Apple is reportedly on the verge of removing audio products and accessories by the audio equipment specialist Bose from both its store shelves in addition to the demo units as early as next week, MacRumors learned Friday from a source privy to the matter.

Although the report comes short on specifics, the decision may have something to do with Bose’s patent infringement lawsuit against Beats. As you know, Apple purchased Beats Electronics and Beats Music for $3 billion earlier this year.

The development seemingly coincides with a new agreement Bose signed with the National Football League banning its players from wearing Beats headphones while on television.

The inventory change, the publication noted, will begin early next week, “with instructions for removal being sent to employees in the coming days”.

Like Apple, Beats owns the high-end: the company is said to hold a sixty percent share of the $100+ headphone category. Bose in its lawsuit alleges that the Beats Pro, Beats Studio and Beats Studio Wireless products use its patented noise-canceling technology and is now seeking financial damages and a sales ban.

Following its Beats buy, Apple’s been increasingly featuring Beats headphones and audio accessories on its online store and at brick-and-mortar locations and promoting the Beats Music service to new iOS device owners and on the App Store.

Recode said yesterday that the Bose-NFL deal bars players from wearing Beats headphones on camera, as well as all other non-Bose headphone brands. But the ban didn’t seem to impress San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who got fined $10,000 by the NFL for attending a press conference while sporting Beats headphones.

Disclaimer: Kaepernick has an endorsement deal with Beats.

  • Ebwhite

Wow I spend so much in store on bose products. This is a real downfall for me and a wrong turn apple is making.

    • It’s more wrong on Bose to only ban Beats products from being worn on camera in the first place. In my opinion Bose should get more punishment than this.

      • Nick Jones

its not just beats,it’s anything other than BOSE

      • Come on, we all know that’s mainly Beats.

      • TwinSon

It’s geared specifically towards Beats. There’s no other brand that has any kind of name recognition that comes anywhere near Beats. That’s not even up for debate. They own the high-end market and everyone, including Bose, knows it.

      • WTF?

Seinheiser should slap you three times

      • Umut Bilgiç

Agreed partially. Senheiser is a very very well known and reputed company in more pro-sumer market.

      • TwinSon

      • bigkev943

got to a college campus and ask students if they have heard of beats or senheiser you will get more beats than anything there is no marketing for the other i can’t remember the last time i have seen a senheiser commercial outside of a admirals lounge while traveling overseas..

      • BoardDWorld

If I want the very best for my money being handed over I would be getting Sennheiser. Beats really aren’t that good.

      • TwinSon

For what? Speaking the truth? The numbers speak for themselves. Great brand but that doesn’t change the fact that they are a distant thought to “normal” consumers. Am I wrong?

      • bigkev943

they should slap you for thinking that way Beats has more brand recognition when it comes to youth and pretty much every class. Bose, Seinheiser are audiofile gear only folks that like classical music use their products before apple stores made Bose popular no one outside of rich people bought their stuff it was high priced and only catered towards folks with money

      • isogrifo

When was the last time you saw an NFL player wearing Seinheiser headphones? Bose is clearly going after Beats, and logically so. But I think it will backfire on them.

      • bigkev943

agree its aimed at beats which are what most NBA, and NFL players use you never see BOSE when it comes to sports unless you run track.

      • Oh well that certainly doesn’t make it better…

      • Umut Bilgiç

I think there is no wrong and punishment in this grand scheme of things. It is just competition, eh? Sure what bise did with nfl is kinda weird but it is business afterall. It is not just bose doing this. Beats does this more then bose does it 🙂 but since bose deal is with a huge coop like nfl and beats deal is witj individuals bose deal got much more publicity

      • Where does beats do this?

      • TwinSon

        They don’t.

      • Umut Bilgiç

Beats pays artists and athletes to wear beats in public and in their music videos. Some would be justin bieber, nicki minaj, serena williams, and some nba players – which i cant seem to remember.

    • HooDatty

Hey, it’s not that big of a deal. They’re replacing one overpriced crapasticular product with another that you can now buy. You shouldn’t be that upset. You could if you wanted to, invest in real quality products for the cash your forking over. Just takes a little legwork.

      • Umut Bilgiç

I think i dont understand you. Are you saying bose is overpriced and craptastic or am i just out of english lol

  • andr01d

Wow, fining players for wearing another brand? Such dog-in-the-manger marketing tactics. Unless Bose personally sponsor that particular player, this whole thing reeks of capitalism run amuck.

    • Boogaloo Burrito

Kinda reminds you of how Apple tried to ban Samsung from selling their phones here, eh? 😉 I’ll let it sink in.

      • Umut Bilgiç

Kinda reminds you of how nba players had a deal with samsung to use samsung devices on camera but where seen on the street using apple products

      • isogrifo

Uh, no. Apple won a lawsuit against Samsung for copying their device. Not even close to the same thing here.

    • n0ahcruz3

Try running a big corporation or a company and see how it feels like.

      • andr01d

I do run a closed-corporaton in South Africa. I certainly don’t tell my employees what products and services they may (or may not) use because of the companies corporate affiliations.

      • n0ahcruz3

Lol ok if u signed an endorsement agreement with a celeb etc. But that celeb wore a different brand during a press conference etc. How would u feel?

      • andr01d

Bose never signed endorsements with celebs, they signed them with the NFL, the players already had endorsements with beats which the NFL are trying to retroactively cancel. It’s just acting like a bully. I’m glad that apple are no longer stocking Bose products. Gonna costs them big time in long run.

  • Chandra Y

    Bose >>>>>>>>>>>>> Beats

    • Beta382

Beats are so overhyped. Sound quality is exceptionally poor compared to what you could get for the same price (or less!). I tried out a pair that my friend owns, and it made my tunes (mostly EDM) sound like over-bass’ed garbage.

    • Gucciipad

      B&o>>>> Bose

      • Umut Bilgiç

I like audio technica better to be honest 😀

      • Beta382

My man! I’ve got a pair of ATH-Pro 700 MK2s (with M50 pads), absolutely wonderful. Really solid brand, and the bang-for-your-buck is phenomenal. Best $160 cans I’ve found.

      • Umut Bilgiç

Exactly! I was planning on getting one of those but where i live the distributor only brings the ath m50’s. So i settled with a Bose Sound true. Light, flexible and durable build and rich sound. Lows are a bit shallow but some eq just does the trick 😀

      • White Michael Jackson

do they have small in-ear headphones? I seriously dont like huge over the ear headphones.

      • Beta382

I personally use Klipsch S4 earbuds.

      • White Michael Jackson

i have the same. s4i. are they same quality?

  • Jose Antonio Gomez

I like Bose but doing what they did with Beats in the NFL I think they deserve to be removed from the Apple Stores.

    • jgr627

Couldn’t agree more, Bose is just bitter that apple bought beats and not them

      • thomas

Apple should have bought both and got the best of both worlds.

    • Beats does the same thing with celebrities; pays/asks them to wear only beats headphones…I’d expect Beats to fine celebs if they break the agreement they got paid for. See MKBHD’s video better explaining it here (http://bit ly/1vBSolC), copy the URL to your address bar and add a . between t and l.

    • Umut Bilgiç

I do not think so. To me, no one is guilty of anything and no one has the right or power to “punish” the other in any way. The only way they could get punishment would be by means of law and that is what bose is trying to do woth their noise-cancellong technology patent infringment case

  • Haha, the double edge sword in action. Bose called for it…

    • Umut Bilgiç

Yeah some pretty intense rivalry. It would be interesting to see beats move if the court found bose right!

  • TwinSon

Oh wow, Bose threw a jab and got hit with a hay maker. Serves them right.

  • Matheus Lisboa

Is bose better than beats? Yes, indeed
Are they jackasses? Oh, god, yes!

  • Eikast

Great move by Apple. They own beats and there’s no point in selling another company’s product while they’re sueing you.

    • Umut Bilgiç

Haha yeah kinda true. Nothing diffrent then samsung stores selling iphones 😀

  • Umut Bilgiç

Wow what a d**k move. Competition is competition i guess. I got all my bose equipment from apple stores to this date. Kind of a downer

  • n0ahcruz3

Bose and Beats two overrated companies.

  • Itzkhaoz

    Beats are mediocre headphones.

  • Yujin

Well like children, NFL players who are told you can’t do this or that .. They will do it cause it is forbidden.

    • TwinSon

Well, they can afford to do it if they so choose. The reality is they will either catch a fine, or wait 90 minutes and wear their headphone of choice anyways. This WON’T, however, start making any of them use Bose products if they weren’t already using them.

  • Whatya_know_joe

Bose sucks. Its fake sound coming out of their overpriced box. Sortof like starbucks. Garbage ingrediants but marketing wizards.

    • White Michael Jackson

      LMAO at starbucks

  • Chindavon

Bose is just as over-rated as Beats. My New Studios are just fantastic. Tried them all At Best Buy, and there’s really not much of a difference. Audiophile experts, pile on.

  • WiseBlasian

Both are overrated anyways. What bugs me is that the iPhone is becoming too “childish”. First with iOS7 bright colors and now the iPhone 6 kinda looks like a toy. Before the 6 the iPhone actually looked professional. Seems like Apple is slowly losing its “premium adult vibe”. Don’t get me wrong I bought a 6 and will most likely be upgrading every year because I like iOS. But beats is oriented towards kids and bose looks more mature. I personally don’t have bose products I’m a fan of bowers and wilkins but I would take bose over beats any day…

  • jp2002

Jamo imo is one of the best sound systems brand.

  • Macdemon

Beats are rubbish…….I’ll simply shop elsewhere to get my Bose products.
