iOS 8 teaser 001

Tuesday, BGR said it’s learned from its own sources that Apple is shooting to release iOS 8.2 around March, ahead of the Apple Watch launch in April. “A trusted source” privy to Apple’s most recent roadmap told the technology blog that Apple isn’t planning to release iOS 8.2 this month.

In addition to general improvements and fixes, the headline feature of iOS 8.2 is official support for Apple’s wrist-worn device, which in all likelihood entails  a companion iPhone app for installing apps onto the Watch and managing various device settings.

It’s interesting that BGR also mentions that an upcoming Apple event will serve as a launchpad for the Watch. The company is said to share more details about the device at the event, and “possibly” reveal next-generation MacBook laptops.

Last week, the iPhone maker issued the iOS 8.1.3 software update containing fixes for a few nagging issues and addressing a major complaint concerning storage requirements to install future updates.

And yesterday, the company seeded iOS 8 beta 5 (build 12A4345d) to developers with the usual mix of bug fixes coupled with a few expected user-facing tweaks and improvements, such as new Continuity SMS options, new Health privacy settings, spirometry data types in HealthKit, the ability to export data in the Health app and more.

  • A whole even just to release the watch. While I doubt its necessary but I’ll watch it anyway. Then probably buy one when its released. Then only use it to check the time.

  • Blip dude

Just a thought, but I assume Apple would probably make an event, or press conference to update everyone on the Apple watch, including pricing and perhaps demoing a few apps ready to go at launch. But I also think that if they were to go with such a route (in theory of course), I would also think they will make time for new Mac announcements and dare I say it. . . A new tablet that is bigger than the iPad Air. Like I said, just a theory.

So iOS 8.2 next month followed by iOS 8.2.1 a couple of weeks after to enable the Watch Companion App seeing as how the Apple Watch isn’t being released next month alongside iOS 8.2 😐

    Hi Christian,
    I think you mentioned iOS 8 beta 5 but its 8.2 . 😛
I wonder how can you write the whole paragraph about iOS 8 beta 5 and its features without thinking once that something is wrong? :O

Hopefully, apple please announce Carplay support for the 2014 Civic Si for crying out loud, which was promised a year ago.

So no new updates? Just a whole update for the watch integration?

Was able to downgrade back to iOS 8.1.2 today and staying until there is another new and updated JB tool from TaiG or Pandu. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how long that SHSH window will be open for? I would no more than another 24-48 hours…?
