App Recap: 10 great apps for iPhone and iPad

First and foremost, I wish a Happy Canada Day to our Canadian readers. As a little history lesson for our neighbors to the south, Canada celebrates its birthday three days before the July 4th festivities in the United States. To celebrate, we have a great selection of 10 apps for iPhone and iPad to share with you. App Recap is a daily column that promotes the best new, updated and discounted apps on the App Store. New Apps

MTNMTN is a new ambient procedural mountain game that appears incredibly simple in nature. The game features no controls, but rather consists of things growing and dying as time moves forward. Your only task is to observe the mountain and let nature express itself, with over 50 hours of gameplay. MTN will run you 99 cents on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

Keep your mind sharp as you experience the almost magical feeling of dragging and combining colors, with three game modes and support for those who are color blind. Watercolors is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

Updated Apps

Yahoo MailYahoo Mail has been enhanced with news, search and snapshots of the weather, sports, scores, stocks, popular videos and Flickr photos. You can now create, edit and delete mail filters, and the app has received several performance enhancements and bug fixes to boot. The app is now at version 3.1.0. Yahoo Mail is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

VineVine is a popular Twitter-owned app that lets you create short looping videos and share them with friends and others. Today the app was updated to version 2.1.0 with several new features, including a loop counter for videos, a cleaner feed design, a redesigned activity section, bug fixes and other improvements. Vine is free on the App Store for iPhone.

Hay DayHay Day is another app that was recently updated with a new cotton crop, sewing machine, decoration filter, mystery treasure chests with great rewards in both your own town and friends’ towns, a new cowboy character, new town area decorations, new products in the Wheel of Fortune, a new mining tool and more. Hay Day is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

LinkyLinky is an app for posting links to Twitter, Facebook and App.net that this morning was updated to version 3.3 to allow posting to Facebook profiles and pages, with a single sign-on built into iOS. There is also shake-to-undo support in the compose screen, full support for 64-bit processors, cache resetting and more. Linky is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

On Sale Apps

CupPixel Cup Soccer is the perfect game to play as the Round of 16 unfolds in the World Cup. Better yet, thanks to a 3 Magic Shots promotion, the app is now free for a limited time. The pick-up-and-play, retro-style arcade soccer game has simple controls, 16 national teams to choose from, friendly matches and more. Pixel Cup Soccer is free for iPhone and iPad.

SkylandersActivision has discounted its highly popular Skylanders Battlegrounds from $6.99 to free for the first time since the game launched on the App Store in November 2012. Bring the Skylanders to life and free the war-torn Battlegrounds, facing off against Kaos’ evil Warlord Army. Skylanders Battlegrounds is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

ScanbScanbot is a PDF and QR code scanner, cloud upload and multi-page scanning app that has been discounted from $1.99 to 99 cents, its lowest price since going free in late May. The app lets you scan and process documents like invoices, receipts, business cards, tickets, notes, whiteboards, contracts and more. Scanbot is 99 cents on the App Store while on sale.

GodfireGodfire is a new game that has been discounted for the first time, going from $6.99 to $4.99. The app features vicious combat against multiple enemies, epic boss battles, free exploration, next-generation graphics, survival mode, responsive controls, endless customization, achievements and more. Godfire is $4.99 on the App Store for iPhone and iPad while on sale.

I personally recommend taking advantage of the Pixel Cup Soccer sale as we continue to experience World Cup fever.     imo Godfire sucks, most likely the reason the price is lowered (check out the reviews on itunes).

    No real free roaming, the action sequences lag even on iphone 5S and iPad air, repetitive gameplay. I’d advise against it.

    Scanbot is great though, got it when it was 1.99 and don’t regret it.
