Phone 6s cydia yellow

As we told you, the Pangu Jailbreak tool for iOS 9 was just released a few minutes ago. We’ve taken the liberty to test it out, and can vouch for its legitimacy as far as jailbreaking the iPhone goes. We tested it out with our iPhone 6s and were able to jailbreak and load Cydia successfully. In this post, we’ll show you how to do the same.

Update: This guide was originally written for iOS 9, iOS 9.0.1, and iOS 9.0.2, but the Pangu Team has recently updated their tool making it possible to also jailbreak iOS 9.1. We suggest you read up about the iOS 9.1 jailbreak limitations first, then make sure you download the latest version of Pangu and follow these instructions to jailbreak your iOS 9.1 device (64-bit device only).

Note: You must be running iOS 9. This tutorial is for Windows-only, since the Pangu tool is a Windows executable. You can run a Windows virtual machine on your Mac if you wish to jailbreak iOS 9 on a Mac. This jailbreak should work for any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch capable of running iOS 9. That includes the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

Step 1: Backup your device and connect it to your computer via USB.

Step 2: Disable Find My iPhone via Settings → iCloud → Find My iPhone.

Step 3: Disable Passcode and Touch ID via Settings → Touch ID & Passcode.

Step 4: Enable Airplane mode via Control Center.

Step 5: Download the Pangu jailbreak tool for iOS 9 from our downloads page and run it.

Step 6: Start the Pangu jailbreak by clicking the Start button and click Already Backup when prompted.

Step 7: Your iPhone will reboot and Pangu will ask you to put your iPhone back into Airplane mode. Once you do this, it will continue the jailbreak.

Step 8: After some time, the Pangu tool will request that you open the Pangu app on the iPhone’s Home screen.

Step 9: Once the Pangu app is run, it will ask to you to allow access to your Photo Library. Tap the accept button on the Pangu screen to continue.

Step 10: Tap the OK button on the “Pangu Would Like to Access Your Photos” pop-up box.

Step 11: Your iPhone will reboot again. Once you reboot, disable Airplane mode, and run the Cydia app.

Congratulations, your iPhone is jailbroken. What jailbreak tweaks will you install first?

If you have trouble, be sure to watch our full video walkthrough posted above. In it, I show you step-by-step how to jailbreak the iPhone 6s using Pangu for iOS 9.

    Something’s not right!

    • azroach

yea man you just need to reboot your computer and your idevice. Also, make sure you log into icloud and then turn off find my iphone. If you don’t log into icloud it won’t work even though find my iphone is not enabled.

if it keeps failing after that, you just have to keep restarting your computer and your idevice until the jailbreak works.

  • Rick Hart

Where’s PP at?? Their app always runs smooth as silk

  • Mac the old and the new

    Hey Jeff,
I have an iPad 3 on iOS 9.0.2 which when reached 90% jailbreak the iPad restarts and the jailbreak ends. Any ideas?

    • azroach

You should make sure that you set up your phone the right way. The
pangu jailbreak application in windows kept restarting at around the end but then I erased all content and data and made sure I logged into icloud. I don’t know if that made the difference, but it did work after I set up the phone as new with my icloud account logged in.

I think the pangu jailbreak windows application will do a final check to
see if find my iphone is off before it finalizes the jailbreak. So if
you’re not logged into icloud, find my iphone is not enabled or
something or it’s not detected as being off by the jailbreak app so you
need to be logged into icloud and have find my iphone turned off for the jailbreak to be finalized and completed successfully.

UPDATE: Nevermind, I just tried jailbreaking with another phone and i did log into icloud and turned off find my iphone and it still restarted itself at the end without successfully jailbreaking the device.

I’m going to try to restart my computer and my idevice and jailbreak again.

UPDATE: It worked the second time after I restarted my computer and idevice. So to be on the safe side, I would log into icloud anyway and then disable find my iphone. Then restart your computer and idevice and jailbreak. Then if it fails just keep restarting computer and idevice and jailbreaking again until it works.

  • azroach

It doesn’t matter if you change the automatic backup settings. Regardless of if the automatic backup setting is “icloud” or “this computer,” when you click “back up now” under “manually back up and restore” it backs up to your computer, not iclouds.

This is why when you restore from the computer backup, it does not remove the jailbreak. If it were possible to restore from icloud backup without setting the phone up from the icloud backup, maybe it wouldn’t remove the jailbreak if you restored from icloud, but that’s not possible since you can only restore from an icloud backup when you set the phone up from an icloud backup, which of course you can’t jailbreak the phone before you set it up…lol

So yes backing up in itunes, then restoring, then jailbreaking, then restoring from itunes does retain the jailbreak and gives you your data and apps back.

  • joe

sounds ike this one has so many issues!

    • azroach

nah it’s not that bad. it works

  • azroach

even though i selected “already backed up” in the pangu windows jailbreak app, it still backs up when i jailbreak. where is it backing up to, and why is it backing up if i already told the pangu windows jailbreak app that i already backed up?

I was trying to use Parallels and never got that to work. I tried VMWare Fusion and that worked fine the first time. Very odd. I then tried it on my daughters iPad Air 2 and got an error but I just tried the one time. I’ll look more into her device later.
