n56 product overview

A new report shared by French publication iGen reveals more information about the two iPhone 6 models Apple is set to announce next month. Based on details obtained from a source inside Foxconn, the report sheds more light about the weight, size, camera design, and battery of models N61 and N56, code names for the 4.7 and 5.5 inch iPhones respectively.

Size does matter

According to the report, Apple has been working on two different prototypes for model N56, but finally settled for prototype #2. Screenshots from Foxconn computers show the final dimensions of the 5.5 inch iPhone will be 158.07 x 77.79 x 7.10 mm. Adding to the thickness of the device is the camera lens protruding by 0.67 mm, which will bring the device to 7.77 mm at its thickest point. As for the weight, screenshots show that while prototype #1 was only 168.5 grams, prototype #2 is 184.6 grams. That’s a 10% weight difference that doesn’t have a confirmed explanation, but could be due to larger battery.

n56 n61 n51 cosmetic comparison

The smaller version of the iPhone 6 is pegged to measure 138.14 x 66.97 x 6.90 mm, but with a camera lens protruding by 0.77 mm, bringing the thickest point of the device to 7.67 mm. The weight of this model is unknown at this time.

For comparison, the iPhone 5s measures 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm, weighting a total of 112 grams. With that being said, and without taking into account the protruding camera, it appears both iPhone 6 models will be slightly thinner than the iPhone 5s.

A battery bigger than expected?

We’ve so far heard conflicting reports about the battery capacity of the iPhone 6, with 1,810 mAh, 2,100 mAh, and 2,915 mAh being rumored to equip Apple’s latest smartphones. While there is no specific confirmation, iGen claims that their source expects the battery of the 5.5 inch model to be over 2,915 mAh. If that is the case, could the 4.7 inch model sport the leaked 2,915 mAh battery? Your guess is as good as mine.

For comparison, the iPhone 5s has a 1,560 mAh battery, which is almost half the size of what the larger iPhone 6 could have. With battery life being a recurring complaint from iPhone users, and with Apple being under marketing attack from Samsung on this front, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Cupertino company finally make a big advancement in battery capacity.

While the production of both 4.7 and 5.5 inch devices started this week, certification tests were completed last week. According to iGen, Apple ordered 40 million units of the smaller version, and no less than 100 million units of the larger model over the next 12 months.

There currently is no price indication but some carriers who are already aware of the prices have reportedly cut back on accessory orders for the 5.5 inch device, in fear that the high price may turn potential buyers off.

N51 aka iPhone 5s to become the entry level

An interesting detail shared by iGen in regards to the iPhone 5s is that the device will still be part of the show on September 9, a date when Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone line. It will become the defacto entry level device, making us wonder what will happen to the “c” line.

Will Apple drop the c line completely? Despite encouraging sales numbers, this line could be reaching the end of the… line, and be replaced by the previous year’s model, the same way Apple used to do up until 2013 when it introduced the iPhone 5c and retired the iPhone 5.

More details

The meat of the report has been summed up above, but iGen does provide other crusty details that are worth adding here.

Apple has apparently shipped 28 containers of sapphire displays to Foxconn. While the rumors have gone wild as to what device may or may not sport the stronger and more expensive displays, there are still no real reliable information about this.

Despite what we’d heard about what some may refer to as the ugly antenna breaks not being part of the final design, it seems that the lines will indeed be part of the final product. While not esthetically appealing, they will play a great part in letting radio waves go through.

Finally, and still according to iGen’s source, Apple has reportedly been looking into using a 2.5 mm audio jack to replace the standard 3.5 mm jack. The goal would have been to make the devices even thinner, but cost, and maybe the probability of angering more than a few users, led Apple to drop the idea.

iGen is a reliable publication with a very good track record, and although everything should be taken with a grain of salt until Apple unveils the devices on September 9, we do put a lot of weight on this report.

I thought Apple was working on keeping leaks under wraps? A picture of a screen at Foxconn showing new iphone schematics?

    • Der Faust

lol……what if the leaks are ALL wrong?… i mean really wrong… lol…. my sources tell me the the iPhone 6 will have a 3.5in screen and will only come in pink with green accents! 🙂 I AM EXCITED!

      • Curtis Morales

        i want that!!

  • Virus

Need to get Jony Ive off the iOS design team and back onto the iPhone

    • Someshwar

      True, this design sucks!

      • Maxim∑

        every single year

        Before Announcement: the design sucks
        After: Wow this is amazing

      • Someshwar

Ha ha! Good one Maxim! But I won’t change my opinion if this is the final/production design.

      • Yeah what Maxim says makes no sense… If you think it looks ugly, the presentation aint going to do zip to change that..

Personally I’d like to see it ending up being this design since I just got a 5s

      • hush

        It’s not about the presentation…
I remember when the iPhone 5 design leaked… I hated it.. Literally. I though it was really ugly. When I saw the official release keynote I couldn’t believe the leaks turned out to be the real deal… But when I had the 5 in my hands for the first time I loved it and personally I think 5S Space Grey is the best looking device right now. People change their opinions.

      • I did not dislike the 5/5s on first sight nor the leaks really. But of course people can change their opinions but the OP is suggesting everyone is easily manipulated by Apple into liking something.

      • BoardDWorld

I kept my opinion with the iPhone 5/S glass windows. If those lines exist in the iPhone 6 my opinion won’t change either.

I love the all glass back mock ups. hmmm sapphire back panels, that would be gorgeous.

      • William Melendez

Lmao , you couldn’t say it any better !

      • Donovan

Nah I’ll probably just get used to it. But if the antenna breaks are that big, I’m buying the 5s instead.

      • Kurt

I still say iphone 5 design is ugly. and this is even worse. Best design is 4/4S hands down.

    • AJM

Well, he is head off all design teams, so the problem is certainly not “too little Ive”.
He has designed ugly hardware before. I just have to name translucent colorful iMacs. (reminds one of iOS 7, doesn’t it?)
Overall, the period of great Apple design lasted only a short time (about 2007 – 2012), where Jobs and Ive (or the member of his team who actually did the designs) collaborated in a good way. Let’s be grateful for that and move on.

    • Star Lord

      Damn, you’re right.

  • TJ

Looking at the screenshots the date is Feb 2014 so these could be very early prototypes and not at all what the finished product will look like.

    • Someshwar

      I really hope so!

    • Saeed Ghattas

      I think you are right!
I noticed the date too. Too early to give a factory a production ready product.
Let’s wait for the 9th of September and we will know what’s right or wrong from all these rumors.

  • Muhammad !

“Size matters” That makes me laugh out loud !!!! I see that on porn sites all the time lol

    • 4pp1e

than stop watching porn and find a girlfriend

      • Star Lord

It’s also a sin to have s** without marriage.

      • Muhammad !

        I stopped watching porn.. I don’t need a girlfriend …

      • Dan

hey hey hey, lets not lose our heads here, porn AND girlfriend, that’s the best combo

    • A’s Network

But you are a Muslim, right (your name is Muhammad)? And it is haram to watch porn, right?

      • Muhammad !

        Yeah it’s Haram… I stopped watching it anyway ^.^

      • Dan

      • Muhammad !

No I won’t watch it again … I used to watch it when I was 15-16, I was young and stupid… And maybe because of my friends who used to talk about that trash.. So I wanted to know what they were talking about …

    • benny001

I love ur name, peace be upon you brother, may الله (Allah) give you guidance and keep you stead-fast in islam. Amin.

      • Muhammad !

Thank you .. But you can’t say “peace be upon you” to me.. We only say it when it comes to our prophet (prophet Muhammad) , I’m named after him.. And Thank You again, that was so nice of you ^.^

      • Guest

why do you worship muhammad? If you don’t worship him, draw me a little picture of him. Oh you wont because you put him in the same place as your god.

      • Muhammad !

I don’t worship Muhammad (peace be upon him) … I worship Allah (God). It seems like you know nothing about Islam, I guess you better read about islam before talking trash 🙂

      • benny001

Thats completely opposite of what islam teaches. But that is somewhat what christianity teaches. Please use ur brain and research the basics on something

      • benny001

Aselamu aleykum is the greeting between one muslim to another, no?

      • Muhammad !

Al-slam Alaikum.. Yes, that’s our greeting between one Muslim to another 🙂

      • Muhammad !

Christianity is very close to my religion, but you don’t believe that Prophet Muhammad is the last prophet and we don’t believe that “Jesus” is God or god’s son, in my religion, “Jesus” is a prophet and he is still alive, the one they killed is not the real “Jesus”.. 🙂

      • benny001

I know that im Also a Muslim i submit my self to Allah (swt)

  • Linton Findlay

I’m unsure if il get the larger one. I can’t fit a note 3 in my jean pockets without feeling like it’s gonna snap

  • Topuz

I’m quite sure I see the power button on both top and the side of the device in the first picture. Camera button? O.o

    • AppleFanboy

At least now there is one less thing to be sad about.

  • Riley Freeman

personally dont care about sapphire or gorilla glass. I just want 128gb in the 4.7 model. I cant picture myself using the phablet and it doesnt help the iphone has such ridiculously high prices.
I dont get the logic of getting rid of the 32gb model and then having 12, 64 and 128 based on the report the other day. It makes a million times more sense to go 32gb, 64gb 128gb. 16gb is absolutely useless.
I have an ipad mini 16gb and a 64gb and thanks to itunes match i have over 20gb of free space on my iphone. before itunes match i had like 3-6gb of free space. My ipad mini has basically nothing in free space. I dont even use it for a lot of stuff and i have no room. I dont get how people use it for their main phone. They really should drop this model in favour of the 32gb at the smallest model. I am pretty sure it will not hurt the 200 billion plus they have in their bank account. They keep increasing how good these cameras are and pics take up large space and videos even more. People need more memory.
p.s. that 2.5 headphone jack would have been the death of apple right there. That would cancel out all beats headphones and all of their own. man oh man would people snap on them.

  • Jason Baroni

I do like the idea of a white design with the black antennas!

  • Straightshoota

Just give me back the 2 tone glass windowed rear. I thought I would hate it leading up to the realease of the iPhone 5 (with all the accurate leaks then.), but it is something that I really liked after seeing it for myself. Wish these horribly designed antenna breaks would just go away. Give me back the windows because those breaks just look ridiculously lazy especially for a company such as apple

  • Rowan09

With that size battery we should have a real all day iPhone. The headphone jack rumor would have been by far the dumbest move by Apple.

  • peterbreis

Sources say the iPad air will be rebadged as the iPhone 6a.

To satisfy the pent up demand for larger screens, matching Samsung’s offerings, Apple is working on a next gen iPhone reusing the screens from the iMac 27″. The stand on the iMac has been reworked into a nifty shoulder brace, accommodating two long life 24V lead acid batteries. This will give the “iPhone Majestic” 3 months battery life, or 27,000 kilometres, which ever comes first.

Volunteer Korean-Samsung-Executive focus groups have indicated retro 80’s style iPhone boom boxes could drive Apple back into the lead for smartphones, wrong-footing every other major phone manufacturer.

  • JayDee917

Those antenna lines are so ugly. This has to be the ugliest iPhone ever made. It’s worse than the original iPhone, I’d take a solid inch of plastic at the bottom instead of these hideous lines.

If so much plastic is needed, I wish they would have gone the iPad route and just had that quality-feeling black plastic tab on the top of the phone.

  • chris125

See if they quit worrying about being paper thin, they wouldn’t need to have the camera lens protrude… Not sure why apple is so hell bent on constantly making the device thinner. I have yet to hear anyone complain the iPhone is too thick.
If apple does stick the 2915 battery in the 4.7″ it will be amazing. Too bad with their previous history, don’t think it will get that large of a battery.

  • Tom

We need 128 gb as standard quad core prisxessor

  • n0ahcruz3

I guess the great Jony Ive ran out of ideas. This design is a step backward. This one is hands down ugly and that protruding camera, yikes. I wouldnt mind the protruding camera if its a Lumia or htc. But this is apple we’re talking about.

  • GuyWithTheThings

I have a feeling Steve is up watching down from above and shaking his head and facepalming…. As much as I like Apple, and as much as they have accomplished, they’re just not what they used to be IMO. I’m looking forward to something completely new. Steve took something and saw its potential. Now Apple seems to just be adding smaller and smaller features into things they already have…. If they took that liquid cooling and put it into their next laptops, added some crazy processing power, I could not be happier. I want the old Apple back…

  • DIesel

I can’t get over that ugly black/white stripe on the top rear by the camera. It throws off the entire design imo. Besides that I think it looks great

  • Juan Genao

When should we start seeing cases for the phone for sale?

  • DroidGuy360

    SNORE, great innovation apple!!!!
