TaiG 8.3 jailbreak how to

It’s been a crazy last couple of days, but it’s also been very exciting. It all started when the jailbreak for iOS 8.3 came unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, and it culminates with the release of a Cydia Substrate compatible update this evening. No doubt, there’s still much more to come, but now we’d like to take the time to wrap up the ongoings of the last two days.

In this post, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the iOS 8.3 jailbreak, and what you might expect in the future.

Of course, we’ll be sure to keep this post updated, as there will surely be additional pieces of news and tutorials to come out in the coming days. What can we expect going forward? Although I can’t say for a certainty, I’d say that the possibility of an iOS 8.4 jailbreak is very real from what I’ve seen. Who knows, iOS 8.3 might not be the end of the fun.

What do you think about all that’s happened thus far? Sound off in the comments below with your thoughts on the matter.

I am jailbroken without any issues. Thanks idownloadblog for keeping me up to date with reliable news, walkthroughs and download links. I have been glued to your site for 2 days now. Thanks 😀

    • Thank you for following along.

Jeff, Has anyone bothered to try to contact the TaiG team to see if the exploit they used has been patched in the iOS 8.4 GM? All I see on the boards here is a lot of speculation both ways. Some say they released the JB because the exploit has been patched, while others say they released it because Apple won’t have time to patch it before Tuesday.

      • PopowichT

This definately would be useful information…

  • Donovan

can’t i get the substrate-fix trough cydia itself? I don’t like messing around with iFile

    • f96lrs

      iphone hacks go there

    • Dan G

Understandable, but if you follow Jeff’s instructions, you don’t have to go sifting through ifile. Once the file it’s downloaded it opens in iFile and one click from there. Real easy. Watch the video.

  • :D

Does this jb work with the iOS 8.4 beta?

    • Carlos Medina

It should if i’m not mistaken

      • :D

Yeah it seems you’re right. I hope Apple doesn’t patch it before the final version gets released.

    • pnh

More importantly, does it work with the iOS 8.4 GM?

  • Chelu

Same here @Remy no problems jailbreaking my iPhone 6Plus! Awesome updates iDB love this site!!!

  • DomPerignon1

You forgot to tell readers that you should have the fix installed with a “Finished with Result Code : 0” when doing the Cydia Substrate fix. In order, to get this result you have to do is download and install the deb file with Cydia CLOSED!

My iphone 6+ is on 8.1.2 with TaiG JB but it keeps randomly respringing when i’m using safari or the music app. Does anyone know if this is because 8.1.2 was buggy or the TaiG JB was buggy.
I don’t have this issue on my ipad which is on 8.1 with Pangu JB, in fact i’ve not encountered a single problem on the ipad

    • Mario Britten

Just make a fresh restore, then jailbreak again. Sometimes the jailbreak causes little bugs in the system as time goes by, that’s quite normal.

      • Dazz W

This was my first course of action, i’m not new to jailbreaking. In fact i done several fresh restores and the problem still persists. i know ios 8.1.2 was quite buggy, but when the phone was on 8.1 with the Pangu JB i had no problems whatsoever. Thats why i was asking if it was the TaiG JB causing problems

      • Mario Britten

Ok, but did you restore from a backup after the clean restore? That might be the problem, if the backup was made while the bug was already there.

      • Jordan

iCloud backup saves only apple data no jailbreak data goes to iCloud backups. Apple data only. Always use iCloud to backup before a jailbreak restore as iTunes will carry over jailbreak data file pieces and you will not come out “clean”.

      • Dazz W

        I never restore from backups

      • Glenn DolFan Baptista

I’m still on 8.1 I have no problems at all. I think I’m staying here and passing on 8.3.

  • Thanks iDownloadBlog for the updates! This is where I first read about the iOS 8.3 jailbreak story.

With regards to recent updates and about the leaked 2.1.0/2.1.1 installers, TaiG seems to announce things on Weibo first. Aside from the Google auto-translated text, I’ve made my own translations of their posts:

    25/06/2015 15:51
Dear users, there appears to be a number of new TaiG jailbreak installers circulating the Internet today, they seem to be TaiG internal test builds, counterfeits, or unofficial versions. So far the latest public build for TaiG Jailbreak Tool is version 2.0.0. We would kindly like to ask everyone to wait patiently, as our team is working hard to prepare the next update for public release and will announce it on Weibo as soon as that happens. Again, we apologise sincerely for making everyone wait so long.

    25/06/2015 17:16
We would like to discourage everyone from downloading or circulating the internal test builds of the TaiG Jailbreak Tool, as it contains a bug that can cause app icons to disappear from the Home Screen. The upcoming public version will eliminate this issue. We are currently working with Saurik (creator of Cydia) to resolve this UICache issue, and will publish the new update as soon as this is fixed.

  • Vince Vinluan

Anyone installed their ipa(apps or games) and save data not included?

  • David Hvilivitzki

Didn’t work for me, tried 2.1.1 and it doesn’t find iTunes. tried going back to 12.0 keeps saying it was not installed correctly.

    Hello Jeff,

I am jailbreaking for the first time. I am using itunes .
when i run the taig.exe file, i am ending up with following “Apple driver hasnt been found. Please download and install itunes. Do you have any suggestions for this?

    Thanks in advance,

    • Ryan Jackson Hebert

This happened to me on both Windows laptops and I even uninstalled all instances of itunes before installing the downgraded version. No clue why…

I was finally able to JB by installing VMWare on my mac and followed iDB’s video.

  • Sergio De La Garza

BAT Getaway error when trying to get TaiG tool 2.1.1 ?

  • askep3

Is there any way I can back up my tweaks and settings on IOS 8.1 so that I can restore to them when I jailbreak IOS 8.3?

    • Jamie Riley

The best way is buying something like PKGBackup. But it’s like $8. I don’t have that so what I do is take screenshots of all my installed tweaks and added Repos. Not exactly elegant, but honestly it doesn’t really take that long to get everything back in. OpenBackup is free I think, but I can not attest to it’s working compared to PKGBackup which seems well rated by it’s users. Again, I just do it the harder way. 🙂

      • askep3

Oh ok, I’ll just do it your way, thanks!

  • jalexcarter

is anybody else having trouble running TaiG at all or is it just me? Before I can even begin the jb when its “checking the jailbreak environment” or something it says that theres no Apple driver and to install iTunes but I have iTunes installed.

Thought maybe it was an issue using the old 12.1.0 version of iTunes so even tried it with the current iTunes software 12.1.2 and it still gives me the same error message. Did this on TaiG 1.1 and the new 2.0 version as well.

The download link for the 2.1.1 version of TaiG wont download from iDB’s download page not sure why, and 2.0 is the latest version on TaiG’s website. WTF is going on I need my jb back please help!

    • Andres

Taig removed the files because they are not ready yet those leaks were betas unfinished programs. But don’t worry they’ll release the public tool soon

  • Dhruv

  • Blip dude

I love how among all of this, people forgot that Pangu was also supposed to released a new Jailbreak as well. And they were also going to wait until iOS 8.4 as well. Let’s see if that’s still the case.

i have iphone 5c with ios 8.3. yesterday i am jailbroken my device with taig but after jailbreaking, all default icons like setting , safari, camera, app store etc. are disappeared… what can i do now to solve this problem, plzzzz help me

  • Tom

I can honestly say I’ve tried EVERY possible option and I can never get past 20%, multiple reboots, then fail. There HAS to still be something wrong with the TaiG tool. Tried: every version of iTunes, every USB port, wifi and airplane mode on and off with each other option, restore to new, etc etc.
I’m only left with the conclusion that in a rush to achieve global jailbreak “fame”, the TaiG team just rushed out and severely flawed product.

  • darryl

Anybody however doesnt understand how to unlock AT&T iphones PERMANENTLY??? Its easy at all Move search att-iphoneunlocking, we may do it really rapidly!

  • Hamberger Levente

If some of you folks is having a hard time trying to unlock AT&T units, you can take a glance at Att-iphoneunlocking, it’s one of the few websites that is still in a position to factory unlock AT&T telephones after AT&T had their repository replaced, which means AT&T took out the access with their repository from several cheap unlocks.
