Lara Croft GO, an upcoming turn-based mobile strategy game from Hitman GO creators Square Enix, will be hitting the iOS platform on Thursday, August 27. In a media release announcing the release date, Square Enix said the upcoming game offers “a never-before-seen take on the iconic franchise, featuring challenging levels, gorgeous visuals and a mesmerizing soundtrack.”

Created by Square Enix Montréal and Crystal Dynamics, Lara Croft GO takes place in an ancient civilization. The game combines exploration with puzzle solving and employs a turn-based concept which has made the Hitman GO series so popular with fans of strategy games.

Game visuals are top-notch, as the screenshots attest.

Fans of Lara Croft can expect all the usual hallmarks of a Lara Croft game in GO, including Square Enix-confirmed ancient tombs, mysterious locations, long forgotten artifacts and scary creatures, to name a few.

Billed as a celebration of the iconic Lara Croft franchise, Lara Croft GO takes the Hitman GO concept to a whole new level. “Working in close partnership with Crystal Dynamics, we are excited to tap into the nostalgic love we have for the ultimate female adventurer, Lara Croft, and bring you… the Essence of Adventure,” said Patrick Naud, Head of Studio at Square Enix Montréal.

In addition, a Lara Croft GO-inspired contest will showcase fan art during the Lara Croft GO party at PAX Prime in Seattle on August 28, with exclusive prizes for artists.

You can submit your artwork to info@square-enix-montreal.com with the subject line ‘Lara Croft GO Art Contest Submission’ along with your name.

All proceeds from the contest will benefit Child’s Play Charity.
