PP Jailbreak for Mac

It is now possible to jailbreak iOS 8.1.2 using a Mac, and this has been confirmed by iDownloadBlog. Up until this point, no Mac option existed for jailbreaking iOS 8.1.2, but that is no longer the case. A new tool entitled PP jailbreak for Mac has surfaced, allowing Mac users to enjoy what Windows users have been enjoying for some time now. Inside, we have a tutorial that shows how to jailbreak iOS 8.1.2 using OS X with the PP jailbreak for Mac.

Disclaimer: We’ve reached out to the normal people who comment about the safety of new jailbreak tools, but have yet to hear anything official from them. With this in mind, proceed with this jailbreak at your own risk.

Step 1: Restore your iPhone to iOS 8.1.2, and disable Find My iPhone, Passcode lock, and place your device into AirPlane mode.

Step 2: Ensure that your iPhone is connected directly to your Mac via USB cable

Step 3: Download the PP jailbreak for Mac tool and save it to your desktop

Step 4: Double click on the ppjailbreak.dmg on your desktop to mount the volume

Step 5: Drag the PP越狱.app file to the Applications folder

Step 6: Double click the PP越狱.app in the Applications folder to open it and make sure it recognizes your device

Step 7: Uncheck the pp checkmark box in the bottom left-hand corner.

Step 8: Click the jailbreak button in the middle of the screen

Step 9: Click the button in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen on the next page

Step 10: Wait until the jailbreak process completes. You’ll see a green checkmark once the tool has finished running. Wait until your device reboots and you should see Cydia. Disable AirPlane mode and then open Cydia to finish the setup

I have been able to personally confirm that this tool works for jailbreaking iOS 8.0-iOS 8.1.x on Mac OS X. What about you? What has your experience been like thus far? Sound off down below in the comments.

  • Merman123

So it works yes, but is it 100% confirmed safe? Just curious!

    • Timothy Rooney

I’m honestly not even 100% confident in the TAIG one, so I am sitting stock right now.

      • f96lrs

        813 is comings tomorrow

      • Cody

Nah. 8.1.3 is probably coming next Monday not this upcoming Monday

      • Mark Kramer

8.2 the week after that, 8.3 the week after that, then 9.0 the week after that.

      • Jayson Prado Robles

iOS 9.0 will be in beta starting 1st or 2nd week of June lol…

      • Jay DC

        That’s not how is works

      • Evad3rs

      • Andrew

        Get a damn life.

      • Martin

MuscleNerd confirmed Taig is 100% safe, even better than Pangu. So you are missing cool stuff right now 🙂

      • mrgerbik

Dont forget the ‘just some light device fingerprinting’ comment… w/e that means

      • Andrew

Google and Apple have like 523 times more information than TaiG has.

      • Totallyy, But I got an i6, would it cause crashes or anything if i jailbreak

      • Martin

        No 🙂

      • Thats great! 🙂

      • pzp1997

Not if you’re smart about what you install (i.e. no piracy).

      • Andy

Well, you’ll probably never jailbreak then since all future jailbreak tools will most likely be developed by Chinese people.

      • BoardDWorld

I used Taig, only because I was using a 4S at the time; Pangu was sucking battery & 8.1 was very sluggish. Musclenerd gave Taig a semi-confident all clear; no one has said otherwise since… I’m now on a 5s with Taig because of the battery issues with Pangu.

Like all jailbreaks the first thing you should do is install a terminal like “MTerminal” and change your user & root default password “alpine” to your own simply by typing “passwd” then type “alpine” & follow the prompts. After completed type in “login root” type “alpine” and repeat with the “passwd” command.

      • XZavier

Thank you for this advise, I have never done this before (I’m an idiot).

      • BoardDWorld

Idiot? That’s a bit self condemning, at the very most ill informed… It’s advise I found on here when the ikee worm hit. iDownloadblog use to diligently post this advise with every jailbreak release, though the last few years I haven’t seen it.

  • Tony Trenkle Jr.

So this is legit? Just to be safe I’m staying at 8.1 until we are 100% positive!

    • Andrew

What. If it wasn’t safe it’d just not make any sense.

      • Kr00

So you’d trust Chinese hackers not to add anything nasty with this jailbreak? Then I have a bridge you might like to buy………

      • XZavier

        … That’s just plain racist…

      • Kr00

Jesus, get over yourself and stop playing the racist card imbecile. FYI most viruses/malware/hacks come from Asia and China in particular. This hack is from Chinese hackers. It’s a fact, so get over it.

      • Abi Manyu

yeah, just like the iphone you’re holding now… all of those are from china…

  • Remember, do not download through Safari as the file can become corrupt. I recommend downloading through Google Chrome.

    • Nxek

      ^^ is this true??

      • Andrew

        No.

    • Chris

I’ve never had issues downloading with Safari

      • Seba

        Me too 🙂

    • BoardDWorld

You’re a strong candidate for the most useless comment I’ve read lately. For a starters, I’ve never had a corrupt file from Safari, most importantly *.dmg is verified upon mount to ensure the download is up to scratch.

    • Vikrant Misra

What? how does that even make sense?

      • It doesn’t, but it’s happened a lot in the past with jailbreak tools.

    • XZavier

Do your system preferences have allow all downloads on?

  • jlowry

I don’t see the jailbreak tool anywhere on your download page.

  • dear IDB, please don’t link to your downloads page twice in a single step. and how about you just link directly to a download link. I’m referring to Step 3 above.

    • Lee

Dear iDB. Please don’t link directly to the download. That’s stink. Please do what you’re doing and give credit where credit is due by linking to the actual website.

    • Jerry

      Oooooo you just got serveeeed

  • Nawnp MCPE

did the taig a couple of weeks ago but on a mac it took about 20 steps and 2 days to do it.

    • WonkieInc

      2 Days? Wot.

      • Nawnp MCPE

To install a virtual machine was easy, but to get it to agree with the jailbreak was hard, I had to get it to recognize USB, then get it to recognize iTunes, then get taig to recognize both, then taig to properly jailbreak(retired over a dozen times)

      • WonkieInc

        Wow how painful

    • i5JN

Could you help me, then? I’m using a VM, too, but the phone is only recognized by iTunes, not PP (or in your case, TaiG). What did you do to get it to be recognized by the JB program?

      • Nawnp MCPE

Hard to say since I tried so many things, may I ask however, Since your using PP, it might be because its Mac exclusive(no need to run it on virtual machine).

      • i5JN

Yeah, I’m only on a VM because PP is Mac exclusive. I’ve been trying to jailbreak using the VM, but PP doesn’t recognize the device. I’ve tested iTunes, iFunbox and iTools, all of which recognize the phone, but PP doesn’t.

  • James G

Does this burn new exploits? Hope not.

    • Buzz { Light:Year; }

Why would it they its gonna use the same exploits

    • Chris

It’s more than likely a reversed engineered version of Taig since they didn’t encrypt the executable.

  • Nxek

it says only 8.1 when i download the pango app not 8.1.2

    • Norbi Whitney

Pangu* is only for 8.1, this new jailbreak is not Pangu

  • droid3000

are you able to save tweaks before you restore you phone?

    • pzp1997

You can write down your tweak list using pencil and paper :P. Alternatively, there is a JB app called PkgBackup that allows you to do this (however it costs $10; do NOT pirate it).

  • Gabriel Anaya

    Finally on Mac you say?

  • Tony Trenkle Jr.

And who are these PP people? Now everyone’s doing jailbreaks these days lol

    • Kr00

Just the Chinese by the looks of it.

  • Marcus

It might be a good idea to post some background regarding this jailbreak… It took me awhile before I could trust Pangu and I currently don’t trust TaiG. I don’t like the path that jailbreaking has taken 🙁

  • Smartest Dev

I always run Parallel’s in coherence mode turning my Mac into a fusion of Windows 8.1 and Osx.

    • ✯Mike✯

whoa. I mustve been missing out. how do you do this?

      • Smartest Dev

Install Parallels. It will ask if you want “coherence” or a normal install. Choose coherence and watch the magic. Your Mac will become fused with Windows. You will be able to do anything Windows without leaving Mac Osx. Also, your Windows and Mac are sharing the same files, unlike Bootcamp.

        Good luck! Very powerful feature!

      • John

I’m curious by this… Do you need to install Windows to have this feature work?

        (I’ve never used Parralls before)

      • Smartest Dev

Yes. However, it will be installed through Parallels. For more information on Parallel’s refer to their website.

        http://www.parallels .com

    • Xee

I love Parallel’s, I don’t use the coherence mode. But I like just doing a four finger swipe and flicking between Windows and OSX, using the same file directories – its great!

      • Smartest Dev

You should try coherence some day. It’s amazing!

    • Chris

Not directly related to this article but your regular expression bothered me so much I needed to make it simpler.

      ^([wd]{4}-?){4}$

      • Smartest Dev

Thanks. I removed the ^ as it does not start with xxxx-

Never looked into it. I just did what worked. I needed the bot to be up and running in 30 minutes. Didn’t want to test with regexr to find the simplistic method.

      • Smartest Dev

After a test with regexr. I would need to use (([wd]{4}-?){3}([wd]{4}))

        I’m matching
xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx it must be this exact format with no deviations.

        Thanks.

  • Does this work for iPad Air running 8.1.2 as well?

    • solai

      yes

    • Seba

Yes it does. I just did it 🙂

  • Warmachine69

I think everyone who has wanted to jailbreak has already

  • GuyBey0ndC00L

Oh man, the wait is finally over

  • Lucus Bendzsa

Don’t listen to Jeff check the box.

    • John

I don’t know about anyone else else, but I would rather trust Jeff then you.

  • Preben Faarkrog Hansen

Do u fell the difference between 8.1 and 8.2, or is it just a waist of time.?

    • Bugs Bunnay

yea I don’t think you can fell the difference and it would just be a waste of time.

    • Lucus Bendzsa

Just if you are a developer and want to ply with apple watch apps

  • Stayt

i just used it and in 10 mins i have had 7 reboots into safe mode .. it seems to happen when you receive text messages ..

  • Stayt

i just used this method and in 10 mins i had 7 reboots into safe mode .. it seems to happen whenever i received a text message

    • solai

you need turn on airplane mode

  • I guess it is better to run a virtual machine on Mac (e.g. Windows on Parallels) with TaiG. Therefore I used the manual provided by redmondpie.

  • Matt

Take my advice and don’t ever use this jailbreak.
The guys behind it are the same people behind the infamous “PPsync” and “25PP” piracy tools.
I wouldn’t trust anything comes from pirates even for testing purposes.

  • Brian Wiegert

I have been using the TAIG version through a windows parallel set up and its been working pretty darn good on my iPhone and my iPad mini.

  • Brian Wiegert

So glad to hear that there is a MAC version out now.

  • Byron Stanley

How can I undo the jail break if I don’t like it?

    • Chris

You’ll need to restore your device via iTunes

  • Is it safe? Since my iPhone 6 plus I haven’t jailbroken my device because I don’t trust those chinese who came out of nothing ..

  • Xee

Cant believe there are still people that are waiting for a Mac version to jailbreak. Who doesn’t have access to Windows/Bootcamp/Parallels these days…?

    • Kr00

Installing parallels and windows gobbles up gigabytes of drive space. Not everyone wants to run windows for just one or two programs. Why? Windows sucks.

      • Seba

        Well said !

  • nathaniel

    is this untethered ?

  • Edawg18

All my system apps are gone after jailbreaking!

  • Chadstyle

Thanks Jeff! Had the PP jailbreak App and have been jail breaking my iDevices for years now but felt much more comfortable with the Chinese instructions after watching this. Really appreciate it!

  • Reinis Pētersons

Worked like a charm for my 8.1.2 iPad mini(1st gen) and iPhone 4S.
Only remember to turn off FindMyiPhone in Settings/iCloud and location services also must be off prior install. Now I’m 30 minutes in and everything looks legit so far.

  • TwinSon

Debating if i should move from 8.1 to 8.1.2 on my 6+. Dunno if there is anything important that I need.

    • XZavier

I would do it now since we don’t have a guarantee that 8.1.3 is jail breakable.

  • Sazzy Woo

Yaaayyyyyyyyy finally got my ipad mini jailbroken its been aggggggges since its been done THANKKKKKKKYOUUUUUUUUU LOADS

  • Sazzy Woo

does not work wont put cracked ipa files on

    • Kr00

Then don’t install stolen apps. Devs deserved to be supported not robbed!

  • Ben

I think our confidence in this jailbreak would improve if we could read chinese Lol

  • Black Kid

I got it to work, but when it respringed, i did not get cydia. I tried reinstalling, and that didn’t work.

  • Edness

I tried to use this method to jailbreak (for the very first time) an Apple device: my old iPad2. Everything seemed to be proceeding according to the step-by-step instructions and the video except that the green dot next to the line in the middle of the software panel at the end of the process – indicating that I have been successful – never appeared… just an orange/red one line message (that you can also see at the very very beginning of the video). So I thought I had failed to jailbreak the unit.

Nevertheless, my iPad did restart several times and, oddly, the Cydia app appeared out of nowhere and launched itself but then crash, then jumped around here and there on the screen and then crashed and crashed … when I tried to launch is repeatedly.

Shortly thereafter, all my app icons disappeared including the Settings button… and the only thing that now comes up are my screen savers and a grey, app-less, horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen. Now I can’t even get into my settings to revert to Apple’s original settings.

I have tried to restart/hard reboot the device several times and nothing changes. Have I completely screwed up this machine ?

    Help!! Any suggestions ?

  • GuyBey0ndC00L

Thank you iDownloadblog staff for this updated.

  • Luis Martinez

the PP link is not working or dead. any mirrors we can download from?

  • hobbles free

I restored to iOS 8.1.2 put I have stuff on it. (Apps) can I still have it jail broken

  • disqus_3RebKnGel1

Just wondering, do you all still feel like jail-breaking has as many benefits as before? I used to jailbreak all my iPhones, but then I switched to Android for two years. I just got an iPhone 6 and am considering jail-breaking. In the past, jailbreaks used to kill my battery life, but the additions were well worth it. Would you say that remains true? Also, what are some useful jailbroken apps to download.

    Thanks.

  • Dean Johnson

Anyone else having trouble downloading the program? Horrible speed, but it’s not my internet connection 90 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up, but downloading the file at 50 Kbps.

  • Pancho Mag

help at the end it always has a little orange triangle and some orange chinese writing … help plz

  • Andres

is it untethered? and do i have to install the other stuff from cydia to enable my passcode stuff?

  • Tanezare’e Mcmillon

Cyrus downloaded but I cannot find anything to download. Something about not enough sources?

  • paul

    Worked flawlessly. Extremely fast!

  • James Dutton

I keep getting an error when trying trying to jailbreak. I followed every step exactly. Not sure why its not working. I have an att iphone 6 16gb

  • The Fluffy Alpaca

Worked flawlessly for me! it took just about a minute, very fast indeed.

  • Mr.DnQ

HI, I just updated my iphone 6 to iOS 8.1.2 because of the new PP tool.
But after updating I tried to perform the jailbreak and when it’s in the middle I get an error… Now I’ve lost my JB… What can I do?

    • iPhoneWINS

reboot the iPhone and do it again

  • Kr00

Look up what the word racist means before throwing such disgraceful claims around like confetti. It’s a fact most hacks/viruses come out of China. Biggot.
