ipad mini 2 gold

Apple is planning an iPad event for Thursday, October 16, according to a new report from Recode’s John Paczkowski. Citing sources familiar with the plans, Paczkowski says the event will be held in the company’s Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino, and will be used to talk about new iPads, new iMacs and of course, OS X Yosemite.

The report notes that this will be a much more laid-back affair, compared to the spectacle that was Apple’s iPhone 6/Apple Watch event, without any mysterious white structures. This is further evidenced by the venue choice—the Town Hall location is far more intimate than the Flint Center, which could hold over 2,400 occupants.

Admittedly, Thursday seems like an odd day for an Apple event, as the company has typically favored Mondays and Tuesdays in the past for its keynotes. But given Paczkowski’s nearly flawless (possibly flawless) track record for pinpointing unannounced Apple event dates, it’s hard not give his prediction some serious weight.

As for what we expect to see at the event, new iPads will likely be a headliner, with Touch ID Home buttons and possible new gold colorway. The iMac refresh could be a big hit as well, however, as recent reports claim it could finally feature a Retina display. Apple could also mention iOS 8.1, which is slated to land around that time.

Update: Bloomberg corroborates the story.

Can’t wait for OSX Yosemite. Really want to install the GM of the public beta, but only have my daily driver to do it on.

    • Mike Colacone Saal

public beta has been fine for me on my daily driver

    • James Gunaca

Feel ya on the GM Candidate. I’ve been running Yosemite on a separate partition of my personal rMBP but am going to be patient and wait to update my primary partition once the release is in the App Store. Trust me, just be patient. There are some features that are still pending iOS 8.1 and they’ll most likely be rolled out together.

It’s tempting, but I advise against it if you have a lot of media you’d risk having to do a clean Time Machine restore from!

      • Utrarunner5

Not to worried about losing anything. I do a clean install every month or so. I know it’s unnecessary but I just do. I have a time machine backup as well as a home folder backup. I’m only worried about functionality. And yeah I’m gonna wait for the iOS 8.1 so continuity and handoff are complete

  • Osama Muhammed

fingerprint scanner, faster graphics than original ipad, new cpu name.. best ipad since ipad, bye

    • Kurt

And 1 glorious gig of RAM!

      • RAM isn’t everything (idownloadblog[.]com/2014/10/02/iphone-6-video-wi-fi-multitasking/)!

I agree it’s about time Apple added more RAM to their devices though even if it’s just for future proofing. I don’t know how much longer Apple can get away with only including 1gb of RAM in their devices even more so when you consider that the iPad is now facing more competition than ever before…

      • Bob

I don’t have 32GB ram in my main desktop because I’ll ever use it. I have it because it makes me feel better about myself.

      • Matt

I don’t want the websites to reload every time I switch the a stupid tab on safari! So yes, more ram is necessary and I want more ram for Gods sake!

      • Kurt

But that’s not multitasking. A frozen app has a couple of good benefits, but it’s frozen and not all apps are frozen when you leave them, ie WORLD OF TANKS. It restarts just like any app. But with a tweak like BACKGROUND MANAGER I can switch to another app and come back and it is still doing its thing. Proof that the iPad can do true multitasking, but needs more ram to properly run Safari and to multitask better. I really hope Apple is able to get the coding done so we can have side by side multitasking for the iPad (and iPhone Plus).

I really wish app developers could decide if there app uses the frozen feature or fully running in the background. A note app for example doesn’t need true multitasking. but games/video players/web browers etc. Those could benifit from true multitasking. I’m glad we have tweaks like BACKGROUND MANAGER.

I wish I could go into the future and see what the iPad will be like in 5 years. Unfortunately I think it would look pretty much the same. But maybe it will have a wacom type stylus? I think eventually we will get it. Maybe only on the 13″?

      • ClaudieX X

I just remember that, here… we saw an article talking about a hidden code (on iOS 8) dedicated to multitasking with multi windows size… like it was PANORAMA mode photos… and then it came really on iOS…

    • Slow down it may have additional colors and iPad specific OS features(multi-app multitasking)…

      • Osama Muhammed

I forgot about that, There were rumors regarding app multitasking on previous iPad release.. THAT WOULD BE THE BIGGEST THING TO HAPPEN TO IOS, excited.

      • It definitely will be welcomed especially if the rumors were true of an even bigger model.

      • Kurt

Remember the rumors for a haptic touch screen that would make the screen feel rough or other textures lol

        I want a 13″ tablet.

      • Matt Taylor

        Not a full OS? Lol

      • Matt Taylor

Yes they do… iPad sales have dropped and what with devices like the surface pro on the market if Apple doesn’t step up now it’s glorious iPad will be in real trouble…

      • Kurt

Surface pro 3 is one awesome tablet. Screen has the second most accurate colors on a mobile device-or any?. (Most accurate is Note 4)

      • Rowan09

Amoled screens do not give accurate colors, it’s always over saturated when compared to LCD screens, but they have more vibrant colors. Do you own the Surface Pro 3?

      • Kurt

Sorry bud, Note 4 has the most accurate colors. I know it hurts your pride in Apple who has low chroma over all. And their LG screens are yellow and suffer ghosting problems but you can’t say Note 4 doesn’t have the most accurate colors. We aren’t talking about the Note 3 or Note 2.

      • Rowan09

Lol. No my pride isn’t hurt, I stated a fact not my opinion in my post. Amoled screens are over saturated which doesn’t mean it’s horrible it’s all preference, but LCD screens have more natural colors. Amoled screens as you stated does have a larger color range.

      • Dan

too expensive though if you ask me, can’t bring myself to pay 1600$ for a tablet even if it’s i7

      • Kurt

Me either, but for me, I’m looking at getting the i5 at 1,000

      • Dan

yeah I thought about it too, but then I figure I’d much rather beef up my PC, some sweet games coming out this winter lol. If the surface was upgradable, wouldn’t mind along that price

      • Kurt

Yeah, I wish we could plug a better graphics card into a USB port and use that instead. Not sure if that’s possible but would be cool

      • But do consider what you’re getting over an ARM tablet for that price (http://bit ly/1yDk92N). BTW, it starts at $800 for the 64GB vs $700 for 64GB iPad.

      • Dan

Yeah it’s clearly superior. But knowing me I’d have to get the best, at that point I much rather put new parts in my PC. If it was possible to eventually upgrade parts in surface it would be another matter.

      • Undertstood. If upgradability is a key factor, check out the Dell Venue 11 Pro…

      • Markus Hudobnik

Says who? Samsung phones have been known for over saturation in colors. Not saying its bad, just not the ‘most accurate’

      • Kurt

Yes, they are known for that. But NOT the Note 4. You do realize it’s a different phone? You do realize it’s improved tech? No? iDevices still have understaturated colors (which I prefer). Whites that are yellow-thanks to LG, the Samsung screens’ whites are white not yellow. Sorry for saying the S-word.

      • Markus Hudobnik

You are quite annoying. Stop thinking that everyone hates Samsung and treating everyone on this site as such. Honestly, if the note does have better colors id have to see it in person.

      • Kurt

Of course why trust reputable sources. Only trust your eyes unless it states iPhone is best.

      • Markus Hudobnik

Did I say the iPhone was the best? Holy crap dude. Chill out. I was just stating that because of past Samsung phones. Now can we put this dumb argument to rest? Honestly I don’t even know why there was an argument in the first place.

      • Kurt

Here’s one article. You can easily search. Note 4 screen most accurate colors and find many articles done with various tests done with the same conclusion.

      • Rowan09

The iPad sales is leveling out, but check the sales of every other tablet (if you can find them)and it doesn’t compare. The Surface Pro isn’t selling well so Apple doesn’t have to worry about them. Apple is competing with themselves in the tablet space and people (including myself) do not see a reason to update their tablets every year, or even every 2-3 years when I can get the same OS as the new tablet.

      • They haven’t dropped people just aren’t buying new iPads because their old iPads are still going strong…

There’s literally nothing the iPad Air can do that my iPad 3 can’t except for blur, AirDrop and run Metal games since it has better specs (all of which I can live without)…

This is why they need to step their game up to give existing iPad owners a reason to upgrade and entice users of other tablets or people that do not use any tablets at all…

      • Matt Taylor

What do you think they need to do to the iPad to “step up their game”?

      • I wish I knew. I like many people are at the stage where I’m happy with my iPad 3 despite it’s age and just waiting for Apple to wow me. I don’t know what the iPad needs but hopefully Apple have already figured this out and just waiting to show it to the world…

    • jack

      sapphire

  • Kurt

    More RAM, thank you.

    • Tim Cook

LOL, That will never happen buddy. Sorry!

      • Capirexz

        Too bad, man!

      • Kurt

We’ll thank you for taking the time to write me. Your buddy, Kurt.

      • Matt Taylor

Then you can sit back and watch iPad slowly fade into the background! Lol

    • Faris

No need, more storage is the one we looking for.

      • Kurt

My constantly crashing iPad laughs at you. Safari crashed twice tonight and a system crashed once…low memory is to blame. (I am jailbroken so that could make it worse)

      • Actually the fact that your are jailbroken would explain why your device crashes so much. I hardly ever see stock iOS crash. I know it does crash because my 5S crashed when it was new and the 6 crashes when Im trying to run apps that aren’t supposed to be installed. However my stock apps have yet to crash.

      • Kurt

When it crashed so much, before being jailbroken, I was told it was because of the firmware and it will be fixed. Which wasn’t true. Someone else, Felix, pointed me to the real culprit. Low memory. He showed me the diagnostics report. I personally think, safari is poorly written since iPhone OS 1.1.4 anyway and low ram. I hope iPad Air gets more RAM. If so, I’m updating and I bet things will be better.

      • Dan

I do get safari crashes, but I haven’t had any system crashes, that may be tweak related. Safari is not though.

      • Kurt

It resprung whilst in safari. Maybe that’s not exactly a system crash?

      • Dan

I’ve only had the one where Safari blinks out and I get sent back to the home screen (app crash) on jailbroken and non jailbroken iPad. My iPhone/iPad have never resprung due to RAM, usually a tweak conflict. Not saying it’s not the case for you, but I doubt a whole system repspring would be RAM related (or maybe, what do I know lol).

      • Kurt

Yeah I and others on here have had both since 7.0 before a jailbreak was released. I’m pretty certain it was RAM related. I believe the reports saying low memory crash.but now that I’m jail broken, who knows what is causing it to respring. Maybe Apple fixed the respringing problem with an earlier firmware update at least that was the rumor back then.

      • I can vouch for this. My iPad 3 has resprung multiple times on iOS 8 when using Safari. Perhaps it’s the buggy OS, perhaps it’s Safari, or perhaps it’s just my iPad showing its age. Whatever it is the entire device should not be respringing just because a web browser crashes…

      • Kurt

Some days I have no problems. Other days like last night. I have multiple safari crashes. I had 4 I think, and one system respring. Today maybe I’ll have no problems. I get app crashing mostly on Safari which leads me to think it’s not written well. Same problems since 2007. Other apps give me some issues too. World Of Tanks crashes a lot. But no respring issues when using it. But again, are some of those crashing/respringing from jailbreaking? Very well could be.

      • Faris

I beleive the JB is the only reason of the crashing.

      • Niclas

Not true, I’ve had a few springboard crashes and a lot of Safari/other crashes (iPad AIR IOS 8.0.2). Fresh restore without backup.
But I’ve an advanced user using many functions available with about 350 apps, so I might get more crashes than average.

      • Dan

128GB is pretty good (what I have at home), I’d take RAM over storage.

A micro sd port would be awesome, but Apple will never allow it.

    • Fanboy 

Let me guess, and more megapixels too? Lol, we dont want to turn into android buddy. We don’t need paper specs.

      • Kurt

Yes we do want specs. You don’t speak for us iOS users.

      • Well certain specs not everything. We don’t need the highest spec sheet out there.

      • Kurt

Need and want are such interesting words. Want sure does feel like need, at least when convincing our wives we need a new device

      • That is the most common sense I’ve heard (read) from you so far lol.

      • Kurt

I can worship Apple too if you like?

      • No never worship any company they are all evil lol

      • Kurt

I know you’re joking but it is a pretty true statement. CEOs of multi international corporations are often times psychopaths. There’s been a few studies on it that you might want to check out. It explains a lot about Steve jobs. Mr wear the same cloths every day

      • I’m not joking why would anyone worship a company?

      • Guest

people on this site do…they have some love affair with steve jobs…some have a shrine to the idevices…ive seen their pix that they posted…and steve jobs in the middle.

      • Crazy.

      • Dan

If specs lead to better performance, I don’t see what the problem is. If Apple did it, wouldn’t be paper specs.

      • Faris

But it will lead to more cost, are you ready to offer the extra dollars?

      • Dan

The problem is, Apple will add a part that costs them 5$ and charge 100$ more.

  • Mohammed

True multitasking and 2GB of ram is enough for me.
    And maybe fast charging.

    • Matt Taylor

      You are very right

      • Tim Cook

        Will take that in consideration.

      • Kurt

        Hi buddy!

      • Matt Taylor

Why not add 3GB while you’re at it and an iPad specific version of iOS that’s more powerful with real multitasking! I was watching an interview on YouTube yesterday where top players were discussing various tablets and they were literally treating the iPad although it was a toy, that just couldn’t be productive… This is how a lot of people are clearly feeling about the iPad these days…

  • Mark

    Fake

  • James Gunaca

    My body is ready.

    But my wallet is not.

  • Rowan09

What about maps? I didn’t hear anything about including hop stop into maps.

  • Joel Torres ツ

Still wondering if Apple will release a new iPod touch. It seems logical, since it’s been 2 years. But, I also have doubts because of the iWatch. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  • andy

I’m wondering if there’s a possibility of apple producing one last Ipod touch 6th generation..since personally myself can’t afford an Iphone…

  • Nuno123

There will be upgrades to the MacBook line???

  • Luke

Steve I love you so, so much, but if Apple doesn’t change the icons and UI in iOS 9 I’m going to freak.

    • Harold

I love it! why in the hell would they change it!?

      • Luke

Because they should refresh their OS design once in a while so everything isn’t the same all the time like *cough cough* touchwiz//

  • Alan Smith

Great! iPad Bend-gate coming soon! lol iPad pro because it will have …. nothing new except maybe optical stabilization and the A8 chip? Maybe NFC but only for Apple Pay? I think I’m going to wait for the Oneplus one open source ubuntu phone. Holds a lot of promise and the size of the Note or the iPhone 6. I already have the iPad Air. I do hope they come out with a less expensive macbook as I do need a computer, would love a mac, but can’t afford their prices But I will tune in. 10AM PST I assume?

  • keynoteengine

well, visit us to watch the keynote @ KeynoteEngine blogspot com

  • Ahmad Danial

    2GB of RAM I suppose?

  • Guest

More RAM but will it bend?
