Fleksy Enabler

The Fleksy Keyboard is a third-party keyboard with an SDK that iOS developers can tap into if given access by Fleksy. The benefits of using the Fleksy Keyboard over the stock iOS keyboard is readily apparent after just a brief hands-on experience. You can actually go out to the App Store right now to download the standalone Fleksy Keyboard app to try it out. Other apps, like Launch Center Pro, have recently incorporated Fleksy in-app, providing for an arguably better typing experience.

But what about using the Fleksy Keyboard with built-in apps like Messages, Reminders; even Safari? What then? Up until now, this has been impossible. But the recent creation of a brand new jailbreak tweak called Fleksy Enabler, allows you to use the popular keyboard with some first-party and unsupported third-party apps.

FleksyEnabler requires that you have the Fleksy Keyboard application installed on your device. If you don’t, it will point you to the App Store so that you can download it prior to enabling.

To enable the Fleksy Keyboard in an unsupported app like Messages, invoke the iOS copy/paste menu, and tap the Fleksy button. After a period of initialization, you should then see the Fleksy Keyboard replace iOS’ stock keyboard. It may take you a few tries, but eventually the keyboard should be able to seamlessly switch between stock iOS and Fleksy.

Enabling the Fleksy Keyboard in the stock Messages app

Remember that Fleksy Enabler only works with a handful of apps, so not every first-party or third-party app will work. Thus far, I’ve been able to confirm that Fleksy Enabler works with the following apps:

  • Messages
  • Reminders
  • Safari
  • Facebook Messenger
  • WhatsApp

If you’re feeling especially adventurous, you can view the file located at /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/FleksyEnabler.plist for more details on enabling Fleksy Keyboard in more apps.

One of the cool things about using the Fleksy Keyboard is that you can use swipe gestures directly on the keyboard. For example, you can insert a space by swiping from left to right and delete by swiping from right to left. If you swipe down with two fingers, you can increase the size of the keys by hiding the space bar, and a swipe up with two fingers makes the space bar reappear.

The Fleksy Keyboard is also known for its excellent predictive text feature. It’s so good that some claim that you no longer need to look at the keyboard while typing. I’ve yet to attain that level of confidence, but I do like the keyboard’s built-in prediction; it seems more accurate than the stock iOS keyboard. I also like the fact that you can swipe down or up on the keyboard to cycle through suggestions if it happens to get the prediction incorrect.

Once you install the tweak, there are no options to configure for FleksyEnabler. If you’d like to give it a shot, you can download it from Cydia’s BigBoss repo free of charge. Remember, you’ll also need to download the free Fleksy Keyboard app from the App Store.

What do you think?

still waiting for hipjot to make it to Cydia.

  • Cameron Nottingham

Cool. But hopefully soon well be able to use the Swiftkey Keyboard system-wide as well!

  • Zod

Fleksy app keeps crashing on my iPhone 4

  • CAS

I like Fleksy, but I will wait for Jormy Hipjot Keyboard 🙂

    • Diego Milano

What’s that, if I may ask? I keep reading about it everywhere.

      • CAS

Its a new swype keyboard tweak, it is being developed by @Jormy and it’s awesome, check out his timeline or vines so you can see his progress 🙂

      • Diego Milano

Oh yeah, I just google’d it. Thanks for sharing. I suppose that’s good for people who like swiping style for typing versus tapping.

      • CAS

I don’t dislike tapping, but I find swyping faster 🙂

      • Diego Milano

I’m intrigued to see how much faster I could type. I wonder if it takes time to get used to it. You still need to press the spacebar as far as I saw.
I guess I could try the apps and see. 🙂

      • CAS

I tried Hipjot on my friends iPhone and it takes some time to get used to the keyboard but I have never typed that fast before 🙂

  • Diego Milano

I tested this before restoring my phone and I must say that I haven’t really noticed any significant improvement at-all. I think the native keyboard is totally underrated, in my opinion.
I was a bit dissapointed to be honest, but hopefully it will work better for others. Also, this tweak is BUGGY, as it doesn’t always work as advertised. Sometimes it would constantly open the Fleksy app instead of switching keyboards in-app.

    • Mescudi

      Same problem here too.

    • Adam

same for me constantly initializing, Fleksy app keeps crashing, haven’t gotten this tweak to work with any of the five mentioned apps on at least two or three different attempts tried uninstalling other tweaks as well to see if that would make a difference but that didn’t really help.

      • Keep trying. It will work after a while of tries. Each app separately needs it time, will work.

      • Diego Milano

I’ll pass, I don’t have time nor want to risk my software testing buggy tweaks. I might try again after a permanent fix or a stable version. It almost looks like a beta version to me.

    • DeAndre Enrico

Yeah, in the video on this post, I’m not seeing any compelling reason to even try this out. All I want is a good version of Swype. That would literally make my iPhone complete.

I tried iSwipe and that other one. I can’t think of the name of it now but it’s a Chinese tweak. Both of them are horrible. They are missing simple features that make Swype usable like starting a sentence with a caps or auto-adding spaces after words.

Someone please just port the default Google keyboard and put it into Cydia. I would pay quite a bit of money for a tweak like that.

  • Crashes the fleksy app.

    Nothing is working.

  • Zack Tiang

Takes several ‘Initializing Fleksy’ by the stock app (and a few Fleksy app crashings) before the Fleksy keyboard finally changes with the stock keyboard…. troublesome, but works.

    • Prasoon Singh

You need to install the Felksy app.

  • Eddie Melendez

    Porquería de review

    • Emilio Bartning Gómez del Camp

how do you make it work on WhatsApp? mine doesn’t work on it

  • Prasoon Singh

This makes my typing even slower.

  • suzidownunder

I have this on my iPad mini but see little benefit over the stock keyboard.I jailbroke my iPad mini hoping it would be more like the android system and am bitterly disappointed.
I do try hard to use the ios tablets that i have but every-time, i find myself reverting to my two android tablets simply because they are so open and versatile. I Haven’t found anything they can’t do yet (except make coffee)
Especially the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 – just awesome!

  • Ricardo Marcílio De Britto

I have enabled on my device and it works great, but I’m not able to change the language inside the app. Like, I can’t change the language when I’m using the keyboard with whatsapp. Does anyone know how to fix it?

  • Emilio Bartning Gómez del Camp

It’s really cool, but it don’t work in WhatsApp, when I try to enable it on WhatsApp it crashes
