Nomad, makers of beautiful accessories for Apple’s mobile gadgets, today announced a new car charger for the iPhone and other gadgets that offers some novel features normally not found in car chargers.

Billed as “the first battery pack designed for your car,” the Nomad Roadtrip integrates a 3,000 mAh battery and provides both the standard USB port and USB-C for charging the latest devices.

3,000 mAh battery

The Roadtrip packs a 3,000 mAh high-powered external battery. When plugged into your car’s 12V outlet, the Roadtrip uses pass through charging to charge up your iPhone first and then its internal battery.

Because the sleek car charger is so small it slips in your pocket, it can be basically used as an external battery pack for on the go use. The 3,000 mAh battery allows you to fully recharge your iPhone 6 Plus.

“Roadtrip acts like a typical car charger. It charges your devices when the car is on, then press the button, and it engages the battery when you’re away from the car,” notes the firm. It takes roughly two hours to fully charge your Roadtrip, depending on the level of input.

USB + USB C ports

With both the standard USB Type A port and the new USB Type C port (1.5amp per port), Roadtrip supports existing and upcoming gadgets that incorporate USB C. The USB C port is an output only and is unable to charge the Roadtrip.

“Making a product future-proof is extremely important to us, because we want you to use it for months and years to come,” notes Nomad.

For those wondering, the Roadtrip measures just 31mm in diameter, is 118mm tall and weighs in at 220 grams. It also looks aesthetically pleasing: the polycarbonate plastic enclosure is augmented by precision stamped and anodized aluminum accents.

The accessory works with iPhones, Android phones and just about any device that charges with USB and allows for 500 full charging cycles before its battery’s capacity will begin to deteriorate. The Roadtrip does not ship with its own cable for charging.
