TaiG Untether

The TaiG 8.0-8.1.1 Untether has been updated to version 1.1, and it comes bundled in the TaiG jailbreak that’s downloadable for Windows, and it also comes as a Cydia package for those who have already jailbroken with TaiG.

The update doesn’t appear to be a major update, but there are fixes included to fix sandboxing issues present in the previous version of the TaiG jailbreak tool. Users who are jailbroken, and those who have yet to jailbreak should use TaiG 1.1.

There are two ways that you can snag the 1.1. update of TaiG:

1: You can go the traditional route, and jailbreak your device using the TaiG tool for Windows. You can download the latest version of TaiG 1.1 on our downloads page. You can then follow our TaiG jailbreak tutorial to learn how to jailbreak using TaiG from start to finish.

2: If you’re already jailbroken, simply add the TaiG repo and update the untether. Note: those of you who are jailbroken using Pangu should not use this untether. This is only for those jailbroken with TaiG. To update the untether from Cydia, do the following:

Step 1: Open Cydia

Step 2: Tap the Sources tab

Step 3: Tap the Edit button in the upper right-hand corner

Step 4: Tap the Add button in the upper left-hand corner

Step 5: Type the following URL in the pop-up box: http://apt.taig.com and tap Add Source

Step 6: Once the source has full loaded tap the Return to Cydia button

Step 7: Tap the TaiG source at the bottom of the page, and tap All Packages

Step 8: Tap the TaiG 8.0-8.1.1 Untether package, and tap the Install button in the upper right-hand corner and tap Confirm

Step 9: Once the install is completed tap the Reboot button at the bottom of the screen to reboot your device

Have you updated to the latest version of TaiG?

  • Me

      Good for you.

      • James G

        Good for you too.

      • leart

so far everything is good 😀

    • John Davis

Damn my girlfriend effin updated my iPhone to iOS 8.1.1. She says by accident “okay, accident my @ss”. I hope we get an answer soon if the new jailbreak is safe cause I need to jailbreak again and get the bigU Movies app from Cydia from either xsellize repo, insanelyi repo, Appcake or Zeusmos. I was just using the bigU Movies app yesterday and I already downloaded the movies Horrible Bosses 2, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, Dumb and Dumber To, Interstellar, John Wick, Fury, No Good Deed and Guardians of the Galaxy. I planned to start watching them tonight and this shit happens. lmao, I can’t believe my girl did this crap to me. I guess I bit the bullet on this one. Once I jailbreak again she is not coming near my damn iPhone. lol

      • tysiphonehelp

don’t worry the jailbreak is safe and if you decide to wait on jailbreaking then you can just go “imoviesapp(.)c o m” That is where I go for movies when I can’t jailbreak.

      • techraxx

I watched the best copy of Horrible Bosses 2 from bigU and lmao through the whole movie.

      • mlee19841

Just say your promoting the bigU Movies app. You already posted this same thing on countless other threads…….

      • me

I was about to type the same!!!!

      • JayW88

        Dump her. She’s gotta go…

      • John

Lol. BigU is a paid for service. Il stick with MovieBox thanks. does everything and more than that bigU shite and free

    • MegaAce042

I have a boot-loop issue on my iPod touch

  • NekoMichi Kobayashi

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if a device jailbroken using Pangu was used to uninstall Pangu untether and install TaiG untether packages in the same operation? I’m guessing boot-loop? Either that, or the iPhone attempts to divide by zero and combusts the entire Earth’s atmosphere.

    • I’m not sure as I probably wouldn’t dare trying, but I think your device could get in trouble for that. Both untethers are different and not inter-exachangeable

      • Cody

        Exchangeable* 🙂

      • Agru

It’s just a typo, WHO CARES, we all know what he meant

    • Blake

In most untether packages in Cydia it says that removing this package will unjailbreak your device and cause a bizarre bootloop, similiar to a tethered boot from redsn0w, but you will not be able to tether boot and will have to restore. I would strongly advise against removing the Pangu untether or installing the TaiG untether on 8.1.

    • Blake

I pulled this from the Evasi0n 7 untether in Cydia.

    • Jonathan

Or, multiply by infinite and be insta-vaporized.

  • Ryan Hake

I did a fresh restore and jailbroken with taig as a new phone. When I used open backup it re-installed pangu untether. How can I go about either removing pangu untether from cydia or deleting it from open backup. I understand I can do a fresh restore and re-jailbreak with taig but then I would have to re-install all my sources and packages without using openbackup app. If there is a way please advise. I had to restore my device 3xs so far because I believe the pangu untether on taig is causing a boot problem. If my phone completely reboots it puts it in a tether state and all my cydia apps crash.

    • Steve Norris

If you are using PKGBACKP you can manually remove the 2 items that start with Pangu before doing the restore (don’t use Quck Restore)

      • Ryan Hake

ok i will try that.. do you know of a way i could uninstall it from cydia with ifile or ifunbox?
        thanks for your responce

      • Steve Norris

Nope. I had to just do a fresh restore just like you will, sorry… I did the exact same thing.

      • Ryan Hake

i dont see it listed in pkgbackp? is it in the files section? I also did a search in pkgbackp and it didnt find anything related to pangu?

      • Steve Norris

The two items are in the “Cydia” category, called:

        Pangu 8.0-8.1.x Untether

        Pangu Loader for iOS

      • Blake

I just noticed that the package in Cydia is “Pangu 8.0-8.1.x untether.” But Pangu does not work for 8.1.x, it only works for 8.0-8.1.

      • Steve Norris

When they made the untether they had no way to know in advance that it would not work on 8.11 so they did not put an “ending” firmware on it… so, if Apple had not closed the security loophole that allowed it to function it would have “just worked” on 8.11 without them doing anything… however, since Apple DID fix that we get the issue where it can get installed by these backup tools….

      • Blake

This is a good point, one that I did not think about. A good example is the first evasi0n. Everybody was almost certain it would be patched in 6.1 but apple let it go for 6.1.1 and 6.1.2. So you are correct there is no way of knowing.

    • Blake

I think it would be easiest to just take screenshots of all of your installed apps in cydia and reinstall them manually after a fresh restore. That is what I always do. It shouldn’t take very long. You should not have the Pangu untether installed on 8.1.1 as I am almost 100% certain it is going to cause major issues.

      • Ryan Hake

yes if my phone reboots it goes into a tether state and cydia plus all app crash. Im trying to uninstall it but looks like i might have to re-install everything one at a time since its in my openbackup file

      • Blake

Yeah that sounds about right. I am just taking a wild guess here because I have never encountered this issue, but my guess would be uninstalling it will not fix issues either. If it does, great, but I have a feeling you are going to have to restore. Good luck though. I would just try to get screenshots, then restore, jailbreak again, and reinstall all tweaks manually and you should be fine.

      • Rigs101

Yeah you have to do it one by one that happened to me yesterday was previously jail broken with pangu updated to taig and nothing opened I tried restarting the iPad with no tweaks but that didn’t work at all I had to restore again and jailbreak again and no backupaz instead get everything one by one plus if it goes into safe mode after as tweak you know exactly what isn’t compatible with 8.1.1

      • Ryan Hake

ok looks like that’s were im at. lol Time for my 5th restore! I couldn’t understand what was causing this. I goggled and never saw this issue until i noticed pangu untether in my package list. That has to be the issue.
        thanks guys for your responses

  • yoong

    good jeff

  • Latinpride011

    • Blake

For those planning to Jailbreak on iOS 8.1.1 then I highly recommend adding this Cydia Source into Cydia after you jailbreak so you don’t have to manually input all those Cydia Sources manually. This will automatically add all the best Cydia Sources and give you access to all the best Cydia Tweaks, Themes and Apps for FREE with just a push of a button. Follow the steps below.

    1. Open Cydia

    2. Tap Sources

    3. Tap Edit

    4. Tap Add

    5. Type this url in the box (cydiasource,n e t) without the spaces and replace the coma for a dot in the url.

    6. Tap “Add Source”

    7. Install the package labelled “All Sources”.

This will give you all the best Cydia Sources to have access to all the best Tweaks, Apps and Themes for FREE.

    • tysiphonehelp

i been using this cydia source for the past 4 yrs it’s ab the only cydia source I use now since they always keep their content updated with all the latest and best cydia sources, tweaks, themes and apps.

    • johnpowers

damn this source has all the newest tweaks for Free!

    • susanb34

omg this source saved me so much time. now i don’t have to search for the best sources or tweaks

    • AnoNymouz

stay away from this. people if you don’t already know you are going to need ifile to delete this.

      Navigate to /private/etc/apt/sources.list.d

and just delete the file containing all repos.

  • TwinSon

Nice but I’m stickin with Pangu 8.1 JB on my 6+ until I see a reason to go thru the hassle of doing a restore and JBing again. I like my setup how it is now. Only plausible reason I would update is if my device was screwing up, firmware needs to be updated to support Apple Watch (thinking about getting it), or Apple pushes out a significant update (thats jailbreakable) that fixes any major issues.

  • Antzboogie

I love all this Jailbreaking I’m so happy to be able to Jailbreak!! I really am grateful and have bought plenty of tweaks to support Cydia. Thank You God, To all the Developers, and the Jailbreakers!!

    • GzyOnline

      Amen!

  • AnoNymouz

gonna give this a shot. there are some animations on 8.1 that are very bothersome.

  • Jason Culp

Ahh safe and snug back in my jb iPad…awesome to be able to have the freedom to setup my device to my liking and enjoyment. Thanks Jeff and IDB this job was easy as pie.

  • Me
