Alleged specifications of Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus refresh were leaked this morning on the Chinese social network Weibo by an unknown source. The document appears to detail several technical aspects of the forthcoming devices, including display resolutions, next-generation cameras, chips, batteries and other features.

According to the leak, the handsets will predictably run Apple’s in-house designed ‘A10’ system-on-a-chip that has an embedded next-generation ‘M10’ motion coprocessor. Unfortunately, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will reportedly retain the same screen resolution of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus series.

The 4.7-inch iPhone 7 model is said to come outfitted with two gigabytes of LPDDR4 RAM like the current iPhone 6 series, while RAM on the bigger 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus device is said to be three gigabytes of LPDDR4 due to increased image processing requirements by a dual-lens camera system.

iPhone 7 specs weibo

As for the battery, the iPhone 7 is said to have a 1,960 mAh battery while its 5.5-inch brethren should come with a 2,910 mAh battery, representing a slight increase for both models over the iPhone 6 series.

Next, the 4.7-incher is said to have a twelve-megapixel camera with a 1/2.6″ sensor versus the twelve-megapixel 1/3″ sensor on the iPhone 6s). Camera aperture on the iPhone 7 is reportedly ƒ/1.9 (versus 2.2 on the iPhone 6s) and the sensor apparently has 1.3 µm pixels.

The flagship iPhone 7 Plus model will have two twelve-megapixel shooters out the back, each outfitted with a 1/3″ sensor and a ƒ/1.9 aperture. The leaked specs do not give specifications for pixel size on the dual-lens module.

  • Basically, minor improvements.

  • Chindavon

This confirms, I’m waiting for the 8.

    • Virus

Which model do you have now? I’ve probably going to wait for the 8 aswell

      • Chindavon

6S Plus. The dual camera is enticing, but pretty much the same after that. I upgrade every year, but this time I’ll skip.

      • Same, passing on this device. “8” should be a worthy upgrade.. the new screen is what I really want.

      • Chindavon

For real. I want AMOLED on iPhone so bad. Very envious of the Note 7 screen.

      • Me too, it’s an unreal screen to look at. I played with the Note 7 for almost an hour at the store the other day. I’m very much committed to Apple’s products but that screen is just so amazing!

      • Rowan09

The same as the S6 and S7. What’s new?

      • Abhijeet Gupta

Better than S7 !! Same resolution but better and has a dedicated chip for HDR videos

      • Rowan09

HDR videos doesn’t do anything for the screen resolution.

      • Abhijeet Gupta

Hold a note 7 side by side with S7 and you’ll be able to see the difference

      • Rowan09

Tell me difference I’ll go look at it tomorrow? I own the S7 and you get use to the screen. The pixel density is even less on the Note 7 so the S7 Edge screen is sharper.

      • Mike

The screen is going to stay the same since it’s one of the best if not the best display out right now. So obviously there’s going to be minimum to no upgrades on the screen department. On the other hand iPhone has an 720p/1080p ips display which is old and that needs to be replaced since there’s better upgrades that are out at the time.

      • Rowan09

This wasn’t about the iPhone and while I like OLED screens for battery life they are not as bright and over saturated. Regardless Apple should make the screen sharper, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be a 2K screen because they have 4K screens on mobile phones and that’s too much. 1080 is more than enough right now.

      • Abhijeet Gupta

Note 7′ s screen is dope AF

      • 5723alex .

No need for AMOLED with its over-hyped-saturated horrible screens. Look at the LG G5 with its IPS LCD screen.

      • Chindavon

Naw. I’ve played around with the Note 7 and the screen is insanely good. It’s not over-hyped, it really is that good.

      • Abhijeet Gupta

        Ditto, I’ve a 6s and I’ll skip this year

      • David Gow

Ip6+ I am also going to wait till next year

    • Mike Colacone Saal

if you’re doing the monthly installments on your phone there really isn’t a reason to wait though. most of those installments allow you to trade up and just get the new one.

      • Chindavon

True, I forget about that. Will have to see what potential hidden extra cost there may be with the trade in/upgrade.

      • TwinSon

The BAD thing about Installments is the constantly diminishing returns you’re faced with if you do decide to trade up. My 6S Plus is almost paid off and I’m debating whether I should trade it in and lose my investment or just keep it as a backup phone.

      • Chindavon

If you’re close to paying it off, then I would definitely skip this gen. Once paid off, you’ll save about $30+/mo on your bill. Wish I was at that point.

      • TwinSon

Ya, that’s where I’m at. This will be the first iPhone I’ve skipped if I decide to forego this release. I just keep telling myself if they don’t have a Space Black iPhone I’ll hold off but we’ll find out in a week.

      • Chindavon

Hoping for a BIG surprise, separate from all the leaks.

      • Mike Colacone Saal

I work for best buy mobile. There isn’t a fee, you just trade in, they wipe what you owe, and you pay the taxes for the new device.

    • codemaxta

Keep waiting another 2 years then!

      • Chindavon

Uh okay. What year are you from right now? lol

      • rockdude094

        I’m on a 5s.. and I’m gonna wait lol

    • Same here, iPhone 6 user.

    • mrgerbik

I always go for the S models… the ‘tock’ model is usually more refined

    • (JailbreakQA) King Shoot

These are rumors. Wait until the iPhone is actually released and then make your choice

      • Chindavon

Ya, I know. The last 3-4 iPhone models rumors and leaks have been spot on. I don’t see this one being any different.

      • (JailbreakQA) King Shoot

Still, it is a rumor until Apple discloses the information. Theoretically, if everyone on the planet already had the unreleased iPhone somehow, it still wouldn’t be the new iPhone until Apple says it is.

  • Leonard Wong

    IPx7 water resistant

  • gXn

    Sad

  • n0ahcruz3

Meh, lol iPhone screen resolution is soo outdated.

    • Chindavon

Yes. The incremental upgrades need to stop.

      • n0ahcruz3

Lol that’s why their hardware sales decline and iPhone sales tanked for the first time. Their uprgade is so minuscule and pathetic my gosh it’s 2016 they’ve been using the same screen resolution since 2010. I hope hardware sales decline even more that way apple will get there shit together. Been an iphone user and probably always will be but dang get our money’s worth.

      • Chindavon

As an iOS user it’s very frustrating.

      • Rowan09

Screen resolution means decline in sales. Man that’s the funniest thing I’ve hear from my favorite person on this blog. You do know the iPhone 6+ down scales to 1080 and can handle 2k right? Open up Kodi and see what screen resolution it shows you.

      • n0ahcruz3

Lol your argument is pathetic. And your fanboyism is strong.

      • Rowan09

Same reason Samsung declined with the S5 and the S6 and the same reason you’ll see them decline as well for the S8 if they keep the same design. It’s no surprise, it’s impossible for the iPhone to keep the same iPhone 6 design on the 6s and expect the same sales. The iPhone 6 was a drastic change for every iPhone hence the huge sales. The iPhone 8 will be another big hit because of the drastic shift but it is only temporary. Why isn’t LG, HTC, Nexus, etc selling like hotcakes? Sony had a 4K screen on the Z5 Premium in 2015 so wouldn’t that mean now the 2K screen on the S6/S7 is outdated? Come on man use some sense instead of making crazy claims.

      • n0ahcruz3

Lol crazy claims? My gos why u so butthurt whenever i take a jab at your precious company!

      • Rowan09

My company? I don’t own any shares in Apple right now so it’s not my company. I prefer my iPhone over my S7 Edge, but it doesn’t make it my company. So people were bored with the S6 from the S5 which was a failure too with that logic? Please tell me the S7 sales numbers, not shipped but sales figures? Guess what you won’t find it because Samsung stopped giving sales figures to hide a decline after the S5 I believe. The iPhone made a huge profit, a decline in the quarter just meant they didn’t sell as much (which anyone could have predicted) as the biggest jump in iPhone history with the iPhone 6. Please get back to me with sales on the iPhone 8.

      • n0ahcruz3

Everyone knows 6+/6s+ has 1080p resolution lol

      • Rowan09

Yes and point? The Z5 Premium had 4K and 801 ppi and look at reviews of the screen. They couldn’t tell the difference between the 6 plus and S6.

      • n0ahcruz3

My point is fanboy iPhone 7 will use the same outdated screen since 2010. To think iPhones has outdated screen it’s battery life sucks pathetic. Lol

      • Rowan09

As I stated to you I own a S7 Edge as well. What phone do you own along with your iPhone? 720 and 1080 is outdated since 2010? Lol good joke man because 2K on the S6 just came out last year. Sony made a 4K phone at the same time in 2015 of November so I asked without an answer is 2k now outdated as well?

      • (JailbreakQA) King Shoot

I’ve never seen a problem with the resolution. Both my A4 devices and iPhone 5S look great. Not to mention I can upscale the iPhone to the 6S resolution. It plays 720p and loks great. The 6S and 6S+ are even better, handling full HD without a problem. Good enough for me.

  • T_Will

    Comments today: Meh.
Comments after announcement: ZOMGWTFBBQ I NEED THE NEW IPHONE 7!!1

    😉

(I’ll probably get one just for the slight increase in battery size over the 6s)

    • Jose Rivera

Same. I loved the battery in the iPhone 6 Plus, but the battery in the 6S Plus definitely feels like it doesn’t last as long. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I noticed that the 6 Plus had longer life than the 6S Plus with that slight decrease in capacity.

      • T_Will

I have the 6s, and I’m not sure why, but my battery life has completely gone to pot in the last few months. Apple said the battery tested fine, and that it’s a software issue, but I’m not sure believe them since I always do a clean install when I upgrade to major iOS versions or get a new iPhone.

      • Jose Rivera

Yeah I really doubt that. The fact that they shrunk the battery size in this generation honestly was a horrible idea. They were completely capable of using the same size cell in these phones but chose not to. I know they would’ve been able to, but they chose not to.

  • HamptonWalley

Basically Iphone 7 has better camera than 7 Plus? 1/2.6″ sensor versus the two 1/3″

  • Toon

    no reason to upgrade

  • Fevostone

This means the iPhone 6 Plus and s plus will have a better screen than the iPhone 7 and battery for that matter..! What a joke Apple are becoming. If it wasn’t for the iOS I would be well gone..!!!

  • Toon

    really poor update..

  • Favna

5S to 7Plus? Heck yes. I can totally use this upgrade.

  • teris

Its better for Apple to fix ios to be lighter than to announce new iphones every year. Its a shame to have a beautiful iphone 6 and so slow in every move you make.

    • Rowan09

My brother has a 6 Plus and it’s perfectly fine and jailbroken and my brother-in-law has the iPhone 6 and it’s perfectly fine.

      • teris

I know its fine , i am talking about speed , remember ios 6 speed ?
Even iphone 4 with ios 6 was faster than ios 9.

      • (JailbreakQA) King Shoot

The iPhone 4 on iOS 6 is definitely not faster than a 6S on 9.3.5 lol. The iPhone 4 is hella slow on 6 compared to 5.

Hell, the iPhone 5 on iOS 6 is not faster.
iOS 9 is lightweight enough. Compared to other OS’, it allows dual-core devices with 1GB of RAM to run better than octa-core devices running Android. I’d say that’s lightweight enough.

  • i have the 6 plus but i will wait for the 8 as well

    • tunutsaigon

We are on the same boat! No reason to upgrade while my 6 Plus is still good enough for daily use…

  • Corey Hawkins II

I am very impressed by the AMOLED screens of Samsung devices but I would never buy a Samsung phone. My only reason is because part cost to fix the screen, if it breaks, is $300+ I would enjoy an Apple device with an AMOLED comparison screen but I wouldn’t, due to the cost of repair.
