reeder 2

Popular RSS feed reader Reeder 2 has received a significant update this evening, bringing the app to version 2.6. The update includes a handful of highly-requested new features, such as support for the larger displays of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and Landscape mode (iOS 8 only).

Additionally, 2.6 brings about support for iOS 8’s share extensions, adding the now-familiar “More” option to Reeder’s share sheet. This will allow users to share articles and other content they come across in Reeder to other services outside of the app’s default sharing options.

Rounding out today’s update is a handful of bug fixes. The change log for Reeder says that 2.6 includes “various bug fixes for iOS 8,” and corrects a known issue related to “failed authentication error handling.” The bottom line here is that Reeder 2 should now play nicely with iOS 8.

Despite the demise of Google Reader last year, Reeder 2 has remained a go-to app for RSS users. It supports Feedbin, Feedly, and various other RSS services, and is worth checking out if you’re in the market for such an app. You can find the latest version of Reeder 2 in the App Store for $5.

I think newsify has won me over. I may just stick with that rss reader. It just seems reeder never gets any fixes or updates unless it’s absolutely necessary.

      Forreal

Oh look, it’s identical to how it looked using the jailbreak tweak ForceGoodFit. Absolutely ridiculous how long it took them to put this update out.

Is it just me, or is Unread actually better?

  • Unread and Newsify are my go-to news apps. Let me explain to you why Reeder just doesn’t cut it: I never look at individual articles swiping from one to the next. Instead, I always use the article list scrolling up and swiftly skimming through the articles. The problem with Reeder is that it doesn’t have an option to mark articles as read while scrolling, nor does it have an option to display images within the article list.

    • QuarterSwede

Sure it does, swipe the article to the right to mark as unread. That’s the main reason I started using Reeder in the first place. It could definitely use images in the list view though

      • You misunderstood. As I scroll, the articles don’t get marked as read automatically.

Feedly is what I’m using, anyone else using it too? Or I should spend $5 bucks on this one

    • Greg Warren

Try Newsify first. I prefer Reeder but only by a slim margin, and probably just because I’ve been using it for years. Newsify is free.

      • Alberto Espinal

I’ll give it a try, thanks

      • QuarterSwede

Or Ziner or Unread which I prefer over Newsify.

Is there a way to go straight to the full article and avoid that “Read the rest of this post here”…???

    • Greg Warren

Unfortunately, no. As I understand it, most sites block this type of reading, so that you still have to click on their site and they get the page hits/ad views. Some sites still allow you to see the full article through the RSS reader (iMore is one of them) but they’re few and far between.

    • QuarterSwede

Either Ziner or Unread has a function that will show the readability view instead. It’s exactly what you want.

bought it, but still not using it

    • QuarterSwede

And I use it daily multiple times.

Found a bug with activator/touch id, which I mapped to the home button. It stops working after a phone call but works again if you lock and unlock the screen. This is only after making a call, not receiving one. Anyone getting the same results? Any suggestion to fix this issue
