OS X Yosemite (Handoff, Mac-iPad 001)

Handoff is one of the flagship features for both iOS and OS X. It allows you to seamlessly continue working where you left off on another device.

In this video tutorial, I’ll walk you through making sure that Handoff is enabled for your device, and show you how it can be used. Step inside to learn more.

To use Handoff, both your Mac and iOS devices should be connected to the same iCloud account and have Bluetooth on. You’ll also need to enable Handoff in System PreferencesGeneral on the Mac, and SettingsGeneralHandoff & Suggested Apps on iOS.

Open a supported app on your iOS device, such as Safari, Mail, or Messages, and you should see the Handoff app appear to the left of the Finder app in your Mac’s Dock. Click the Handoff app to launch the app on your Mac and pick up where you left off.

To pick up Mac apps from your iOS device, open the iOS App Switcher, and swipe to the left-most card. You can also access Handoff apps from the iOS Lock Screen.

Do you plan on using Handoff to easily pick up where you left off in your workflow? Sound off down below in the comments.

I can’t seem to Airdrop from iPhone 5 to MacBook Pro 2012 but I can Airdrop from MacBook Pro 2012 to iPhone 5? Any help?
Both running Yosemite and ios 8

It could get stuck sometime but you can try to switch off bluetooth and wifi on both equipments and restart them then switch those back on. In your case there’s nothing wrong with the commune between two equipments.

  • Does Handoff ever work first time instantly for anyone? Everytime I do something on my Mac and pick up my iOS device nothing ever shows on the lockscreen and vice versa. If I left my device a while and then picked it up then it will show…Kind of defeats the purpose though if you have to wait before anything will show up…

re-login your iCloud account FaceTime and iMessage together and restart both your iPhone and Mac also be sure that you are using exactly the same apple ID with iCloud/FaceTime/iMessage. And confirm your Mac and iPhone are in the list of Handoff capacity.

Already do everything, log off from icloud of both devices, restart.
Macbook air bought on december 2013, and iPhone 5s
        yosemite and 8.1

Did you log off your FaceTime and iMessage along? It could take several minutes to respond. I met your situation and I re-log in iCloud/FaceTime/iMessage accounts several times before I can get through.

I want to know how to turn the damn thing off. It keep prompting me to handoff from “chrome on ipad”. I don’t even have chrome installed on my ipad!

EDIT – and then I watched the first 15 seconds of the video. Open mouth, insert foot 😉

How to use handoff on older Macs? Anyone? I know it sounds weird but probably we can

    • Sicheng Xu

Replace your bluetooth chip with a bluetooth 4.0 chip(if there’s any) and modify some system documents and you are good to go. Work with 2011 early to 2012 mid version.

I’ve got a 6+ and Mid 2014 RMBP and can’t use handoff to save my life. There is an issue with the bluetooth connectivity of the iPhone 6 and 6+ I believe so for now I guess I’m stuck.

  • eXoguti093

I don’t like that I have to leave Bluetooth on for this

  • Logan

Well I got Handoff to work… once… after about a minute of waiting. Truely brilliant and definitely not half baked.

I have a MacBook Pro late 2012 and trying to use handoff with my iPhone 5 but its saying the MB is not supported. Any suggestions?

Anyone has experienced “faulty” handoff (especially with Messages) with a jailbroken iPhone? (I’m using MacBook Pro late 2013 with an iPhone 5S)
