Pangu Mac

Pangu for the Mac was just released today, and it brings with it the ability to jailbreak iOS 7.1.x untethered. The Windows version, which was released last week to much fanfare, has already allowed many people to enjoy the fruits of jailbreaking iOS.

I think it’s safe to say that the Mac version has been highly anticipated since word of Pangu first hit the Internet. For those of you who remained patient, your patience has paid off. You can now jailbreak iOS 7.1 and iOS 7.1.1 using your Mac. Check our our full video walkthrough inside for all of the details.

The Pangu jailbreak should work with the following devices: iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th gen, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina Display.

How to jailbreak iOS 7.1.x with Pangu for Mac OS X

Step 1: Download the latest version of Pangu for Mac OS X from our downloads page

Step 2: Plug your iOS 7.1.x device in to your computer’s USB port

Step 3: Open Pangu.dmg on your Mac and double click the Pangu icon to run the app

Step 4: Once your device is detected by the app, click the Start Jailbreak button

Step 5: Pangu will ask you to go to Settings > General > Date & Time and disable the Set Automatically toggle. You will then need to set the date to June 2, 2014

Step 6: Once the date is set, the jailbreak process will start automatically. Eventually Pangu will ask you to open the Pangu app icon on the Home screen. Tap the Pangu icon to launch the Pangu app and tap the Continue button

Step 7: Wait patiently, and the jailbreak will continue process. You will be asked to unlock your device after it reboots

Step 8: Once the jailbreak is completed, you should see Cydia on your Home screen

Congratulations. You now have an untethered jailbreak on iOS 7.1.x using your Mac. Pangu should automatically set your date setting in Settings > General > Date & Time back to Set Automatically

Be sure to follow our video tutorial above for complete step-by-step instructions

Seems like they removed the checkbox for 25pp for the mac!! Now that’s good!

    • Lucus Bendzsa

      i want it back

  • Nayan Rahman

double clicking the Pangu icon to run the app is just blinking but the actual app is not opening. My OS 10.9.3 MBP 2010

    • Jay N Patel

use chrome to download pangu. worked for me

      • Nayan Rahman

Thanks. yes after downloaded with chrome its working.

    • Siddharth Desai

Download from Pangu website instead of iDB or else use Chrome like Jay suggested.

  • Sachin

Does anyone having this problem? I am unable to download Pangu.

    • Rowan09

Go to the website instead of IDB or use Chrome as suggested up top.

  • Miguel Alcibar

  • JustMeJip2

    i want tweaks compatible 100% with 7.1.1 🙁

    • mlee19841

Check the idb website. A couple postings back they post tweaks that are compatible.

      • JustMeJip2

compatible yeah but all buggie sometimes 🙁

  • Rick Hart

Don’t forget to disable password, and it also seemed to pick up y iPad wirelessly anybody know about that?

    • Ali Catsron

Since the iPad can sync wirelessly, it can be detected through the iTunes systems.

  • Philip Lafaurie

i’ve removed the passcode on my iPhone yet it keeps timing out when it reboot the first time. =[

PS. I’m running this on 10.10 (14A261i) beta

    • Adel Ali

      Me too, what happened

    • Casey Pearson

Same here… just seems to timeout every time after the first reboot. 🙁 Any ideas?

    • Philip Lafaurie

So It seems that you have to delete the pangu app every time you retry or it will fail. I tried it 5 times after the first attempt and figured that out and it worked right after.

    • There is a glitch for some reason…
Put a light on your iPhone’s light sensor and should boot fine

  • sgchan

does anyone know what the dump cache’s failed is? It keeps popping up

    • sgchan

      does anyone have this problem?

    • joey

yes!, i do and im still looking for an answer so tell me if you find one.

      • Vlajko

        same here. ipad 2 7.1.2

    • Brent Nedella

Not sure, but I tried it again and again with this error, then I tried a few things until it finally completed correctly. iPhone 5s running 7.1 with Pangu running on Mac OsX 10.9.4. Things I tried were to turn off passcode/TouchID, force-close and reopen Pangu, and force-close iTunes before the jailbreak was running and during (because it was set to open automatically once the iPhone was plugged in). It worked on the 3rd try this way.

  • Anmol Malhotra

      Here’s the pic

      • Leever

What the heck.. Did it say cleaning up at the end?

      • Isn’t it possible to delete the icon?
        (Just asking)

    • Anmol Malhotra

      • Chih-yu Chueh

Well…try AppHide, it hides app icons for you. But I recommend you to reset and jailbreak your phone again.

  • Kunal Aggarwal

Umm.. I just used this to jailbreak my iPad Air on iOS 7.1.1 using the Mac app.
All went well till it asked me to open the pangu app on my iPad. After I opened it, my iPad rebooted and the pangu app showed cleaning up and then “quit unexpectedly”. iPad rebooted again, came to the pangu boot screen, and now I do not have any cydia icon on the iPad. Restarting the pangu app shows, already jailbroken. Rebooted iPad manually too. What to do? 🙁

    • Lucus Bendzsa

same here reset all settings helped

      • Kunal Aggarwal

        Nope, still nothing! :'(

  • Al

Since you have done your past 2 videos jailbreaking with the iPod Touch, I assume you are going to stay with the iOS 8 betas on your iPhone 5s… Do you actually prefer the iOS 8 betas over jailbroken iOS 7.1.1?

  • bllackghost

do i need to clean restore before the jailbreak ?!

  • No sotro también síguimos a idownloadBlog

  • GThomas

i found the fastest way to make this work is 1) do a complete restore of 7.1.1 in itunes but do not restore from a backup, go completely stock. 2) download pangu using anything other than safari, chrome worked best. 3) hold down control and right-click on the pangu application and select OPEN. 4) once jailbreak is done, sync w/itunes to get your apps, pics and music back. When i went this route the jailbreak was super fast! so glad to have bitesms back on my phone as the ios 8 beta was just too buggy for me. Good luck!

  • Every time I do it, it keeps saying Jailbreak timed out.

    • Casey Pearson

      same here…

      • to be honest I have no idea what i did wrong.

    • theshadowsnake

I’m having the same problem as well…

      • it works now. The problem I found was with the download file, the one in the IDB page don’t work (for me).
I downloaded from Pangu’s page and it worked.
Try restoring your device(to stock) after backing it up.

      • theshadowsnake

yeah I downloaded it from pangu too, so guess I’m gonna have to restore it now urghhh thanks for the info

  • LoiZz

NO app on my Iphone still checked the date and tried to download with chrome but nooooo icon on my PHONE!!!

  • LoiZz

    please help

  • This is why I prefer Evasion…..
But I have no one to blame but myself.

  • Alex Brujo

my jailbreak process completes but i dont get the cydia app logo?

    • Jamie

I was having the same problem. I just updated and didn’t do the new restore. I had to jailbreak like 6 times. At first it said could not detect reboot and then when it did no Cydia app. I just kept doing it and eventually it worked. It look 6 or 7 times though.

    • Rot Kelfer

      same problem… oh well

  • Javian

It gives me the “Check caches failed” error every time. My phone doesn’t even reboot. I have an iPhone 5s on the sprint network running iOS 7.1.1

    • isabella

close your iTunes and try again – worked for me 🙂

  • AnArcticMonkey

I was going to wait until 7.1.2 to jailbreak, but the countless number of issues people are having makes me want to skip it all together…especially the whole sandbox issue that hasn’t gone away.

  • mike

You guys should really mention that the Pangu app appears on the /last page/ of your homescreen. I tried jailbreaking my iPad yesterday and the process kept timing out, without the app ever appearing.
If you only have one page of apps, (like most freshly restored devices), you’ll need to move an app to the second page so the Pangu app can be accessed. Otherwise the process will stop halfway through and timeout.

  • Charlie DuHadway

i left my iPhone 4s to itself after tapping the pangu icon during jailbreak and when i checked it i got a red message saying “jailbreak time-out”. ????? what happened?

  • Ducci

I’ve just done the Pangu JB and all went well, but after it’s done I didn’t get the Cydia app on my homescreen. Anyone else have this problem?

    • Jamie

I had to jailbreak my phone like 6 or 7 times. At first it would not detect reboot and then it did and said done and no Cydia app. The next time same thing but then the last time it was a success! The Cydia app was there. It rebooted many times for me probably 3 each time showing the pang screen and I think after the 3rd reboot it was done. Now everything works.

    • NoName

I had the same problem and I restored my iPhone as a new iPhone and it finally worked!

  • GuyWithTheThings

There’s a weird glitch with my Newsstand. I tried to use Springtomize 3 to hide it, but that doesn’t work. Every time I open Newsstand and then open the Switcher, it doesn’t show up. When I am in the app itself and open the Switcher, Newsstand replaces the home screen card… What advice do any of you have?

    • mondo

springtomize 3 may need updating, i can’t hide newstand or statusbar items with it, and my folders disappear after every respring

  • Peter

Any suggestions on the most reliable way to either restore all data after updating & rejailbreaking or at least make sure all data gets backed up? iTunes doesn’t back up “everything” and I’ve never had a good experience with the $10 I spent on PKGBackup. I find it extremely complicated though I am trying it again. Anyone have a solid workflow? Thanks

  • Jonathan T Budge

Ive tried this many times but cydia doesn’t load on my iphone

  • Thomas McNeill Jr.

    it isnt detecting my device!!!!!

    • Jonathan T Budge

I just got it to work finally…I had to restore my iphone and set it up as new without the back up…then followed the steps on pangu..

      • Thomas McNeill Jr.

        It still isnt working!

      • Jonathan T Budge

Delete the pangu app on the iphone and power off and back on the phone. Then try again? I did that as well..

      • Jonathan T Budge

make sure the date is on june 2nd again too. Had to put that set again

  • Gianluca

I have been lucky! From iOS 7.0.6 to 7.1.1 with a clean installation setting it up as new, then I’ve restored from my last backup using iTunes. At that point I’ve decided to leave my iPhone 5s clean, without the jailbrake… but there are three or four tweaks that I love too much… so I’ve tried Pangu… and I also forgot to remove the access code… 10 minutes and Cydia app is on my springboard again.

I don’t know if I can help because it seems to me that I haven’t done nothing special.

  • noel lamarche

  • Vanilladub

PLEASE HELP ME!!! I’ve followed all the steps and i’m stuck with this pangu app and no Cydia. Grrr this is the hardest jailbreak ever

  • Rory McLeod

I call BS! Pangu jailbreak left my iPad 2 in restore mode after multiple tries. Thanks, Pangu but tighten up your game before you release poorly tested software!!! Keep at it, I am an avid supporter

  • seesharp

It would be nice if you also showed how to do this if you were already jailbroken. Do i need to erase the entire phone first?

Most likely you have to set your Security Settings to open third party applications. On your Mac, go to Settings/Security & Privacy/General and make sure you have the Anywhere button checked on Allow apps downloaded from:

how and where to download app sync for iOS 7.1.2 ?

  • Rabbit

First off, they tell you to not have a lockscreen AFTER IT’S TOO LATE!
My phone is now stuck in a constant loop between the black loading screen with the apple logo and then Pangu logo.
Does anybody know how to fix this? It’s been doing it for hours now and I haven’t been able to access my phone

Bought an iPad mini retina, updated 7.1.2 and JB with Pangu 1.1, no issues at all. As expected, some tweaks were buggy or non functional but not real issues. Yes, I did get tons of sandbox error on the logs, but I don’t see anything funny functionally, not exactly sure what these errors translate to functionally… I decided to return the iPad an got another one (32GB wifi mini retina), luckily, it came with 7.0.4 and very happy with evasion jailbreak.

  • Joe Azathoth

I cant seem to “purchase” items as I normally can after jailbreak. When I click “cancel” to :”confirm” the purchase, nothing happens. Help.

  • MisterC

It’s reading my old iPhone 4 7.1.2, figured I’d test this out on that older device, The app downloaded fine. Ran into an initial issue of “Does not support this version of iPad” (That was solved by going into iTunes and turning off that device synced via WiFi.) Running the app, “installing the batches,” When the iPhone reboots, the Pangu app says “waiting for response..”..the phone does take a tad longer to boot up. Then I get a red message “Pangu Timedout” I get the lock screen – no passcode about 15 seconds after that, Pangu icon is still there, no Cydia. UGH! Tried this 3 times now. Cool program, but if I can get it to stop timing out and let the phone boot. I think I’d be ok.

  • Flau

It’s frozen at “injecting bundles”… I may have opened the app on the iPhone before the Macbook app told me to… Now the whole thing is frozen ='( What do I do? =@
