iphone 6 hands on

So you’ve watched Apple’s keynote, and you’ve been keeping up with the news today, but thus far you’ve only seen the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch from either afar or in marketing materials. Sure, the products look good in rendered photos, but what do they look like up close and personal?

Select journalists were given the chance to go hands on with the aforementioned products after the event today, and have posted videos of their initial reactions. So naturally, we’ve rounded up some of those clips of folks trying out the iPhone 6, Apple Pay and Apple Watch for you below.

Obviously these are just initial impressions, gleaned from a short amount of time with each product in a very controlled environment, so opinions could change in the coming weeks. Real world usage is a whole different ballgame—particularly for items like the Apple Pay service and Apple Watch.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus go on sale next week, and you can learn more about them here. Apple says it plans to launch Apple Pay by mid October here in the US; more on the service here. And finally, Apple Watch won’t be available until early 2015, but you can read more about it here.

  • Ваше Онтатиле Масвибилили

Just give me an iPhone 6 already

  • Indian Food

Apple Pay is my favorite feature. I mean, I know NFC for Apple is a little late, but I’ve watched other videos of NFC and it just takes too long/too much process to go through. I’m excited for it.

  • Kenrick Fernandes

Hi guys. I had been waiting for Sept 9th impatiently. And when it did arrive it was a mix of happiness and disappointment. I’m not sure if i’m the only one here but .. I was really looking forward to upgrade my iphone 5 to the 6. Even though apple release 2 variants i unfortunately don’t see this as a major upgrade. This is basically just a 5s with a NFC chip and a larger screen. With the roll out of the A8 processor i still don’t see this as a major upgrade to the the 5 or 5s. Besides i couldn’t even think of the 6 plus as it resembles a phablet and it would pose more inconvenience to me.
And if chinamobile specs which were leaked and turns out to be true then the 4.7 inch only has a 1860 battery. As it the battery on 5 and 5s is terrible and a 300 increase in battery isn’t really going to do any good.

    Is anyone else happy?

    • Indian Food

      Yes.

      • Chris Holden

wtf did u want? blood? apple pay, the best iphone yet, amazing battery life, appleWatch, so many new things, seriously sometimes i dont get people like you

      • Agru

        Sarcasm?

      • Kenrick Fernandes

I love when people like Chris holden says amazing battery life. As if he can justify it already. The battery on the 4.7 is 1860 mAh. only 300 more than the 5S. Yes that is amazing battery life. *insert sarcasm*

      • archer14

It already was good on the 5. The additional 300 is to support the 6’s size.

      • ishyg

No one can justify it at the moment, as we don’t have the phones yet. We’ve yet to know if the A8 is indeed quite optimized.

      • Technocrz!

        She is samsung troll

      • Jhonatan Kendall Del Rosario

no i dont get fanboys like u, i dont like android but lets be honest since iphone 5 apple didnt do any major upgrade i just use iphone case with the jailbreak its really come a real phone with real features, otherwise its crap, apple say: voice + lte: volte then people like u be like wwoooooowww . dafug is this apple didnt integrate nothing new since a long time just remake things already done and fan boys have a orgasm for that… 5 5s 6 camera its the same bullshit basically, niggaa!! stop please!! i cant say everything i want i a comment, get real! iphone is good but touch the reality is better, note 3 and iphone 5s best phone right now, s5 and iphone 6 its shit for this year
people just wanna be in the wave and looks cool

      • Rak S

LOL… Amazing battery life? Are you sure?
The Apple watch is rubbish to say the least and looks awful! A real missed opportunity!
And do you really think ApplePay is a good reason to buy either product?
These may be new, but that doesn’t mean they’re immune from criticism. I like apple products in general, but fanboys like you need to get their priorities straight!

      • Sean Finn

Again Chris you are an idiot and you dont even use facts in your arguments. Amazing battery life no iPhone has had an amazing battery life have you tested the iPhone 6???,Apple watch can only be used if you have an iphone so you would have to pay starting off €350 for a watch when your phone is just in your pocket its either the height of laziness or just poor stupidity. Your judgement is purely clouded my your love of apple state facts and dont berate people for expressing their opinion

      • Jack Wong

People just want to make them sound smart.

It is so easy to pick a bone from the chicken.

I wish those people can create another amazing smartphone.

    • Melvco

Serious question, what could Apple have done with the iPhone 6 that would’ve made you consider it a major upgrade?

      • Merman123

He just mentioned all the reasonable changes to upgrade and disregarded them as “disappointments.” I don’t understand what people want from their phones…

      • Kenrick Fernandes

Hi Merman. I use my 5 and i’m not at all happy with it. I love apple. But the battery life is crap. I often find myself charging it repeatedly even after i have got the phone replaced by apple. Even if apple didn’t upgrade anything and only upgraded the battery then i would still run to buy the new phone and embrace it openly. But the 6 is basically a just a 5s with nfc chip and a bigger battery.

      • archer14

If you need to keep re-charging that means you are over-reliant on the phone. Meaning it is on (in use either for whatsapp/fb) for nearly 3 hours or more a day. No phone can match that kind of heavy use. Temper your use and you’ll see that the phone easily lasts you a day. All benchmarks pointed out that the iPhone has a very strong battery. If it doesn’t meet your expectation even after swapping the phone, it means its been put under a lot of pressure. Get yourself a battery pack, you are their target audience.

      • Over-realiant on the phone? More like actually making use of it like a SmartPhone instead of a Nokia 3310…

      • archer14

Yes, if you have a life, you wouldn’t use your phone all day. If you can make use of your head, you’d know that a small battery can only carry a certain amount of juice before it runs out. Either re-charge it or get a battery case, no need to blame Apple for it.

      • Right, and who told Apple we want a small battery or a phone thinner than the iPhone 5? If you haven’t realised, no one asked for excess thinnovation, and if Apple ain’t gonna give us what we demand, they can expect to get blamed for their asinine attitude of being too big to listen.

      • kron1k 

Ok but disabling half the features of the phone to keep the battery going isn’t exactly extending the use of your Abdroid phone

      • I’m definite that’s an exaggeration, but keep on finding excuses for Apple…they need them.

      • Kenrick Fernandes

How am i over reliant on a phone. I love my phone. I want to look @ it. I want to play it. I want to text all the time. Right now i can’t even play games without going on airplane mode. I have to all the location features off just to save battery. Do you really think PEOPLE all over the world would have criticised for making the phone bigger or heavier. Look at what happened to the camera for pete sake. They tried to go smaller and then you get a protruding camera. Bravo! I would have been much delighted if the battery was over 2000+ and wouldn’t mind a fatter phone

      • Kenrick Fernandes

Also should i pay 60 G’s for an unlocked phone and not look @ it? Erm ok…

      • archer14

Can you understand English? Is your phone losing charge cuz you ‘look’ at it? If it does, you have other issues bro.

      • archer14

If you were using it ‘normally’ there would be a class action lawsuit by now on Apple. There isn’t one. Get over your heavy use and stop blaming Apple for it.

      • archer14

You don’t understand because you have no value for your money. If you did you would understand that this ‘incremental’ upgrade is nothing worth mentioning. Apple is an innovator and that is why we’ve stuck with them over the years.

      • Kenrick Fernandes

Yes i wish merman and melvco would just understand. If anyone had value for money, which clearly you and I and the rest of the other people here.. then they would know why i’m ranting. I say this again, I <3 apple. There's so much that could be done. But this iphone 6 is like a 5sS to me.

      • Rowan09

Aren’t all phone upgrades all sS upgrades now? For example the Note 2-4 is just a minor appearance tweak and adding new software while keeping it away from the older models. Your looking on paper and it would be better to use the phones first. The camera in the 5s is significantly better than the 5 and I would assume the 6 and definitely 6 Plus to also be significantly better than the 5s.

      • Kenrick Fernandes

A slightly better battery and reasonable upgrade to the camera would definitely make me a happy camper.

      • Merman123

        That’s EXACTLY what was added….

      • Kenrick Fernandes

Merman what was ‘exactly’ added. You really think they have upgraded the battery and camera? Come on man, you gotta be joking. How much have they increased tbhe battery. By 300 mAh. Really? That’s an upgrade for you? If the china mobile specs are to be believe then the 5s battery was at 1560 and the 4.7inch now is 1860 mAh. Wow that’s the biggest upgrade…. said no one ever.

      • Jhonatan Kendall Del Rosario

dont try they are blind, tim make it again, the magic of show another iphone like a great shit!! honestly i run phone jailbroken and with some tweaks and some setting i get a great battery life 2 days without charging and i use it all the long, btw he show the same camera and people act like if the add a new camera” nigga its just the same iphone 5 camera with faster focus”

      • Sean Cua

1080p 60 fps though and also 240 fps slo mo.

      • Kurt

1080p is old tech. 4K videos have a number of benefits. they couldn’t figure 4k out I guess.

      • Rowan09

Same camera because the pixel count is the same? I have a 5s and had the 5 and for my job with an advertising company I take pictures of signs on my 5s. The iPhone 5 camera is far inferior to the 5s, so this notion about raising a size to just brag about it is stupid. The camera has the same pixels, but it is not the same camera at all.

      • Rowan09

Why are you worrying about mAh when it’s just a small part of the story? The 5s gets better battery life over the 5 by about 2 hours. No matter what phone you get if you watch videos and play games all day it will die quickly and I have a Note 2 as well.

      • archer14

Yes EXACTLY 8MP camera since the iphone 5. God, you fanatics should be smacked in the face with a fish.

      • Tommy

Dude 8MP was since 4S. Think bout that. We’re all livin in the stone age.

      • David Hvilivitzki

The megapixel count does not a camera make, there’s a lot of other things that make a camera good or bad, for instance Sony just released their A7s camera that has only 12MP in comparison to their A7r which has 40MP,
other that pixel peeping there’s no real need for that many, they got much better low light performance with the 12MP camera reaching a workable ISO of 100,000 and up to 400,000.

      • Tommy

Lets see, for the 6, just 4 more would suffice.
        1. 1080p display (there IS a difference)
        2. Larger battery capacity (upgrade too puny)
        3. Higher resolution camera (yeah the software is great, but bumping up the spec sheet would be better)
        4. The antenna lines to be hidden (they’re fugly)

      • ishyg

        “Higher resolution camera”

Do you print anything you shoot? Because spec sheet and higher resolution does nothing to digital shots unless you zoom it or print it on a big format. It just makes the file bigger.

Other than that, yes I hate those lines as well. Awkward-looking.

      • Tommy

I understand. I do alot of cropping from 4:3 to 3:2. I’m guessing with extra resolution, I’d be able to get a higher quality image after cropping.

      • Sean Cua

        just buy a lumia 1020.

      • Kenrick Fernandes

Ofcorse Mega pixels help. Enough with the “do you printing anything”. People who do alot of cropping will surely benefit from this.

      • ishyg

Point taken, but you can mitigate cropping effects by taking the right shot from the get go.

      • Rak S

The design is decent, but hardly spectacular. That could have been improved.
The Antenna breaks still look pretty bad. That could have been improved.
The screen (by all accounts) is still the same glass as previous generations. That could have been improved.
The battery life will probably be similar to the iPhone5, which is passable, but nothing more. That could have been improved.

How many more do you want?

It’s a good phone, and much better than the poor attempt at a wearable, but tell me one thing about the phone that couldn’t be improved!?

      • ishyg

The A7-A8 performance gains. Other than that, I agree with you. I don’t think the iPhone’s battery life is terrible (this is subjective to experience, I think), but it could have been improved, yes.

      • ishyg

If the NFC is open for devs to play with and not tied with the payment system, that would be major.

Other than that, I’m still waiting for the analysis on the A8. I haven’t read up analysis for the A7 until June of this year, and I was blown away at what they did with that little chip.

    • Tommy

      Agree with you.
Same ppi screen, same camera, same battery, same RAM perhaps (still 1GB if not mistaken), and the list goes on.

    • Ishaan Malhotra

Couldnt agree more. Ill wait for another year and give iphone and specially the watch another chance or else its android

    • Chris

Me not happy at all was looking forward to upgrade but apple pay thing we’ll not going to work in uk for a long time apple are good like that. Battery no go what a load of rubbish A8 processor nope will be on par to iPhone 5s. Screen size is prob the best thing why won’t Apple think little bigger and better battery someone told me that they have kept 16gig and dun away with 32gig not sure but craft move by apply lol

    • Rowan09

The 5s performance wise is a big upgrade to the 5 so the 6 is even more of an upgrade. After using Touch ID I wouldn’t want an iPhone without one. This thing about the battery being horrible is overblown. The Note 3 gives 6 and a half hours according to Phone Arena of real usage and I get almost the same on my 5s with the same type of constant usage. Games takes up most of the battery life on these devices. The A8 is said to be optimized just like the Haswell chips improved battery performance, so battery capacity itself isn’t enough for battery efficiency.

    • DevXav

      I’m with you my friend..

As you could notice, the “big thing” on this presentation was Apple Watch, not iPhone.. Lets just say it’s just another beta iPhone (as iPhone 5 was).

They are a corporation, they want money.. How? Easy, launch a new breakthrough product (innovation or with new capabilities) and annihilate the old ways..
Here in Brazil, we have a common phrase saying “Heads will roll”, and in this case I can tell you, “Heads will Rollex”.
Just like old Nokia, Blackberry and etc, old style watches are now gonna have a hard time..

All I can advice you: Wait for iPhone 6S (always go for the S series, which are the non-beta devices).

    • kron1k 

So then if you upgraded from the 4 to the 5 wasn’t it just a bigger screen and basically the same phone with a bit bigger battery? You’re arguments are void of reasoning.

Btw I got the 6+ it’s going to great and it’s got a huge battery 🙂

  • @dongiuj

iPhone 6=ok, NFC payment system=7 years old tech, smartwatch=bwahahaha

  • HamptonWalley

So guys, Can I use the T-mobile contract-free iphone 6 with any carrier. (IS IT UNLOCKED?)

    • Guest

The real question is why would you want to sue an iPhone 6? jajaja

    • Rak S

It should be. That’s how it was with the 5S, but no concrete news yet.

  • Chris Holden

apple did it again, once again they’ve proved you dont have to be first (smart watch, NFC) u just have to do it right.

    • Agru

So the iwatch is “done right”?

      • Brian 

The design: Okay, acceptable. By far NOT impressive at all.

Software: HECK YES. This is the most feature rich smart watch I have seen to date. All the features you need, plus a lot of cool little gimmicks we will enjoy. Siri integration and WATERPROOF despite having a color display and microphone/speaker!

Functionality is definitely there. Good job Apple.

      • Agru

As long as it is a watch, its design is the most important thing. Aaaaand it sucks. Iphone 6 has a great design, so they do have good professionals. Where were they when this was done?

      • Kurt

Too confusing and too gimmicky. The crown is god awful

      • Jason Baroni

        Yes, it is.

      • Agru

        Oh god

      • @dongiuj

They all travel around on a bus together with the blinds down on the windows. It’s not their fault, they just really are ignorant and as the phrase goes, “ignorance is bliss”.

      • @dongiuj

Oh god here too. You’re so lame.

      • Jason Baroni

Since when it turned out about me? Sorry, missed that. And boy, you can’t even show yourself on a profile picture. Don’t go messing 😉

      • @dongiuj

Showing my photo on a here doesn’t change anything. “Don’t go messing”? Shut up and behave yourself.

      • Jason Baroni

hahahahaha You are a joke. But it’s ok, you know? If I were you I would be ashamed to show my face to the public too. To behave? Are you one of those people that think they own another people? Go treat your freaking inferiority complex before to try to troll someone on internet, homeboy.

      • @dongiuj

Sorry, didn’t understand anything you just said. Try it again in better English.

      • Jason Baroni

No need to hide, bro. I have nothing to hide, unless you make me some offers to pay my bills.

      • @dongiuj

        Sorry, don’t understand…again.

      • Jason Baroni

        Ok

      • Jason Baroni

Better English is troll language? I am so sorry if you misunderstand my words, I can’t help you with the proper education. There are another opinions you can troll over this blog. Try to bother another one.

      • @dongiuj

Yet again, I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.

      • Jason Baroni

        Ok 😉

      • @dongiuj

Maybe you should take your picture off then.

    • @dongiuj

      So NFC is done right?

      • Jon Nguy

Is there any other NFC implementation done right that exists right now?

(I’m just going to put this here since I think this may be your argument)
Android phones have had NFC for many years, yet Google nor any other provider partnered with companies to try to get it integrated into their systems. (But what about Google wallet! That’s the same thing!) Unfortunately, it’s not the same. Google’s implementation of Google wallet involves them handling every single transaction on their end. They give you a generated MasterCard credit card that you can use at other places, then they handle the transactions and then charge your card that you choose. Apple doesn’t do that indirect charge. (Also, you won’t be able to use Google wallet at Costco because Costco only takes American Express.)

      • @dongiuj

Can you honestly say that you know how it has been done in Japan since before smartphones without quickly looking it up on the internet right now?

      • Rak S

        Spot on!

    • Rak S

The watch looks awful and most of it’s functionality is just gimmicky. If you think that’s “done right,” you need to check yourself!

      • ishyg

This whole smartwatch thing is born out of gimmick anyways. Which would be the “right” smartwatch, then? We’ll never know for sure.

      • Rak S

Personally, I don’t see the health features as gimmicky. Apparently, the data they gather can be used to monitor your health, lower health insurance costs and help you improve your life in general. There’s a tangible life benefit there (if used correctly.)
Stuff like replying to an sms on your watch is gimmicky because it takes 2 seconds more to do it on your phone.
I’d buy an Apple “health band” which had all the heath features, but anyone with a half decent watch would be crazy to buy an ApleWatch, imo.

      • ishyg

And given the price point, it’s quite expensive. I’m with you on the health features, as they are few of my reasons for wanting to get one (another would be developing apps for the watch, if it’s possible).

I’ve shelled out $350 on a Vita before (packaged with all the stuff I need), so I can probably throw cash at Apple’s way too, but I’ll check first what the watch offers. I don’t really wear watches in the first place though, so it’s a hard sell on me.

      • Kurt

Sending buzzes is so gimmicky, and doodles ufff. Apple king of gimmicks

  • Christian Mejía

I was right two months ago!

        Thanks.!

    • Brian 

You really went back to screenshot this? Lol, congrats. You guessed at 1 of the 2 possibilities and got it right (“iTime” definitely was not considered).

      • Christian Mejía

Yes because everyone was calling it the iWatch and I was tired of that bs.

    • Rak S

      LOL… Well done 😉

  • Just perfect, But too big

  • Rak S

The “Watch” looks pretty bad. The health functionality is cool and I’d like to be able to buy a wristband that integrated with my iPhone, that included only that functionality.
I already have a very nice watch, and no sane person would wear two watches simultaneously, and all the app-stuff that’s running on it is just gimmicky…

  • Chris Longden

Ive been putting off buying any type of smart watch for sometime now… this does everything the other smart watches do but because its apple it will just work correctly with my iphone, so yeah ill be buying one for sure.

  • Straw hat

It’s really not as bad as people are thinking. Kind of reminds me of the time iPhone 5 was first announced and people thought it looked weird. i like the design, not bad at all! If i do buy a 6 i would get the space grey. have a white iPod touch 5g in white and it bores me.

  • Jonathan

I’m think of going for 6 plus. What about you?

    • AppleFanboy

That’s way too big for my pocket/hands. I will be going for the 4.7″ 64GB model. 😀

    • mlee19841

Just blows for the 6 regular. They have better features in the 6 plus. I wouldn’t mind having that bigger screen realestate

  • jaime boy

wasnt there a tweak on ios 6 that lets you rotate icons on the home screen???

    • Dri

      yes there was

    • Onyxus_Music

SbRotator I think it was called.

  • benny001

I love the iphone 6 very beautiful!! But i used to not like this design untill now!!! The way its presented is nice

  • totallymichael

Do we know the exact time preorders will go up on Friday?

  • mlee19841

The icons on the home screen. Can u add another row of them under the 5th row. Or does it just stay empty because they have that double click the home button to bring the interface down?

  • Dragoslav Zuber

I am very into technology and innovation therefore I like apple’s iPhones but the iPhone 6 is bullshit in my opinion. It costs $100 more in Canada…. When I bought my 5 it was $699 in Canada and the us then the iPhone 5s came out then the price stayed at $699 in canada for a while while in the us it was $649. Now it’s around $749 unlocked and $260 on contract here. Not to mention our minimum monthly rates of $75 a month only gets you 150mb. Canadians also have to pay 13% tax while in most states it’s around 4-6%. It is BULLSHIT! I’ll still probably buy it but in my opinion I think they should lower the price. I understand that they gave more memory in the second and third tier models but i still call bullshit.
