FolderEnhancer iOS 7 02

FolderEnhancer used to be one of the first jailbreak tweaks that I installed on my newly jailbroken iPhone. Before iOS 7, you could only have one page of app icons in a folder, and I used FolderEnhancer to get around Apple’s arbitrary limits.

With iOS 7’s release, Apple has relented, and incorporated some of the features, like paging within folders, that made FolderEnhancer such a great release. For that reason, the new FolderEnhancer for iOS 7 may seem a bit underwhelming for those of you whose jailbreaking experience goes back some time.

That said, FolderEnhancer is still worth checking for. In fact, FolderEnhancer (iOS 7) is a free download for those of you who purchased the original version, and it’s only $0.99 for newcomers. Have a look at our video walkthrough inside to see what the latest version of FolderEnhancer is all about.

Inside of FolderEnhancer’s preferences, you’ll find three sections: effect, close all folders, and icon layout. The effect section features two toggles for eliminating the open/close and zooming animation when opening or closing folders. I’m not a big fan of eliminating the open and close animation, as the result is too jarring for my taste. Some may argue that eliminating the animation makes iOS seem faster, but it comes at the expense of the user experience in my opinion. The tweak’s zoom toggle, which allows you to disable the wallpaper zoom upon opening a folder is a much more palatable option.

The close all folders section allows you to close all nested folders when launching apps or pressing the Home button. This toggle only applies when you happen to be within a nested folder (folder within a folder). Although you won’t find a toggle for nested folders within FolderEnhancer’s preferences, this ability is added when installing the tweak, and there’s no way to disable it from the preferences.

Lastly, you’ll find a section for the icon layout. The icon layout section lets you migrate to a 4×4 layout, instead of the stock 3×3 layout normally present in iOS 7. For iPad users (yes, FolderEnhancer 7 plays nice with the iPad), you can add an optional 5×5 layout if you feel compelled to do so.

Personally speaking, I think that having a 4×4 layout for apps makes folders look weird. Not only do folders look odd when they’re open (there just isn’t enough padding around the app icons with 4×4 enabled) but the folder icons look weird when closed and stuffed with apps as well. Since you can place as many apps into folders as you want in iOS 7, I’m not a huge fan of stuffing as many app icons on a single folder page as possible, but to each his own.

FolderEnhancer for iOS 7 is another semi-casualty of Apple finally listening to the cries of its users. We all wanted the ability to place unlimited apps within a folder, and we got it. And there are other features that Apple has iterated over the years that have encroached on FolderEnhancer’s territory.

Despite my gripes, major props to FolderEnhancer developer, Lance Fetters, for making this tweak a free upgrade for those of us who already purchased it previously. You can find it right now on Cydia’s BigBoss repo. Share your thoughts about FolderEnhancer (iOS 7) in the comments.

    Sringtomize 3 that is all

    • springtomize 3 doesn’t stretch the folder icons. so i ended up buying 2 tweaks :/

  • Martynas Linkevicius

The best tweaks are being updated. Love this time of the season 😀

    • Ali

In that case, someone please update Giffy, or make another tweak that allows you to play gif images on iPhones…

      • FrancesTheMute

You can. Or you can atleast send animated gifs thru imessage.

    • Jamie

      Can’t wait for Intelliscreen X for IOS7!

    • Damian W

And our money starts flowing like water

  • CHANCE10N

Doesn’t support iOS 7.1 beta and will not. Developer said so. Don’t buy if you on beta, as I 🙁

    • Why are you still on the beta? The new one breaks the jailbreak. Why stay at beta 3?

      • CHANCE10N

I stay on beta 2, because it significantly faster and more stable than 7.0.4. Beta 3 and 4 buggy and ugly, and final version of 7.1 have all chances to be same. Also 7.0.4 totally unusable on iPad 3.

      • Svs

You cant purchase any tweaks on ios 7.1 beta unless you changed the buildversion and product version

      • CHANCE10N

Yes, it’s Cydia bug. All other tweaks works fine on 7.1 and some officially support this firmware.
P.S. Don’t tell me that beta for devs, I’m developer.

      • Svs

Actually saurik disables purchase for beta version on purpose

  • im spending too much money on tweaks now XD

  • CSK

    Finally!!

  • Dan

I’ve been using this on my iPad, I like being able to have 5×5 app rows.
Pretty neat of the developer to make this a free update.

Best folder tweak eva! Took iDB long enough to pay homage.

  • They should also make a patch on iTunes, so that syncing new apps to device doesn’t reset my icon layout.

  • gittlopctbi

IDK, Jeff, you are not so enthused about this finally coming out and even meh about it. I disagree–I will take FE’s folder in a folder over paging in a folder any day. And I like the 4 x 4 icons in a folder. As far as helping those of us who have a ton of apps, FE is still a must-have for ease of organization and layout. I’m excited this is finally out.

  • gittlopctbi

Just a head’s up–MultiIconMover doesn’t like this and will cause it to crash. Since they are both from the same creator, I hope that there will be a fix.

    • gittlopctbi

He updated MultiIconMover and it’s fixed now! 🙂

  • Damian W

This is definitely huge tweak for iPad, not so much for iPhone

  • Maciek

Not many settings here in ios7

  • Jonathan Amaral

Does anyone’s home screen has a delayed reaction after pressing the home button or power button after installing this tweak? I don’t know it never used to happen before but after a recent update..

    • Svs

Try going to settings-general-accessibility-home click speed set it to default and disable accessibility shortcut or recalibrate your home button

  • J™

    iOS7 have killed this tweak

    • Sinistry

Not if the dev updates to include the customization options from previous versions but as is I agree.

    • gittlopctbi

I disagree in that I would rather have folders in folders than pages in folders, which is less efficient and slower in finding the app you want.

  • Jamie

This is still a good tweak. Not as much needed as it used to be but still a great tweak!

  • Imran Ar

on iphone 4, with 4×4 icon layout under folders, the folder title overlaps with the icons 🙁

  • mav3rick

One of the best Jailbreak tweaks. One of the best Jailbreak devs. Also caring about previous customers.

  • FrancesTheMute

This is nothing like the folder enhancer i used to know and love. I want my folders to not look like folders. To just bring up a new page of apps on the springboard. In due time i guess

  • oplix

This seems like a tweak that should be free. Most of what it does is change the amount of rows for folders. To me that sounds like a few lines of code.
