As promised by Flappy Bird developer Dong Nguyen yesterday, he has removed the hugely popular game from the App Store, without giving any really convincing reason as to why.

Nguyen claims that he was fed up with the unwanted attention he was receiving after the unexpected success of Flappy Bird, a game that had been released months ago, but which only recently started getting traction…

In a series of tweets published yesterday, Nguyen also explained that he had no intention to sell Flappy Bird and that he will continue making games.

At this time, it’s still very unclear what the real motivations behind the removal of the game are. While it’s very possible that Nguyen was indeed tired of the attention he was getting, that is something a reported revenue of roughly $50,000 per day should have alleviated, at least for most of us.

Nguyen also claims that his decision was not motivated by legal reasons, but it’s hard to believe Nintendo was ok with Nguyen’s choice of design elements that are greatly inspired from the company’s iconic Mario games.

If you have already downloaded Flappy Bird, you will of course still be able to play it. But as it stands, it’s now nowhere to be found in the App Store.

Dong Nguyen has a few other games available in the App Store, somewhat similar to Flappy Bird. If you’re already missing the game, you can download Super Ball Juggling and Shuriken Block. They’re both available for free. And of course, there are already plenty of Flappy Bird knockoffs, including the now #1 free game Ironpants.

      more like “YeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeEEEEEEEsSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssssssssssssSSSSSSS”

    • Maxim∑

      No this is good.

He was generating fake reviews, and Apple told him to take it down.

      • Carlos Gomes

You know that as a fact or you’re just trying to grab some attention, as usually doom-claimers here do?

      • Maxim∑

Explain to me why all his reviews are literally 1-2 paragraphs repeating the same things?

And how does a App get more reviews then candy crush and Clash of clans combined in 4 days? These apps are top grossing applications with over 200 million downloads.

The reviews for ALL of his apps are unusually long all saying something along the lines of “this app ruined my life” its bot activity this is not normal.

      • joshhami

the app iron pants which is now number 1 has about the same type of reviews. there all really long

      • John Sklikas

Woot you’re right :O I found exactly the same review and same title on the Dutch App Store. So that guy was surely faking reviews!

      • Marcus

I looked online and couldn’t find much on this. However your theory probably is real. Where did you get this information from?

      • Maxim∑

        http://www.bluecloudsolutions (dot com) /blog/flappy-birds-smoke-mirrors-scamming-app-store/

I got it from there, just replace dot com with .com

      • XboxOne

Flappy Bee is also generating fake reviews.

  • Amr

WELL SHIT. Wish he didn’t do it and nobody will ever find out why it did happen. Unless someone leaks out info, not saying nintendo did something, but maybe they did and the only way we will find out is if someone from the inside leaks it.

  • Marcus

This is very sad, I will always continue to play Flappy Bird though and I hope that modded themes keep getting released for it! Also this guy is asian, not to be stereotypical but, he could be Buddhist. Buddhist’s like to live a simple life and maybe the developer didn’t want to be caught up in making so much money.

    • Chun-Li aka ThunderThighs

Or maybe he was up to no good

      • Marcus

I’ve thought about that too, however I feel like that case is far less likely than what I mentioned above. If that was the case I think he would remove his other games as well.

    • Just for you

      • Maxim∑

im on it lol… where did you find that?

      • the comment system saved it as .jpg :/ try extracting it from my apk version

      • Maxim∑

someone made an app called flappy wings on google play and got 500,000k downloads….

its the perfect time to make money lol.

Im not sure where your apk is?

      • This youtube dot com/watch?v=ca4PDFrs-eU86/original.jpg

      • Maxim∑

        thanks 🙂

      • delete the /original.jpg though. messed it up :p

      • Maxim∑

I have more experience with unity/iOS but you should consider making that into an app on google play

      • it’s for Flappy Doge. It’s a fun mod for Flappy Bird. I’m thinking of putting it on the play store in a week. I love the game and I hate it to see it die like this

      • Marcus

Hahaha I saw the 1.0-1.1 version of this on Reddit but I couldn’t find one for 1.2 thanks man!

      • Enjoy.

  • Dev Shah

And the process of healing should begin for all those Flappy Bird Addicts.!!! 😀
*No Offence* I’m also one of Addicts.

  • Arsanny Lintang

will it still be available in our purchased tab?

    • Aaron de Silva

Nope. The game is although still considered purchased, AppStore no longer has the app package hence you not be able to download it again. If you however already have it, you can save the app package through your iTunes App list and perhaps install it again through iTunes in the future =)

    • Adriano Pucci

It was available for me to download on my other iPad through the “Purchased” Tab. Maybe I just got lucky, but it worked for me.

      • Nate McKelvie

I actually just installed it the same way

  • Modest

“without giving any convincing reason as to why.” I know 50 000 of them…

  • samosa queen

I don’t even care. This was a marketing stunt and a brilliant one as well.

  • David Gitman

bitch please I downloaded it in itunes on the pc and kept the ipa file >:)

    • Tre Scaggs

      Me too!!!

    • XboxOne

      Nobody cares.

      • David Gitman

        why are you mean? 🙁

      • XboxOne

        I try not to be.

      • Nick Chambers

        You failed ;(

      • Y2J

        It’s ’cause he’s got a tiny Xboner that won’t go away…

  • Tre Scaggs

    Finally!!

  • abdullah575

it just make you angry !!!

  • Freddy Born

It’s still up here in germany

  • Ben

Sync your iPhone with iTunes and save the IPA.

  • abdullah575

you can still download it from your Purchases!!! on appstore update section!!

  • Jeffrey Feuerstein

we will miss you dear flappy

  • Therma

Good riddance. It was rubbish anyway. Now can other shiitty games like Angry Birds and Candy Crush also disappear and let’s see more real games like Walking Dead, Republique and Lost Echo.

    • samosa queen

Angry birds is shit? LOOOOL Carry on talking trash. Angry birds is the best mobile game yet.

      • Therma

        I feel sorry for you.

      • jack

it is shit, unless you have a really low IQ

      • Carlos Gomes

I dont’t, but he may just like the game and there’s nothing wrong with that.

      • Cool

Most popular, but not really the best.

      • Jonathan Robert Kundinger

Angry birds died out at the beginning of last year.

  • Zachary Pasha

    yes!!!

    • Carlos Gomes

Why would that make you so happy?
      I don’t get it.

  • Roger Rdz

This has got to be the dumbest developer ever

    • Jonathan

Yeah, it is dumb to try to find a game that people will like and make $50,000 a day.

  • Tony

It’s obvious there’s legal issues here or was going to be. Nintendo graphic and sound ripoffs. It was bound to catch up. Oh well. To those who enjoyed the game it stinks because no updates for them. Just another fad that quickly fades.

    • Bob

You’re right, Nintendo own the rights to green pipes.

      • Lol, you f’n kidding right? Wouldn’t be surprised if you’re not…the patent and trademark system is totally broken.

  • joseph letera

you did got it be for he removed the game you can still download it form your acct

  • Andrew Roth

Just a marketing strategy. He got thousands more downloads from this new press and the sense of limited timeness, meaning more ad revenue.

  • Question

The dude probabaly made alot of money in 22 hours. People downloaded the app before it gets removed and the ads in the app probably gave him lots of $$$

  • Tyler

    Downloaded it last night!

  • Antzboogie

He said his games are overrated Im confused. Thats not really true though it is a good game. He doesnt want the attention? Its good for his life to be known and get good sponsorship(50,000) a day lol. I heard some people were really obsessed, lol. Thanks for a good game hope he really said the truth here.

  • omrishtam

shit and dumb game…dont understand why it is so overrated. even the developer said it’s WAY overrated

    • Carlos Gomes

It’s not dumb, it’s just simple. True, the only objective is not not fail after three damn pipes, but that’s its thing. Most people just want quick and straight to the point games and that’s what Flappy Bird was.

    • ConduciveMammal

It’s mostly the social hold it has on people. A few people rant on Facebook about frustrating it is, a few of their friends see it and wanna see what the fuss is about, they then rant about it, then it just explodes like a spider web. A frustrating game is always the most successful as people strive to better their score.

  • Cool

I saved the app on my desktop, the old and new version.

  • PereZ!

Offtopic: what is the lastest ios for ipad 3? Thanks

    • blastingbigairs

  • IRAPEURMOM ANDURSISTERTOO

    I DON’T GIVE A FLIYING FUCKKKK LMFAO

  • Mac Ada

I can understand he has other priorities in life than making money, or being famous and he just can’t stand how his life changed after success of Flappy Bird. But why couldn’t he just donate all the money this game made, to people or organisations/charities that need them? This whole thing for sure has some secrets behind it.. or the guy isn’t sane, at least not wholly

  • Sam Khan

I heard he got some death threats, and nintendo was anout to sue him because of super mario kinda look.

  • Guest

    This

    • Jonathan

      That

  • jack

    This here

  • XboxOne

Flappy Bee is also having comments from bots.

    • Vitaliy Anonymous

Dude, update your apps. My hands would be itching to read the changelog for each of them and hit that magical update button.

      • XboxOne

I will once I make sure the updates don’t break the functionality of the apps.

  • ChildishGambinoGotThatSwagger

They said David Chappelle was crazy for turning down the 50 million. Fame isn’t for everyone.

  • Mark

Even if I don’t play this game but I do, it’s still sad to see it go.

  • on3simpleclick

People are now selling iDevices on ebay with FlappyBird pre-installed…

  • Roddy

$50k for an iphone 5s with flappy bird on ebay… what suprises me is that there are 47 bids ._.

    • on3simpleclick

      that’s ludicrous lol

  • ConduciveMammal

Awesome! Now everyone can finally shut up about it. It’s all I’ve seen these past few weeks. Everywhere!

  • Huntz

Kinda genius if you ask me. Tell everyone you’re pulling the app. Word spreads and has a brief boost in popularity. Those who enjoy the game will probably never delete it until they get REALLY bored with it or keep it for whatever’s sake since they won’t get that chance again giving it a little value. Dude still makes his money from ads. Definitely a good marketing trick to protect a seemingly pointless game. -shrug-

  • Sandy Cook

lol @ ‘no convincing reason as to why’

  • “NOT” Steve Jobs

Thumbs up if you haven’t played it yet 😀

  • chjapa

Between flappy bird and grumpy cat I just don’t understand the world anymore.
