The versatile Infuse media player for the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV by aTV Flash Black developer FireCore today got bumped to version 4.2, bringing dozens of new features, enhancements and refinements to both the iOS and tvOS edition of the software.

Infuse 4.2 now surfaces your content in Spotlight search, lets you sync ratings for rate content on trakt.tv and has new Continuous Playback options.

On the fourth-generation Apple TV, Infuse gained a new Library mode and Smart Filters, an artwork picker for your Favorites and lots of other improvements. Plus, audiophiles will be pleased to learn that Infuse for Apple TV is now capable of reproducing 7.1 content.

Library view in Infuse for Apple TV

Infuse’s new Library view on the Apple TV, seen top of post, is awesome.

For starters, it does make finding videos to watch easier than before. After the app searches deep within your connected folders and devices to catalog every media file it can find, it’ll group them all together in a slick new menu.

The Library view gets more powerful when you consider Smart Filters, another new feature permitting you to browse the library by genre, rating, release date, age rating and watched/unwatched. In fact, Smart Filters make it simple to create custom Favorites that auto-update on Infuse’s home screen.

For example, you could create a Favorite of just kids movies, another one for unwatched TV shows etc.. I’m also happy that adding custom artwork to Favorites is now possible within the Apple TV app.

Trakt ratings sync, Spotlight search integration

Infuse has long supported trakt.tv sync for playback progress and watched history.

Starting with Infuse 4.2, your trakt ratings sync between all your devices while rated items are designated with all-new orange stars that get updated from trakt automatically.

Videos in Infuse are now searchable via iOS’s Spotlight feature on your Home screen.

“Videos selected from within Spotlight will instantly start playing, and Infuse will pick up right where you left off if you happened to already start that video on another device,” explains developer James Abeler.
