Adding emojis sure is the best way to spice up your Instagram profile, comments, and photo descriptions, but what if you want to go back to simpler things, like adding line breaks?

Although Instagram doesn’t make it obvious, you can type text and hit Enter to go to the next line. You just have to know how to do it. In this post, I will show you a very basic trick that will let you insert line breaks inside the Instagram app, for both your photo captions and your bio.

How to add a line break in a photo caption

While typing the caption of a photo you’re about to post on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed that there is no Return key for you to insert a line break and go to the next line. Well, the Return key is available to you, but it’s not quite in your face as you might expect.

In order to reveal the Return key, you will first have to tap on the 123 key in the lower left corner of the keyboard. Doing so will bring up the number keys as well as other options, but more importantly, it will bring up the Return key.

As you’d expect, tapping this key will add a line break in your post, leaving you a little leeway to format your photo description.

Note that despite this workaround, Instagram won’t let you insert two break lines in a row.

How to add a line break in your Instagram bio

Unfortunately, the tip described above for your photo captions doesn’t work for your profile description. Instead, if you want to insert a line break in your Instagram profile bio, you will first have to type that bio (line breaks included) in any text editor (I use the Notes app), and then copy/paste that text into your Instagram bio.

By copy/pasting the text, your line breaks will be preserved and will be visible to anyone visiting your profile.

Not a life changing tip here, but definitely one that can help make your Instagram photo descriptions and bio stand out a little bit.
