As part of announcing iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition in a new vibrant red aluminum finish, Apple this morning said that iPhone SE, its most affordable handset ever, is now available with double the storage at the same starting price of $399 in the United States.

The new 32 and 128-gigabyte capacities have replaced the previous 16GB and 64GB models of iPhone SE which are no longer sold. The new 32/128 GB iPhone SE models will be available beginning Friday, March 24 from apple.com and Apple Stores.

To be perfectly clear, the new 128-gigabyte edition of iPhone SE actually brings the top-tier back to $499 because the 64-gigabyte edition it is replacing was dropped to $449 after iPhone 7 launch.

iPhone SE features a four-inch 1,136-by-640 pixel resolution 326 ppi Retina display and largely identical design to iPhone 5s, but runs iPhone 6s-like hardware in the form of the A9 chip that also powers the new 9.7-inch iPad model, an embedded M9 motion coprocessor, NFC support for Apple Pay, the same twelve-megapixel 1.22µ pixel rear-facing camera as iPhone 6s and more. Unlike iPhone 6s, iPhone SE has a front-facing camera at just 1.2 megapixels that, however, benefits from the improved image signal processor in the A9 chip and supports the software Retina Flash feature.

Reviewers have praised iPhone SE’s compact form factor and long battery life.

As is its wont, Apple will treat every customer who buys iPhone SE or iPhone 7/Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Editio at one of the company’s retail stores to the free Personal Setup service to help them customize their device by setting up email, showing them new apps from App Store and more.

Sorry but that’s not entirely true — they increased the 128gb price

64 started out 499 dropped to 449 with 7/7+ release now its back to 499 for 128

64gb being end of life is probably even better a deal than the 449 it was as people snatch them up.

32 is double the base 16 which was and has remained 399. That is true

I was just about to say that!

When are smartphone manufacturers going to understand that the world moving toward needing less and less storage, not more and more. Data plans are fighting to give as much data and free streaming at the lowest price point, and manufacturers still think they need to max out storage capacities?

    • Chris Mn

You have to consider their entire customer range, from the phone gamers to the photographers (high-res videos, photos, and in my opinion those dumb live photos) to the music connoisseurs. I have 17GB of music just from spotify for offline listening. They need to be offering the phone for less. Storage is by far the fastest growing component in any phone. Technology being able to double the capacity while keeping the size every couple of years.

    • Hunter926

I’d rather have high storage. Than unlimited data. Personally I dislike streaming music. I would much rather listen to my own.

    • James G

I’m pretty sure they get strong demand signals from purchases of higher capacity phones.

    • Stephen Hedger

see how long you would last with a 16gb iphone SE then, you could install a few big games and you would soon be running out of storage and you cant install apps to the cloud can you…

      • SpideyRules

Easy. I don’t use my PHONE for GAMES. Next!

      • Stephen Hedger

WELL you CAN live WITHOUT a HIGH capacity PHONE. Have a MEDAL

      • SpideyRules

Thank you! Now I can be on top of the cake too!

      • Stephen Hedger

        Cake?

      • SpideyRules

        Wreck-it Ralph reference…

      • Stephen Hedger

        Not seen it.

      • SpideyRules

        You poor poor soul…

      • Stephen Hedger

To be honest there’s a lot of films I’ve not seen yet.

    WTF?

    • Timothy

What don’t you understand? Apple offers that service to help people who aren’t that skilled with technology (but it’s obviously not required).

      • Agneev Mukherjee

Myriad of typos’ and incorrect grammar.

      • Timothy

You must not have a very solid grasp on English. There is only one typo (“iPhon”) and it’s perfectly grammatical. Since you seem to be having a hard time with this sentence, I’ll try to help by removing words from it and replacing pronouns, to keep the same structure but simplify the meaning:
“As is Apple’s wont, Apple will give anyone who buys these phones (at one of Apple’s retail stores) Apple’s free Personal Setup service to help the customer set up their new device.”

      • Bill

        “As is its wont”

      • Timothy

It is Apple’s wont. I’m not sure what you’re pointing at… is it that you think “wont” isn’t a word?

      • Bill

        Erroneous apostrophe. LOL

  • burge

The link to the product RED iPhone 7 doesn’t take you to the correct page.

  • 919263

NO Innovation… No New Technology…just storage…? That sucks… I would(and I am sure a lot of others) would jump to the SE, for the form factor if it had 3DTouch…. better camera, faster chip, … So apple has done it again… Old crap, new wrapper…

    • Stephen Hedger

i have an SE and iphone7. The SE is as fast as a phone needs to be, the iphone 7 camera is slightly better in low light. What on earth are you expecting from apple at 499?

      • 919263

For 499, there is better, more updated, Really really “Water Proof” devices available out there. And on the subject of SE and i7, there are a lot of features that are not on the SE… For example, on SE, in iMessages, you cannot see the image icon for the contacts… and this is just the tip of the differences… Check it out.

      • Stephen Hedger

Yeah but the whole point of the SE is it’s a cheap powerful 4″ pocket friendly phone.

Fast flagship Android phones are 5″ plus, small android phones are shite.

Apple never intended to make an iPhone 7 mini

      • 919263

Agree, but the point is that Apple is still trying to milk the i5 form factor without actually making it a good contender. It is like when a guy wants to breakup with a woman… but wants to hang around…

      • Stephen Hedger

True but it’s much harder getting top end kit into a tiny space plus if it was a contender the price would go up.

It’s just a cheap small phone to please a gap in the market.

I would love to see a “proper” small phone as like you say, it’s a recycled 5 year old device with new innards.

Now thats a great move apple!
