It’s the weekend again, and you know what that means! It’s time for another edition of our Apps of the Week roundup. This week’s episode features some great apps including one that helps you with your homework and one that allows you to stream audio to your iPhone from a nearby muted television. And as always, we’ve selected two awesome new games for you to check out.
Socratic
This isn’t a new app, but it’s definitely worth pointing to for folks who haven’t used it yet. Socratic is a homework helper that works like this: you take a photo of a question, it uses AI to search through various resources, and it returns explanations, videos and step-by-step help. The app supports Math, Science, History, Economy and other subjects, and it’s completely free with no in-app purchases. Socratic is available in the App Store for free.
Tunity
This is another great app I just recently stumbled across. Tunity allows you to hear any muted, live TV’s audio directly on your mobile device. All you have to do is launch the app, give it Location access, and capture a quick scan of the TV you want to get audio from. The app recognizes the video/image, finds the corresponding audio and streams it to your phone. I actually tried it at the bar last night on an NBA game, and it’s impressive to see in action. Tunity is available in the App Store for free.
YEAY
Tired of boring old online marketplaces like eBay and Craigslist? Meet YEAY. It’s a new global marketplace that uses video to sell products, making it more fun and easier than ever to discover and shop trends from around the world. YEAY mixes videos of fashion, accessories, jewelry and tech, making products brighter and more personal. Get inspired by the featured picks or choose a category and discover new things on your own. Shoot a short video showcasing your product, upload it, and share it. It’s that easy! YEAY is available in the App Store for free.
Super Gridland
Match. Build. Survive. Super Gridland is a unique and challenging match-3 survival RPG in which players must match tiles to collect resources to build their town. Collect as much as you can while the daylight lasts, because when night falls, bloodthirsty monsters will descend upon your village. There are no in-app purchases or ads. Super Gridland is available in the App Store for $1.99.
Sky Dancer
In Sky Dancer you join in on the dangerous free-running game known as Sky Dancing, in which you push yourself to the limit running and jumping throughout a beautiful landscape. The graphics feature a sharp, minimalist 3D art style and the gameplay is super simple: tap 2 fingers to jump, tap to the left to turn left and right to turn right—pretty standard affair for this genre. The whole thing feels like a modern, minimalist version of Temple Run. Sky Dancer is available in the App Store for free (some IAPs).
