iPhone 6 (batteries on production tray, NowhereElse.fr 001)

Another day, another iPhone 6 leak. Two separate reports Tuesday claim to show what seem to be iPhone 6 components in a production setting. The first set shows off a genuine looking front panel part, depicting the size difference between the current four-inch form factor and the upcoming iPhone 6, said to come in 4.7 and 5.5-inch flavors.

The other purported leak depicts some sort of batteries on a production tray that appear to share more than a passing resemblance to other iPhone batteries.

I’ve included the photographs below the fold so give them a look and tell us what you think in the comments…

The image top of post, which came via French blog NowhereElse.fr [Google translate], suggests these could be larger batteries for the upcoming iPhones. The blog spotted a modified metallic section on the batteries.

We’re not sure what to make of this minor design change other than that the layout of the handset’s interior has changed from the current form factor.

DigiTimes last month said Apple would be moving to automated production lines for iPhone 6 batteries, potentially giving Apple a chance to move manufacturing to wherever it likes down the road.

Longer battery life was the #1 request by early iPhone 5 adopters, according to Apple’s internal memo used in the second California trial against Samsung.

A form factor change gives Apple’s engineers more room to put a bigger battery inside to power that larger screen, but it’s unclear at this stage whether battery life will be improved as a result.

The photographs below were first posted on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo and reposted by French blog iPhon.fr [Google translate]. This is what a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 should feel like in one’s hand versus the four-inch iPhone 5. The larger device appears to have the same screen ratio as the iPhone 5.

The image looks legitimate as the cutouts for the Home button, FaceTime camera, ambient light sensor and ear speaker are in the right places, at least compared to the current design.

One thing is not the same, however…

Notice a much thinner bezel?

A sketchy report by The Korea Herald said Apple’s next iPhone would have a “bezel-free display” using a single-layered panel (versus four panels currently) that would allow for a thinner device, clearer images and improved energy efficiency.

The rumors, alleged iPhone 6 cases and Apple’s supposed 2014 roadmap all point to a Fall release of at least one handsets, with the larger-screened model reportedly delayed until year-end due to difficulties with in-cell production tech for the larger 5.5-inch size.

Would you prefer a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 over a 5.5-inch one?

  • Rak S

The bezel doesn’t look that much thinner to me. Difficult to tell without seeing how the glass fits into the housing though.

    • édith Dupont

And it looks too big !

      • Spencer Hutchins

        Its no bigger than samsung

      • édith Dupont

Does it always have to be about samsung

    • Pentach Vega Iron came out in 2012 with no side bezels. It’s stunning. It can be done, has been done and should be done on the iPhone. Would look beautiful!

  • Ben Thorne

Clip your finger nails Korean guy! blech… lol

    • f1ght3r

      It could be a woman

      • Messiah

Nope, it’s a man, I got hand job all the time so I would know if it was a woman’s hand.

      • ogtw

this is not reddit, go away

      • f1ght3r

So you don’t cut your finger nails either then?

    • 12345678

btw. the guy is chinese (read it carefully)

      • Ben Thorne

I just read the “Korean Herald” and thought that’s where the picture was taken. Sorry.

        Either way… gross fingernails.

  • JulianZH

hope they increase the capacity of the battery.

  • Jason Baroni

No more 16Gb, please. Hit me with a 128GB phablet so I can really get pro with my phone.

    • XboxOne

      then expect to pay up!

      • Jason Baroni

I have already expected because of the bigger screen.

    • 16gb was great for 2007. My phone doesn’t come in 16gb, only 32gb and up. I want to see Apple do the same. But I’m not holding my breath.

      • Jason Baroni

Yes, indeed. I could only dream of having an iPhone back in 2007 Now they have me, but I am hungry for battery and storage lol

  • n0ahcruz3

Looks magical! 😛 samsung wont be copying this! Lol

    • felixtaf

      lol.. They dont have to.

      • you mean, they don’t need to?! 😛

      • felixtaf

That depends on whats new in next iPhoneApple ;). For size, Samsung started to release big screen phones years ago.
For now Apple is catching up on Samsung with its new healthbook app. (While having the upper hand in Touch ID and sys optimization)

  • Mustang5Oh

    I’m currently drooling for a 4.7″ iPhone 6!!!

    • ProfessorX1®

      Just buy a Nexus 5.

      • Jonathan

        *Just buy a Junkus 5.

      • Abhijeet Gupta

hahhaha, i would rather go for HTC One M8

      • ProfessorX1®

You obviously have never held a Nexus 5 in your hand.

      • Abhijeet Gupta

i have used, plastic phones dont attract me anymore, i prefer to buy premium and excellently crafted aluminum phones, and now based on your shit, please dont ask me buy Samsung S5 , correction Shamesung S5, and i never said that Nexus 5 is not good.

      • grumpyfuzz

Do you really think the Nexus 5 is junk? It’s not…

      • Jonathan

      • grumpyfuzz

Yes. “The New Smart Phone from Google” Not junk. 😀

      • Jonathan

But it’s still Android. Stock Android, which is better than Samsung’s Android, but it’s still Android.

      • ProfessorX1®

How does android suck? So you’re telling me that iOS is perfect?

      • Jonathan

Never said that. I just don’t like Android, and a lot of other people don’t either.

      • Angela Cleveland

I have to agree with ProfessorX1. Good day robot.

      • ProfessorX1®

You must be f*cking stupid if you think that the Nexus 5 is a piece of junk. Its not a Crapsung and doesn’t run a bloatware OS. You must be a die hard fanboy.

  • 12345678

A bigger screen is great, but I don’t think apple will be increasing the screen size as big as 4.7 or 5.5.

  • felixtaf

    iPhone 6 – Checked
    Big Screen – Checked
    Big Battery – ******
    Full HD – ******
    8MP – 1/2 checked

    • Fredric Kanngard

Gotta say im deeply disappointed so far with everything about the iPhone 6. Most of it seemed promising at the beginning but after this front panel leak, gotta say im switching this year if this is the final version.

      • ogtw

you do know that so far there’s nothing we know for sure about the iPhone 6 right? why are you even talking about ‘final version’?

      • Fredric Kanngard

Yeah of course, but this is about the same time every year that parts starts leaking. IF this front panel is legit, im disappointed. Just my personal opinion. I expected more from Apple than a scaled up version of an iPhone 5.

      • Besides color, the front of the iphone is 100% exactly the same since 2007 besides making it longer with the introduction of the iPhone 5. Unfortunately you can’t expect something different.

      • They need to do away with the huge top and bottom portion. Now with the touch ID, that makes it more difficult. The phone needs to be symmetrical and I don’t see Apple making it smaller or making it oval (which if they can they should).

      • ProfessorX1®

Apple should just get rid of the rectangular speaker and replace it with a circular design. Also they should remove the Touch ID’s ring and imbedd a fingerprint sensor into the bottom bezel. Bam.

  • Robel Woudneh

    So far i’m disappointed.

  • n0ahcruz3

    So glad i skipped 5/5s!

    • XboxOne

      proud iPhone 4 owner?

      • n0ahcruz3

4s>motoG not impressed with 5 and 5s so i bought moto G satisfied so far, but i need an ios phone and this one i might get just waiting on battery capacity/life before jumping in.

      • Which one are you eyeing? 4.7″ or 5.5″?

      • n0ahcruz3

I dont know yet. If both were unveiled and if both have amazing battery life based on consumer feedbacks and tech reviews, then i might buy the 5.5″. That way i dont have to buy an ipad.

  • mav3rick

Claimed to be priced $100 higher, too…

    • gary

Where do you get this? Don’t spread rumors.

      • mav3rick

“Our checks indicate Apple has started negotiating with carriers on a $100 iPhone 6 price increase. The initial response has been no, but there seems to be an admission that there is no other game-changing device this year.”
        Misek – Jefferies

Is this post not also based on a rumor?

  • Juan Genao

    Not interested in the 5.5

  • Kyle Adams

  • ProfessorX1®

Why does iDB keep pushing out these rumor posts? They are all the same. Big screen. Big screen? Big screen coming? Push out posts worth reading.

    • chris125

      all about the page hits.

      • Vckmkr

Rumours, on mass, some must be true? lol, veritable little rumour mill here, but it part of the whole “game”
Njoi or find more suitable elswhere, less ur chinese this is most likely where western ppl get the most solid i-Related news (rumours are news btw)

    • Jonathan

It is worth reading. Besides, the more rumors that are extremely close in relation (4.7 inch, and other features) it will most likely be true. So, if iDb only posted one and that’s it, a lot of people would think that’s the only rumor, making them think it’s fake. If there’s a lot that say the same, then it’s most likely true, increasing hope, and readers.

    • gittlopctbi

      Well…you read the article.

    • Ron Rainz

Why wouldn’t they, or rather – why shouldn’t they?
This is an Apple-Centric blog, is it not?
What would you like them to do – post flappy-bird tutorials, tweak reviews and other Apple related stuff whilst the entire blogosphere is pumping out Apple rumors?

Think about it – they don’t have a choice.

      And to @chris125:disqus – Well… aren’t we cynical?
Page hits mean absolutely nothing, since online advertising clicks and refreshes are worth chump change.

Bottom line, like @Flaminghorse:disqus said: Its worth reading.
And if you really hate the Apple rumor mill so much, you can always just skip these type of posts, and that’ll be the end of it.

      • Vckmkr

Here Here 😉 well put, some ppl forget that when it comes to delivering constant, consistent content, they do not have the same range of subjects to cover as, say, a Daily World News blig does & even if you have a massive pool of subject matter, finding the time, will & energy to do this every day religously for no money, its still difficult on many levels, regardless of who you like or dont like staff wise. Suck it up for what its worth, you often get an education just in the comments sections here, so even if they get some things wrong, so what, like what above says, news is driven by events, which reporters have no choice in

  • chris125

As long as the home button is there, you will always have that huge top and bottom bezel, because there is only so much you can shrink and still have room for that button.

    • The Post

that is, if they want to keep symetry

  • Batman

    No! Dat Bezel

  • Khabibulin_04

Bezel is huge, no Effing way that’s real!

  • Eni

i dont think so, you know why? becose apple it’s not going to do the same error again with those big bezels

  • Bobdole

i m just geussing/speculating, but this rumored iphone 6 seems to be really big…
Maybe i m just imagining things… but it looks as big as competitors’ 5inches phones…

  • A form factor change gives Apple’s engineers more room to put a bigger
battery inside to power that larger screen, but it’s unclear at this
stage whether battery life will be improved as a result.

Galaxy Note series answers that question. Yes larger battery will power the larger display, all the extra pixels and give a great deal of extra juice. The next iPhone is going to have amazing battery life!

    • Unless Apple takes the excess-thinnovation route again…

  • Tobias9413

I just hope the price atleast for the 4.7 stays around the same as the price range of the 5S

  • Vagelis Rekoumis

    maybe it is 3D printed

  • Рон Джамин

No thank you. Too big. If I wanted an iPad mini, I would buy an iPad mini

  • Brandon Miranda

Hold on a minute. Notice the change in placement of front camera? Back to where it used to be on iPhone 4/s. That or the camera hole is getting smaller and the sensor hole is clear. Fishy.

    • Guest

Thinner bezel and too little space for the camera above the speaker, maybe.

      • Brandon Miranda

That makes a lot of sense. I’m not looking forward to the offset in video recording since the camera is not centered. Man this is saddening. I guess for a every leap theres a trip.

  • ‘Cause they don’t have pu**y hands, or they just want bigger detail on the screen, or they want more detail on the screen, etc. It’s called personal preference…

  • JL

Ive been an iphone user since 2007 and sincerely.. i dont regret have moved to android(Samsung Galaxy Note 3).. Sooo Far The Best phablet right now.. im still using apple products but not smartphones anymore. apple just keep holding technologies and preventing people to have access to it when they Are (THE CUSTOMERS WHO PAY FOR THEIR PRODUCTS) Should Be Treated Better.. Is My Opinion.
