Google Maps gains full-screen mode, transit line colors, voice search improvements and more

Google Maps for iOS (OpenTable reservations, Material Design 001)

Google Maps last evening received another update which has brought out a couple noteworthy new features.

The application can now render maps in full-screen mode to maximize screen real estate and provide colored transit lines when retrieving transit directions. To access maps in full-screen mode, just tap an empty spot on the map.

Next, you can now filter search results to display only restaurants rated by the Zagat service.

Finally, enhanced voice-activated search features now make it easy to get directions to a place simply by tapping the microphone icon and saying “directions to,” followed by a desired place.

Google Maps 4.4 changelog:

  • View a full-screen map by tapping an empty spot on the map.
  • See transit line colors on the map when you get transit directions.
  • Filter search results for Zagat-rated restaurants (where available).
  • Type, or tap the mic and say, “directions to” a place for faster results.
  • Bug fixes.
