Happy holidays everyone! It’s been kind of a slow week in terms of news and app releases, but don’t worry, we were still able to put together a solid list of apps and games for you to check out this weekend. The roundup includes an app that uses AI to pick out your best photos, a new todo list app with a fun twist, and a messaging client that lets you decide when your messages can be opened.
Tired of taking bad photos? You may want to check out Picky. The app uses a highly-intelligent algorithm that scans your photos, selects the best ones, and automatically enhances every detail, from color and light adjustment, to skin correction and toning. You can then share them as individual pictures, or combine them into a dynamic collage. Simply launch the app, create a new Pick, select the events, and Picky does the rest. This app is available for free.
If you find yourself looking for a new checklist app to help you accomplish your New Year’s resolutions, give Dashpop a shot. This app adds a little character to the typical boring todo list with features like balloon popping, motivational statistics, and the ability to collaborate on task lists with others via iMessage. This isn’t nearly as feature-packed as some of the more popular productivity apps, but if you’re just looking for a GTD (getting things done) app, with a fun twist, here you go. Dashpop is available for free.
Here’s an interesting app. Timebomb lets you send secret messages that can only be opened at the right moment. Whether it’s a photo, video, GIF or text, Timebomb lets you decide when your message will blow up. You can set a specific date and time, location (drop a message on the map for your friends to find), or make it random. Plus you can broadcast your Timebombs, and chat before and after they’re opened. It’s not going to be for everyone, but like I said, it’s an interesting idea. Timebomb is available for free.
Looking for a new game to play this weekend—or at least a new game on iOS? Check out Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked. If you’re not familiar with the hit title, you must help Wilson survive after he finds himself stranded in a tropical archipelago. Don’t let the tropical breeze lull you into a false sense of security —you will quickly find these islands are full to the brim with things that want to kill you. Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked is available for $5.
Want something more action-packed or intense? Check out War Commander: Rogue Assault. It’s an immersive military strategy game set in a massive multiplayer online world, and it delivers a stunning, fully 3D battlefield experience. You’ll be able to adapt quickly with direct control of your units during battle, and engage in epic single player campaigns. It’s a free-to-play title, so you’re going to have to deal with some IAPs, but early reviews have been very favorable. War Commander: Rogue Assault is available for free.
