If you haven’t upgraded to iOS 8.4, it’s now too late. Apple has closed the iOS 8.4 signing window according to IPSW.me. It’s now impossible to upgrade or downgrade to iOS 8.4. All users are now forced to iOS 8.4.1 or higher upon restore.

Fortunately, it seems as if most people heeded our warnings when it came to getting back on iOS 8.4 before the signing window closed. If you didn’t, and you’re not already on iOS 8.4 or other jailbreakable firmware, you’ll need to wait until an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak is released or an iOS 9 jailbreak is released.

Last night, it was reported that the Pangu team has accomplished an iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak, but the likelihood of it seeing the light of day is slim. Instead, it’s more likely that the Pangu team is holding its cards for the possibility of an iOS 9 jailbreak instead.

If you’re currently on iOS 8.4, be sure to stay there and don’t upgrade to iOS 8.4.1 or later. If you want to restore your device, you can always use Cydia Impactor, a tool that lets you restore iOS and remain on the same firmware.

This really does appear to be the final nail in the coffin for the iOS 8.3/iOS 8.4 era of jailbreaks. Thankfully, there is a spark of hope for the future with Pangu’s recent achievements.

Are you sad to see the signing window for iOS 8.4 closed?

A moment of silence for all those who accidentally upgraded

    • regkilla

It wasn’t their fault. Their dogs made them upgrade.

        I don’t get it

      • Elias Chao

It’s a joke. There are several cases of people saying they accidentally upgraded it their phones, when it is not something that just happen without you being aware of it.

Hey guys would u like to earn more money? upgrade to 8.4.1 today!

I just restored 30 min ago maybe I got lucky or it’s still being signed in certain time zones

    • (JailbreakQA) King Shoot

Time zones don’t matter. The TSS server operates equally whether you’re in London or on Mars. The restore process where it verifies the software probably occured before the signing window was closed, and the software instalation happened after it was closed. Good timing.

has the signing window closed i have just bought another 5s and its on 8.4.1. Got 8.4 downloading now? Am i done for?

      • (JailbreakQA) King Shoot

Yes. You are stuck on 8.4.1.

Let the accidental update issue begin.

  • Blip dude

Not that it matters for the moment: But let’s say I need to swap a device and it came with 8.4.1 installed, and assuming the 8.4 signing window was still open: Would I be able to downgrade new device from 8.4.1 back to 8.4 or would it be stuck there at 8.4.1 because that’s the lowest firmware it came with?? Hope my question makes sense.

    • You would have been able to downgrade if firmware was made for that device and Apple was still signing, yes. But now, since it’s no longer signed, it’s not an option.

I was thinking to do a fresh install on my iPhone 6 on Friday, but I forgot it. Now, I see the signing window is already closed. Thanks to saurik for releasing Cydia Impactor. It works very well. Now, I did my fresh install and I am jailbroken again 🙂

  • Mr_Coldharbour

I would have to say that Cydia Impactor deserves the title “Best Tweak Ever Made.” Without it, we’d have 2 options and none of them are good. If your setup goes bad and thus device no longer usable: (1) Restore and lose jailbreak (if latest jailbreakable firmware not signed anymore). Or (2) Try to deal with it.
With this tweak, one can in fact, as Jeff said, perpetually maintain a jailbreakable device forever. Thank you very very much for this indispensable tweak, Saurik. Thank you indeed!

Cydia Impactor is a more straightforward choice to many. Reasons: (1) It was made by Saurik, the man behind Cydia. That is enough reason to use it. (2) Doesn’t require a computer, everything is done on the device. (3) I refer you back to reason #1, again and again.

Yea im sad because I had no time to upgrade on 8.4. But I’m on 8.1.1 still jailbroken. I can wait till iOS 9 will release and jailbreak is available. 🙂
