Grain Audio PWS.01 is a portable speaker with depth and style

When it comes to portable speakers, a lot of times, convenience trumps sound quality and you end up with a device that you can take anywhere, but doesn’t really provide the best listening experience.

Grain Audio has added MaxxAudio sound processing, created by GRAMMY award-winning Waves Audio, to a walnut speaker shell with two two-inch loudspeakers and a bass isolation system that does not compromise sound quality for portability.

The rectangular speaker is approximately 7 x 2.5 inches and is made from certified walnut with an oil finish. It’s like having a miniature version of those giant Pioneer speakers your parents used to own.

The box has a minimalist aesthetic. There is a Bluetooth pairing button, volume controls, a micro USB charging port, and a 3.5mm jack and that’s all. There is no microphone or additional controls. The company claims it is separating from the rest of the industry with a speaker that has a “simple, elegant, and timeless design.”

The speaker is outfitted with a rechargeable battery that the company claims can last up to eight hours of continuous playback.

Although it supports Bluetooth connection, the 3.5mm jack and included cable allow you to connect any device with a headphone jack.

Grain Audio’s PWS.01 is available on Amazon for $208, where one reviewer considers it to be the second-best portable speaker around, surpassed only by the Bose Mini Bluetooth speaker.
