Pangu confirms no jailbreak coming for 32-bit devices on iOS 9.3.3

By , Jul 31, 2016

Pangu App Jailbreak

Pangu launched the first iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak this past week, and it took everyone by surprise. The jailbreak currently supports all 64-bit iOS 9.3.3 devices, and while that’s great, people with 32-bit devices are left in the dark.

Pangu has confirmed this weekend with its new official Reddit account that 32-bit support for the iOS 9.3.3 probably isn’t going to see the light of day.

The confirmation was made in a Reddit thread on Sunday following Pangu making an official Reddit account to answer some frequently asked questions and to clear up some confusion regarding the honesty of the jailbreak.

“Sorry there is no plan for 32bit now,” the Pangu jailbreak team replied.

Pangu iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak no 32 bit

64-bit vs 32-bit

Apple’s mobile devices use a system on a chip (SoC) architecture that has shifted away from 32-bit and towards 64-bit starting with the iPhone 5s. All devices iPhone 5c and prior are 32-bit.

The iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak supports all of the following 64-bit devices:

  • iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE
  • iPod touch 6G
  • iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro

The following devices are 32-bit, and are not supported:

  • iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c
  • iPod touch 5G
  • iPad mini, iPad 2, iPad 3rd gen, iPad 4th gen

No 32-bit love

As there are fewer 32-bit iOS devices on the market today than 64-bit devices, 32-bit devices are becoming somewhat of legacy devices in the technology world. They’re getting old and slow, and development teams are getting sick of having to support them when most people are moving forward. The future is clearly 64-bit, and that’s where jailbreaks are headed too.

Saurik mentioned on Reddit recently that the reason Pangu probably didn’t include 32-bit support for Pangu for iOS 9.3.3 is because it would have required double the work that they’ve already put into this jailbreak. Pangu hasn’t yet officially commented on why they will not be making a jailbreak for 32-bit devices on iOS 9.3.3, so this is all speculation.

With all of the confusion and work that has been put into the jailbreak already, it seems to make sense that doing all of this over again for a very small portion of iOS device users wouldn’t be worth Pangu’s time. This is especially so when you take the time to consider that Apple is fighting back by revoking certificates necessary for the jailbreak to work.

What should you do?

If you own any of the 32-bit devices listed and they’re still jailbroken on iOS 9.0.2, we recommend just staying put. Enjoy your jailbreak. It doesn’t look like a jailbreak for iOS 9.3.3 will be coming for you any time soon, and iOS 10 is already on its way to public release this Fall.

If you’re on iOS 9.3.3 on your 32-bit device already, just be patient for iOS 10, which will have plenty of new features for iOS. After all, Pangu is working on a jailbreak for iOS 10 too, and who knows, maybe that jailbreak will support 32-bit devices? Unlikely… but possible.

Wrapping up

As there will be no jailbreak for 32-bit devices running iOS 9.3.3, those with 64-bit devices can follow out tutorial on how to jailbreak with the English Pangu jailbreak tool. We’ve also got a detailed postings, listed below, that will help those who are thinking about jailbreaking iOS 9.3.3, or have already:

I have an iPhone 5 running 9.0.2 but it has become sluggish. Is there a way to revert back to factory and re-JB? Keeping it on 9.0.2?

    • No, unfortunately not. Cydia Eraser would be the only way to do this, but it doesn’t support iOS 9.0.2.

    • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

      Time to upgrade.

    • aw81

You could try installing icleaner, worth a try at least if you’ve not got it already.

    • Tum

You can use SemiRestore 9 to erase all data in iPhone 5 and remaining in 9.0.2 with jailbreaked status.

      • Jaleon

Going to try this when I get home, thanks!

    • lobusko

I did it on my Ipad Air ios 9.0.2 and used semi restore 9.

    • DingDingUrWrong

      Try cydia impactor

    • Jay B (Dr Opsapoop)

Cydia Impactor works well and it will completely restore your phone without updating and it completely un-jailbreaks is too. I’ve used it three times on three different devices without any problems. Look it up in Cydia, it’s free.

      • Jaleon

mmmm I can’t find it, I saw cydia eraser but not impactor. Tried eraser but it wouldn’t run.
Going to try semi-restore later today if I can’t find impactor. Thanks!

      • Jay B (Dr Opsapoop)

Sorry for the late response, I just noticed your reply. Cydia Eraser is Cydia Impactor, I just found out that it has been updated to work with iso 9 devices and they also decided to change the name. You are on 9.0.2 and it is proven to work on devices up to 9.0, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t work for your device. The first thing you should try to make it work is to install “Apple File Conduit 2”. You may have “AFC2” which is pretty much the same thing but I have had trouble with the “AFC2” version and when I installed the “Apple File Conduit 2” version instead my problem seemed to stop. If that doesn’t make it work for you then there is a Windows version of Cydia Impactor, but I have never used it so I’m not too sure on how to un-Jailbreak your device with it. Good luck, I hope you figure it out.

  • Damian Makary

I found a fix if your cydia crash after reboot! You just need to go to jailbreak app on your iPhone and then click on the circle. Then go to your home screen and go back to your jailbreak app. Do this few times until you see the circle (i think the jb app is just restarting after few times of clicking) and just click on te circle. Lock your screen and you will see a notification. I hope i helped you! Sorry for my bad english haha!

      • Jason

Anthony, its been a long while since you left modmyi. Hope you’re doing well. I have a question to ask. I recently jailbroke the iPhone 6 Plus with the Chinese version I do have a enterprise Which hopefully I’m good for a year. If I were to restore and try the cydia impactor? Would that be the same for a year than 7 days? Or should I stick where I’m at now? Secondly I read around they were telling people to remove the PP app that is already installed which I already did. So I had to test the reboot. I must say its a one pain in the butt to do rejailbreak without the computer with the Chinese version. I was thinking it would be more easier using the cydia impactor. Hope this answer your question. Hope all is well Antony.

      • The Cydia Impactor version is much easier to use in my opinion. It is still possible to get the Beijing enterprise developer certificate with the English Pangu jailbreak. We have a tutorial on that here:

      • Jason

Anthony, Thank you for the useful tip!!!

      • Damian Makary

No, you don’t understand. Your guide doesn’t work for me. Read my fix one more time.

        Hey buddy plz help

  • Venura Edirisinghe

    Go to hell pangu

    • Roland G

Really? Have you contributed anything at all to any of the hard work these guys did? Just get a new phone man it’s $99 at Walmart

      • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

$99? you’re talking about android, right?

      • Roland G

        iPhone 6 16gb

      • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

I don’t know where you’re getting $99 bucks from for a 6 (unless its the anniversary event) but I’m looking at 400+ /w contract.

      • Roland G

You’re obviously a smart one. You can get a 6 for $400 no contract Apple factory refurbished. You can walk out of the store with a 6s $0 down $22 a month if $99 is too much scratch gangster. Anyhow you’re missing the point. Blaming the actual contributors to jailbreak for his shitty life and phone is just wrong.

      • Joshua The-Legend Wiebe

        Wow, rude much?

      • Roland G

        Not at all just honest.

      • Enrique Ja-El

        fuk u n pangu

      • Hongo Takeshi

        A new/used iphone 5s also is not a bad choice…

    • besrate hogsa

I think jailbreak is becoming irrelevant,as apple vigorously updates it’s mobile device software packed with so many new features

    • M_Hawke

      Awwww…poor baby.

  • leart

    can i jailbreak those ?

    • racerhomie2

      • leart

        ios 1.1 and 9.3.3?

      • Andres Torres

      • leart

dont think that is possible to jaibreak ios 1.1 those days anymore

      • amarioguy

It very much is. PwnageTool or ZiPhone anyone?

      • leart

not sure they are working anymore due to huge changes after all those times.. itunes has changed, servers.. even those apps doubt that will still open on modern windows. tried last night and had partial success only on ios 2. for 3.1.3 everything is easy. redsn0w or spirit or jailbreakme

      • amarioguy

        Maybe iBrickr?

      • leart

didn’t tried that… now already update it to 3.1.2 and jaibkreaked it with a older version of redsn0w. the latest one didn’t worked ..
the next time I will try that..

      • leart

jailbreaking those old firmwares it’s complicated .. I had to use old debs since latest tweaks are broken on older iOS..
I had to use old activator and its old dependencies and didn’t updated cydia past to 1.8xx

  • Mecatrônicos Salê

I’m very, very, disappointed…. But I still have hope :'(

    • Giselle Elizabeth

me too ! i just updated my ios 7 to ios 9.3.3 and i’m so sad and mad they’re not going to make the jailbreak…… but keep faith and crossing our fingers !!

  • Pedro Remedios

Goddamn! A new iPhone in Portugal costs 700 euros minimum! Where am I going to get 700 euros from a job that pays 600? Prick!

    • HamptonWalley

600 euros, you cool man! I get only 500 in Hungary with two dipl. I have to keep my 4S…

      • Archer

        same lol

  • HamptonWalley

Now i wish IOS 8.4.1 was the highest IOS for iPhone 4S

  • Rondog

Any chance on an untethered jailbreak without certificates, so we can breathe a little easier?

    • No I don’t think so. I’m sure they’re going to be full-steam ahead for iOS 10 now.

  • rockdude094

Rip iPhone 5 and 4s. They shall never be forgotten and their soul lives on in the 5se

    • :|Alain|:

      correction iPhone SE*

      • tariq

I use to say 5SE until I read about it a couple weeks later and realized its just SE lol

  • Tawfeek AL Shawi

We waited too long time for jailbreak, and when he became available have made it unable to support our 32-bit devices.

  • Tawfeek AL Shawi

Please make jailbreak for 32-bit devices,it’s not fair that you put jailbreak to new devices 64-bit and devices that have the same version but 32-bit there is no jailbreak, which means that you do not have the ability to support us!

    • M_Hawke

I don’t get the “fair” part of this…It’s not fair that we have to jailbreak to get the missing features that we want, it’s not fair that some of us can’t afford a 64 bit phone, it’s not fair that some of us cannot even afford a phone, it’s not fair that we have to “put up” with Apple Corp’s rules, it’s not fair, it’s not fair. I just hear a lot of whining. That’s life. Being able to jailbreak is not a right. If you think it is “unfair,” then I suggest you learn about iOS and create your own 32 bit jb on your own, without pay (like the Pangu team) and release it. There will be more than a few 32 bit owners who will appreciate you. Don’t get me wrong–I think it is a bummer for you that you don’t get your jb and I don’t mind you expressing your disappointment, I’m just not tolerant of the “it’s not fair” mentality along with it’s close relative, the entitlement mentality.

      • Tawfeek AL Shawi

Yes it’s not fair that 64-bit devices have jb and our devices 32-bit do not have jb.

      • M_Hawke

Poor guy. It’s not fair that I have Touch ID and you don’t. It’s not fair that my friend can stream 4k on his TV and I’m just stuck on 1080p. Wah.

      • Y2J

There’s a reason they didn’t make one for 32-bit. Stop whining and get a new phone. My iPad 3 is 32-bit and you don’t see complaining about “fair” and writing 15 comments on one article.

      • Y2J

All the whining is honestly ridiculous and you said it perfectly about the “not fair” and entitlement mentalities.

  • Tawfeek AL Shawi

Please!please!please!please! Make jailbreak for 32-bit devices.

  • Tawfeek AL Shawi

Why do that? Please make jailbreak for 32-bit devices…..

  • Josiah

The sad part is that some of the 32 bit devices can’t move up to iOS 10. So now those devices are stuck in 9.3.3 and don’t get any cool features. At least a semi-tethered JB for the iOS devices that can’t move up would be good. One that didn’t require a new Apple ID every week.

  • Lit

I don’t think its unreasonable for them to support 32-bit at all. I mean, those devices are over 3 years old… you’re better off getting a new phone than an old one with a jailbreak.

    • Arjan Vlek

Well I don’t think its 3 years ago the last iPhone 5 and 5c sold. Is this really a valid reason??

      • Lit

Technology advances quickly. The fact that 32 bit is old tech, I would say it’s definitely a valid reason. Ask yourself this, if you were a hacker/developer, would you put more work in something that will be obsolete it? It’s just not worth it for them.

  • Bugs Bunnay

They should confirm that their 7.1.2 jailbreak is dead.

  • Ayiees 07

  • Gabriel Anaya

  • Diego Milano

Truth about this is those who still own a 32-bit device should start considering moving to a newer phone; the way I see this, the jailbreak developers will not spend any more time coding a jailbreak for 32-bit devices based on what we’ve seen so far, sadly that includes iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c.

  • Steve Harold

Wow. Bunch of people mad it don’t support ancient devices.

  • Y2J

Kind of off topic but is there a way to stream from the moviebox app to chromecast?

  • topboy58

Coding 32bit is far easyer than coding 64bit apps to me its crazy pangu went down this root , tonnes of iphone4s and iphone5/5c users could have donated money as i did and im an iphone5 user pangu pretty much shot them selfs in the foot there really didnt they! There is still a huge 32bit user base out there probs as big or if not bigger than the 64bit user base why slash the 32bit jb stupid

    • M_Hawke

Then do it yourself. Figure it out and create the jb yourself. So tired of you entitlement mentality people whining about this. Where’s the law that says Pangu has to even create a jb, 64 or 32 bit? Where’s the law that says it’s your right to have it? Pangu chose to create the jb for 64 bit and that’s that. You say it is easier to code for 32 bit than 64. OK…put your money where your mouth is instead of your whining.

  • Claritywindow

I too would like to see the 32-bit jailbreak for iOS 9.3.3 for devices not available for iOS 10 upgrade. Thank you Pangu for your hard work! I mistakenly upgraded my iPad 3 to 9.3.3 not seeing that it was 64-bit processors only. It is the last firmware to be upgradable for me.

Time to move on from apple to android… It was good using it for 4 years but now my ipad 2 is getting slower and slower and without jailbreak its not worth using it anymore… Good bye apple

  • MinaTTi

These blogs trying to convince you to jailbrake your phone are written for the same people trying to infect your phone and grab all your data.

Why would someone jailbrake an iPhone? It’s a very stupid thing to do. And this is the only way you can get viruses on your phone.
Pangu, Cydia… forget all about it and trust only Apple!

  • phill dagit

Unless there is a really good reason, like completely unexploitable or unless “because it would have required double the work that they’ve already put into this jailbreak” means another year , there is no reason they shouldn’t release a 32 bit. If they are not doing it, because “32-bit devices are becoming somewhat of legacy devices in the technology world. They’re getting old and slow, and development teams are getting sick of having to support them when most people are moving forward” then they are pathetic, lazy, and amateurs and anyone with a 32 bit device has a right to damn them to Hell.

  • Dao Sasone

Apple paid pangu so itl force people with old devices to upgrade if they want to jb.

  • Davis Martin

I’ve been waiting forever for a jailbreak for my 5th Gen iPod Touch, but no. The Apple doofuses forces me to update (scheduling it in the night without my permission) and now I’m on 9.3.3. What a slap to the face, now my iPod runs so slow it isn’t funny on 9.3.3, like did they really think 512MB of RAM was capable of running anything above 7 without an issue? They just want to slow it down so much that you are forced to buy a new one. I will never buy Apple again. Time for Samsung and time for the iPod to be destroyed.

  • unicornslayerl .

Kind of annoyed since I’m on iPod 5th gen but still running iOS 6.1.2 LOL Guess that was my fault for not updating for iOS 7 or 8.

    • Davis Martin

I really wish I had stuck to iOS 6.1.2 tbh, I HATE anything above the iOS 6 series. I wish I was able to use some SHSH blobs to revert but I don’t have any :'(

      • unicornslayerl .

Really? I guess the only thing thats annoying about staying on IOS 6.1.2 is that I can’t get any of the newer games

      • Davis Martin

That’s true. Do you think your SHSH blobs would work on my iPod (I use the 5th gen)?

      • unicornslayerl .

Honestly, I have no clue. Its been so long, I don’t even remember if I saved my SHSH blobs. I can check tho.

      • Davis Martin

I’m sure (if you are currently JBed on 6.1.2) you could back them up. If you are able to send me a message on Kik at “iPod_kb_dm” without parentheses

      • unicornslayerl .

Yea, I could back it up. Not completely free atm so I can get it done later. Though I don’t have Kik lol

      • Davis Martin

Okay, cool. Do you have IG, you could always DM me there 🙂 or even Twitter

      • unicornslayerl .

        email? LOL

      • Davis Martin

Sure! Here is a less used one: Derpy(dash)H(at)live(dot)com

      • unicornslayerl .

thanks 🙂 I’m just thinking, each device is ECID unique so wouldn’t my shsh blobs not work on yours?

      • Davis Martin

I’m not really sure, some guides say you can and some say you can’t. Maybe there is a code somewhere in them and I could change it to match my ECID. Again I’m not sure, but It sure is worth a shot

      • unicornslayerl .

Mkay, might as well try. Ill send them over to ya once I get a chance 🙂

      • Davis Martin

Thanks again! I’ll be on the lookout for your email throughout the day 😉

      • unicornslayerl .

        Sent ya an email 🙂

      • Arjan Vlek

Shsh blobs are device specific and only work on iPod touch 4 and older 🙁

  • DingDingUrWrong

    Try cydia impactor
I believe I saw that would revert firmware to stock

  • Bramton1

Well, that sucks. I have an iPad 2 and I’m stuck on ios 7 and some of my apps are trying to force me to update, but they require ios 8. So my option is to update to ios 9.3.3, use those apps, and lose root forever, or stay where I am, able to use root for some apps while losing the ability to use some apps ever again.

  • Tuckk Tuckk (Tuck)

Being on ios 6.1.2 atm, there’s no way to update my iphone to say ios 8 huh?

  • Serdar Nazar

Ofcourse disappointed. I have, like 100 thousands users have if not millions, 32 bit apple device, exactly i have Iphone 4s.
Im getting place in PETITION to Pangu and Taig teams to ask them make 32 bit JB for ios 9.3.3. We are already ~4000 signs in only one week!!! I INVITE YOU TO JOIN! 😉

  • RCnitroEpic Studio2015 XRC,RCN

So we might be able to jailbreak 32bit devices in ios10??? YESSSS!!!!!!!!

    • Tuckk Tuckk (Tuck)

Not the iPhone 4s but I believe possibly the iPhone 5<

  • Mk Nguyễn Trần

Yah! But what to do if my iOS 9.3.3 32-bit device doesn’t support iOS 10? *heartbroken

  • whatsup1827

iOS 10 won’t be coming to 32-bit devices. Where is this guy getting this info that it will?

  • NejiHyuga900

Guess I will be stuck on iOS 9.0.2 on my iPod Touch (5th generation) forever. 🙁 That is, unless if I get the 6th gen.

  • What’s annoying for me, personally, is that my iPod was fine, jailbroken at 9.0.2 or something, and it suddenly just fatally crashed so I had to reset the damn thing. While I’m glad it was backed up and I didn’t really lose anything, it’s got that ol’ ball and chain back

  • Marcelo Andrades

Uma puta sacanagem dos cara nem. Todo mundo pode ter um 5s

  • Justin

sorry but unfortunately apple says on the apple website that ios 10 will only be for 64bit devices and not 32bit devices 🙁

  • Blankenship

So what are our options if we have a 32bit device that won’t work with ios 10? I’m essentially stuck on 9.0.2. jailbreak because if we updated to 9.3.3 we have no jailbreak, and if we update now we go straight to 9.3.4 with no jailbreak. I’m assuming there’s no way to upgrade just to 9.3.3 on a 32bit device unless you already have. And even then, no one seems to be developing a jb for us. The worst part is that for people who have older devices, like the ipad 2, none of us can install ios10. So we’re stuck with 9.3.4 and NO JB!

  • David Tang

Well there is a saying, if no fish shrimp also good enough. Is there any semi-jailbreak for ipad2 under iOS 9.3.3
