As rumored, Apple today announced a new 10.5-inch version of its iPad Pro. It features a larger display, in a body that’s essentially the same size of the 9.7-inch iPad. You can see in the above image that this is possible thanks to slimmer bezels—Apple says they’ve been reduced by 40% in size.

The tablet weighs 1 pound and is extremely powerful. It features a new ProMotion Retina display that can refresh at a rate of 120Hz. That’s double the refresh rate of previous iPads, making things smoother, crisper and more responsive. This is powered by an A10X Fusion chip processor, which has a 6-core CPU and 12-core GPU.

Other features include a 12MP iSight camera with optical image stabilization (same as iPhone 7) and a 7MP FaceTime camera. It has the same 10-hour battery life, supports USB3 fast-charging, and entry-level storage now starts at 64GB. The new iPad Pro starts shipping next week, with prices starting at $649.

Here’s a note from Apple’s press release on the new tablets:

“These are by far the most powerful iPads we’ve ever created with the world’s most advanced displays featuring ProMotion, the powerful new A10X Fusion chip and the advanced camera system of iPhone 7,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing. “Together with iOS 11 these new iPad Pro models will radically change what users can do with iPad.”

One last thing: a new full-sized Smart Keyboard has been custom designed for the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, offering a thin yet durable keyboard that never needs to be charged or paired over Bluetooth and is easily foldable into a protective Smart Cover.

What do you think of the new iPad Pro? Will you be picking one up?

I made a post months ago after I bought the USB C adapter and said my iPhone 7+ and my iPad Pro charges significantly faster and it’s confirmed they have fast charging on the new devices. I already agree they have fast charging right now. After seeing these prices I believe they will do the same with the iPhone 8. iPad OS is definitely getting better.

iPad OS = iOS on iPad

      • Rowan09

Obviously that’s not the case anymore as we are seeing with IOS 11.

      • ClaudieX X

If you can activate the same functions on the iPhone with a jailbreak, it means that is the same OS activating and desactivating functions depending on the device detected.

      • Rowan09

I’m aware just speaking on the differences now with IOS 11.

  • HamptonWalley

Is the bigger Ipad also has the new A10X Fusion processor?

    • Rowan09

      Yes.

    • Sharkey311

Specs are all the same for the 10.5 and 12.9. Only difference is the screen size and the bezel size now.

Tim Cook – Take MY Money !! Yes I will be picking up a 10.5 with a pencil and keyboard.

  • bllackghost

why on earth it doesn’t support 3D touch?

    • Sharkey311

That is a gigantic sheet of glass to support 3D touch. Its not gonna happen on iPad I am afraid.

  • HamptonWalley

Where is the new Macbook Air? Brodwell CPU not quite actual any more…

  • Jay Dee

No prices for the cellular models?

    • Blip dude

add $130 for the LTE models.

  • Did anyone else catch that offhand comment about the iPad Pro having 4x the power of a quad core i7 desktop PC? I’m going to want to see some benchmarks on that… However I’ll admit the speed at which that demo of the Affinity iPad app worked was incredibly impressive.

    • Rowan09

Yeah within that app I believe. The iPad is pretty much making out soon to be its own OS.

      • I know when the original iPad Pro came out Apple bragged it was more powerful that that majority of laptops selling that year. And seeing this, it makes me wonder how much longer it’s going to be before Apple decides to ditch Intel and go back to making their own chips again. The performance on these things is amazing.

      • Rowan09

Yes a play on words for those celeron and M core processors. I would very much like to get my hand on the iPad Pro for sure.

  • BuBubbi

Is it just me, or isn’t there a smart case for the new iPad? Only smart covers for the screen? I want both. :/

    • Sharkey311

Yeah I am really bummed about that too. Not only that they discontinued the OG iPad 12.9 silicon smart case. Your only option now is the sleeve or going 3rd party. Very lame.

  • Sharkey311

Already purchased the 12.9 Inch Black in 256gb. Can’t wait for the 13th!
