Apple posts video of “The New Look of OS X Yosemite”

By , Jun 9, 2014

If you’ve already watched the WWDC 2014 keynote, then you won’t see anything new here, but for those of you who haven’t, Apple just published the Yosemite design video it showed last week. Titled “The New Look of OS X Yosemite,” this short video puts the spotlight on Yosemite’s new buttons, font type, icons, use of translucency, as well various other visual elements of OS X Yosemite.

What’s the expected date for a stable build of Yosemite?

    • ✪ aidan harris ✪

Probably sometime in the fall at the same time that iOS 8 is released…

  • Mark Babatunde

It’s so beautiful! Yosemite is a great update to Mavericks. Can’t wait to have it on my Mac Mini

    • rockdude094

I swear Linux made something like this like 12 years ago..

  • James Gunaca

    Gimme the public beta, Apple!

    • Marcus

I know, right? I saw that video Jeff did on how to put Yosemite on a separate partition and was bummed out about how Apple still hasn’t sent me an email with my code :(

      • Chris

The public beta isn’t open yet and most likely won’t be for a month or two

      • James Gunaca

Yeah, I know. Probably July at the earliest.

      • Marcus

I didn’t realize that, I thought they would send it to me like the next day or something :(

      • Chris

You need to be part of the developer program which is $99 p/y if you want to try it now, even that takes 1 day before you’re approved

      • Marcus

Yeah I know all about that. I don’t have the money for that though, I can’t even code lol. I’ll just wait until that public beta is released or until the fall.

    • Jamie Tilden

Just find a torrented copy of it somewhere and install it! It’s that easy.

      • James Gunaca

I don’t think the DP1 is going to be as stable and feature rich as the Public Beta once it’s out, so I’m waiting.

      • rockdude094

off they would’ve improved it by then. Its still pretty stable as of yet.

    • rockdude094

come to the dark side and torrent it :P

      • James Gunaca

I am getting pretty anxious..and all of a sudden Mavericks looks very much dated after I’ve spent time looking at Yosemite! I’m no stranger to torrenting, so I just may do it. I’ll probably put it on an old MacBook first, but I’m in no immediate rush.

      • James Gunaca

Ok, I broke down. Partitioned my Macbook and installed it today. Glad I didn’t do an upgrade because it’s buggy as hell. Looks great; would love to try more of the Continuity features but I’m not willing to lose my 7.0.6 JB on my 5S. Maybe in a few more Betas!

  • MrDnQ

I installed it the moment it became available on my developers account. I received a redeem code. Yosemite rocks hard, best release ever. Love the flat design and all of its newbies. Thanks Apple

    • Jamie Tilden

Yeah it’s pretty great. As with all initial developer previews, it’s clunky and buggy, but totally worth it because the UI makes up for it. Can’t wait for DP 2 and so on; it’ll only get better and better!

Is the finder really that happy looking now?

    • ✪ aidan harris ✪

      Yes it is…

  • angry3

I passed on updating to Mavericks but I am definitely going to Yosemite

    • nrubin29

      Why did you skip Mavericks?

  • Alberto Espinal

    Just beautiful

  • Jonathan

    Manly tears. Manly tears everywhere.

  • Foellarbear

    Can’t wait much longer!!!!

  • ✪ aidan harris ✪

So change it! This is OS X we’re talking about not some locked down iOS…

    • WIndows OS

They had changed it. Notice the screenshots at Apple’s website contains a better Finder icon which looks more like the current one.

      • Jamie Tilden

I’m not sure if it’s better but the current one looks way too happy.

  • nrubin29

I’ve been waiting to get a copy of this video since I first saw it presented at WWDC. Now it’s my Mac’s screen saver.

  • Chris

I’ve been running OS X Yosemite since last Saturday night and it’s as smooth and eloquent as Apple said it would be, at this point it feels like a stable OS except for Safari which seems to freeze of crash when changing the bookmarks but apart from that it’s currently set as my startup disk.

That 3D Effect Of The App Opening In The Last 15 Seconds

    • Chris

At this point in time they are still very much there

      • Di DON DEH YAH

Well it’s A Good Look Then

  • Ryan Gehret

I do not like the Finder icon in Yosemite currently. I like the one on Apple’s site. I hope they change it to that for the final release.

  • Okhoo

WOW NO APPLE LOGO AT THE END OF THE VIDEO???

  • Will Parry

What is the music? I hope it is available on iTunes…
