AboutUDID is a relatively new jailbreak tweak that does something extremely useful for those of you who test beta software. It allows you to easily view the device’s UDID from the General > About section of the stock Settings app. This UDID, which stands for Unique Device Identifier, is a 40 character hex value that is used by developers for registering test devices for apps.

The UDID can easily be retrieved by connecting to iTunes or by downloading third-party applications, but this tweak makes it even easier. In fact, AboutUDID allows you to copy and paste values from a device’s About section, which makes sharing the ID with developers even more painless. Check out our video inside to see how it works.

Once you install AboutUDID, you’ll immediately notice the UDID value appear in Settings > General > About. This value, which appears wedged between the IMEI and the ICCID, can then be copied using a tap-and-hold gesture.

AboutUDID features no other settings or options to configure. You simply install it, and forget about it until the time comes when you need to share your UDID with a developer. As a side-note, even Cydia developers use the UDID from time to time when testing beta apps and tweaks.

What do you think? Would you consider using AboutUDID for easy UDID discovery on your iOS device? Sound off down below in the comments section.

  • Is the UDID still relevant? I though apps could no longer have access to it?

Perhaps not. However, it may be used when registering your device with a dev account, or in helping an iOS dev with something. I’m sure there’s other uses. I am rather surprised Apple didn’t include in stock Settings app, but that’s why there’s jailbreak. To use and for everyone to learn from each other.

Can’t you just see this at the bottom of cydia

Good thought, but this is just an example, say older people who can’t read small text? I know, but put reading glasses, but still. Settings app has the text larger.

i think people should not use cydia tweaks/apps for get udid. they should always use itunes to findout udid. i personally register udid to Apple Developer account on my website, i have got many people who gave me wrong udid cz they have used some apps to findout udid.
just to be on the safe site i think people should always use itunes or itools software only for getting the udid.
btw, if u would to register your udid for getting access to ios 8 beta then you can go to my website. thanks 🙂

btw, i am not against cydia tweaks, i love cydia tweaks but at few cases its better to stick with itunes rather than using any apps/tweaks.
