If you are looking for a fun title to play this weekend, or if you need to make your productivity a bit better, check out our list of apps and games for your weekend enjoyment.
If you like self-torture, try your hand at this vicious roguelike platform game. Players must traverse the darkest corridors of a dangerous dungeon. Rooms are procedurally generated, which means fighting a boss could happen at any time, and so can finding epic loot. Fight monsters, avoid deadly traps, and find the key to get to the next room. Loot chests for weapons, armor, and rare items. However, be warned. All of the experience you earn and the rewards you gain will be lost forever if you die. This game is available for $3.99.
I recently watched a trailer for Jurassic World. I have to admit, it looks almost as exiting as the original did in 1993. To get you excited about the upcoming film, NBC Universal has launched a fun little photo app that allows you to superimpose an imposing raptor right into you family movies. You can customize the look of your 3-D animated dino by adjusting the size and position. You can also move the shadow to properly reflect the sun’s position in your creation. You can even adjust the color and saturation of the overall shot. This app is available for free.
What would the world be like if a widespread bombing attack wiped out most of humanity? Would we stand together to put the world back together? Or would we fight against each other to survive? This game takes you to such a place and puts you in the middle of a dangerous town where you must unite or fight. The turn-based combat system allows you to show your power as you explore the area, grabbing whatever weapons you can find. The choices you make will affect your reputation. Will you be good and protect the innocent, or be evil and take what you want? This game is available for $1.99.
Did you know that Huffington Post publishes around 2,000 articles per day across the globe? Until I saw this app, I didn’t. No wonder it is so popular. Now, you can get these articles delivered right to your iPhone. Even better. Have them delivered to your Apple Watch. You can customize your newsfeed by filtering specific topics and regions that interest you the most. You’ll be up to date on everything you want and can keep up on breaking news right on Apple Watch. This app is available for free.
If you plan on going on an adventure, being fearless comes with the territory. In this game, players play a bounty hunter on a quest to save someone. After you head out into the dangerous world, you will be confronted with wave after wave of enemies. Players must attack enemies using a series of taps and swipes that are performed at a specific time. Avoiding attacks work similarly. Tap or swipe to dodge or block an enemy. Along the way, you will earn experience, upgrade to better gear, and learn new powerful skills. This game is available for $3.99.
MacID is far from being a new app. I first reviewed it back in January. I added it to this weekend’s list because the security app has been updated with Apple Watch support. So, now you can lock and unlock your Mac from your wrist. Plus, you can access audio playback controls and set your screensaver, all right from Apple Watch. I use MacID every day and Apple Watch integration has made it even more convenient for me to lock and unlock my computer. This app is available for $3.99.
Sid Meier’s Civilization has come a long way in its existence. Now, you can go “beyond Earth” and build new empires across the galaxy. Although this game has been available for Mac for a while, the reason it is on the list today is that it is on sale for 60 percent off until May 21. So, if you’ve wanted to try the game, but didn’t want to spend the money, now is your chance to get it at what is probably the best discount it will ever have. Players embark on a galactic journey, searching for a new world to populate. Colonize your new world, gaining knowledge and building armies. This game is available for $19.99.
