OS X El Capitan

Apple on Monday released the fifth OS X El Capitan beta to developers. The new build is available to registered developers via the Updates section of the Mac App Store or through Apple’s Developer Center.

Today’s update comes less than a week after Apple pushed out the fourth beta of OS X El Capitan, and nearly two months after its initial release in early June during Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference.

With El Capitan, Apple chose to forgo adding a bunch of new features in favor of performance and stability improvements. There are a few changes, though, such as a revamped Mission Control with Split Screen.

We’re installing today’s beta now, and will report back with any major changes. While the release is for developers only, Apple did rollout a public version of OS X El Capitan this month if you want to check it out.

What about iOS 9 and WatchOS?

    • Tim Liu

No update for iOS9 and WatchOS.

Mac OS X 10.11 beta 4 had tons of problems. Mostly safari freezing up the entire os with as little as 2 tabs open. That’s why beta 5 came out only a week after beta 4 was released (betas usually come out every two weeks).

New iOS 9 beta should come out next week.

Current iOS Beta is making my iPhone 6 extremely slow. I know, it’s a beta… Still, I don’t have to like it, right? 😉

    • Loay Al-wesi

I have installed iOS 9 b4, I didn’t notice the slowness in performance … however, there are random crashes and freezes in few apps (Safari, Photos, homescreen ..etc ..
Does Game Center function well with you ?!? It doesn’t login if I open the app, just a white page ! And if I go to the GameCenter section in Settings, it kind of freezes … could you check ?

      • Gregg

I actually don’t use Game Center.

      • Gregg

OK, just tried it and it opens up just fine.

Hey do you have siri suggestions on beta 4? It’s gone for me, after updating to beta 4… It was working on previous betas…

      • Loay Al-wesi

Siri suggestions as in the page when you swipe left ? no I don’t get that … As per the attached image!
I’m surprised GameCenter works with you … I get a white blank page when I open it as per the image

      • schoeberlt

Well it looks like Apple pulled out these features for some reason… I think it will return in beta 5…

Same here, every app takes forever, and most stock apps crash a couple times before working.

i have downloaded the latest version of ios9 and watch os 2.4, watch os 2.4 is a major improvement with battery life and functionality to previous betas.

I know that betas are not stable or fast, but damn Mavericks is much smoother and faster compared to Yosemite and el capitan in my testing. Even the UI is much more down to earth and appealing.

I just moved back to Mavericks. Seems the best OS so far for me. I really like El Capitans new functions but still.

The split screen is really primitive imo. You can just get better snap tool from the App Store and have classic window splits. Metal is a good addition tho.

  • All the latest betas running smooth for me on all devices; only peeve is that on the watch I have to disable Wrist Detection in order to get email notifications. That removes the bank card. Wish they’d fix this weird bug.

  • Alex

You guys always say you’ll report back with the changes, but you never do

    • Golicza Alpár

That’s what I just thought. rofl

  • Any one else having issues with Beta 5? I been rocksteady up till now….
Now I cant use Outlook on either extra screen, instantly crashes so have to use on main display.
Had other issues with CPU ramping up and fans kicking in when on idle etc etc. Am wondering if the Public Beta 3 has any improvements over the Private Beta 5

I find it ironic that the new OS that supposedly brings about performance improvements has slowed my new MacBook Air considerably. I get beachballs now where I never did before.
