Alkaline Featured 02

Sometimes you just want to alter one simple piece of iOS without going full blown and installing WinterBoard. For times like these, a release like Alkaline is just what the doctor ordered.

Alkaline is a brand new jailbreak tweak that makes it super easy to theme the status bar battery indicator. The best part about Alkaline is that you don’t need WinterBoard installed to use it.

We’ve put Alkaline to the test and we’ve created a video walkthrough for you to see as well. Have a look inside to see how Alkaline works in action.

Once installed, head to the stock Settings app to find the preference panel for Alkaline. Inside the tweak’s preferences, you’ll find two themes bundled in from the get-go: Bolus, and Habesha.

Resized Alkaline prefs

The two stock themes look good. Bolus is a slimmer, sleeker battery indicator; while Habesha reminds me of the signal bars on the opposite side of your iPhone’s status bar. Both of these themes are bundled with Alkaline, but new themes will hopefully be created by others in the community.

While Alkaline is a free download, the developer is asking for donations to help fight Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a form of cancer found in early forms of the nerve cells in an embryo or fetus. This is a type of cancer that is found in young children under 10 years of age. Donations can be made from the pledge panel within the tweak’s preferences.

Alkaline is available right now on Cydia’s ModMyi repo. If you decide to take it for a test drive, then let us know what you think about it in the comments.

Also check out “Live Battery Indicator for iOS 7” that adds a theme to Alkaline. I prefer it and it has been updated from iOS 6

    • Jonathan

I tried downloading it. It didn’t show up in settings or anywhere. Neither Winterboard.

      • Ali

It appears in Alkaline’s Theme selection.

      • Jonathan

        Where/what is that? sorry. :/

      • Ali

Install the Alkaline tweak (The one discussed in the article), then Install “Live Battery Indicator for iOS 7” (You can obviously install them together. Then Go to Setting > Alkaline > Themes, and you should see all your choices there.

      • Jonathan

        Thank you so much!! :DD
Loving my new Live Battery Indicator. 🙂

    • Isa Altintas

Thanks for letting us know, any other themes for Alkaline you know?

A quick search turns up “Rechrg for Alkaline” and “Bolus (Full) Battery Theme”. Personally I prefer “Live Battery Indicator” which actually bundles 4 different themes.

It’s something that you could theme manually yourself if you look at the /Library/Alkaline/ with iFile (beware theming looks like it involves over 200 pngs).

    • Likii111

Can you help me choose theme for wi-fi and 3g?

This is something you’d probably look to winterboard for. If you’re not familiar with it there are thousands of themes available that do different things… Exactly what you’re looking for is up to you.

      • Likii111

i just want to change me wi-fi and 3G logo

    • J™

funny thing is when i go to cydia the battery revert back to the old icon

      • HiGhGuY

for me, (iPhone 5, 7.0.4) Zeppelin is the same. Reverts back to “Verizon” when in Cydia

      • illK†Δ

Cydia disables most tweaks for stability

      • Mohammed Sahib

Yeah, cydia disables many tweaks based on mobile substrate.

If you were wondering what the difference between the 4 different themes LBI provides:
        1. The previous design from iOS 6 version (No color)
        2. Just like number one but slightly smaller
        3. Like number one but with color for charging and low battery
        4. Like number three but with numbers instead of symbols when charging

    • Ayush Singh

Do you experience a delay when you open apps after selecting live battery indicator theme in Alkaline?

I haven’t noticed any delay. I also use NoSlowAnimations.

  • jocastro

    battery drainer?

    • Naman Jain

Almost all jailbreak tweaks are Battery Drainers….

      • Justice and Malice

      • tw23777

He’s actually right. All tweaks (using Substrate of course) take up a certain amount of battery. This is just fact. The more things you have hooking into a process, means more code is running, which means more battery is being used up. Now whether the battery being used is small or large is a different question. But it’s fact that all tweaks using Substrate use more battery.

      • Justice and Malice

It’s a negligible effect if any.

      • jocastro

        very incorrect

      • blastingbigairs

Apple corporate trolls??? Just playing, but I bet there are some on here just to kill our JB spirit.

      • Merman123

……aaand this is why there’s so many misconceptions.

      • Tmel4198

everything you do on your iPhone is a battery drainer……

    • Tmel4198

if you are worried about it. download batterysaver 7 (cant remember if there is a space between that or not)

  • on3simpleclick

    nice tweak

  • If I install it, will it make my iphone slower?

    • blastingbigairs

If you are running a 3Gs then yes. Otherwise take the plunge brother!!!

  • Ansar Arif

    Zeppelin for battery indicator. 😀

  • blastingbigairs

My favorite tweak was IOS6 Colorfulstatusbar. Damn I miss that awesome blue theme!!! Anyone know if there will be an update for IOS 7 or another similar tweak??

    • Tmel4198

you can only theme (see) status bar colored icons inside of apps, because of how iOS 7 displays the status bar on the homescreen and lockscreen. so if it were updated, you would only see the theme when you open up apps, not including cydia which disables most substrate tweaks

  • Dan

Nice little tweak, running perfectly on my iPad air.

  • weztimonial

    Love this tweak

  • Matt

    Wow it looks staggering.

    • Gautham Sivakumar

What’s the theme for the signal bars and wifi bars?

      • Chris Tangler

        its part of Solstice theme

    • HiGhGuY

I would also like to know.

      • Jonathan

        Know what?

      • HiGhGuY

Sorry. Meant to reply to Gautham’s reply, then it would’ve been clear…. to know what’s the theme for signal/wifi bars

      • Jonathan

I think I came across that one last night. In Cydia just type iOS 7 Wifi. There should be 2 that come up. Can’t remember the specific name, but I think it’s the one on the bottom, which is the one with a longer name. 😛

      • Matt

        It’s A theme named Solstice

      • Matt

        It’s the Solstice theme.
In the winter board you can enable or disable the status bar once you install Solstice.

  • Sérgio

I loved this! Finally a clean battery icon. With the one in picture, you can even dismiss battery percent indicator, as there’s five well defined bars.

  • HiGhGuY

Now, if only they would come out with something to theme the signal strength, so I could replace those stupid dots with customized signal bars

    • HiGhGuY

the tweak “Bars” was just updated for iOS 7. Replaces signal dots with bars. Good for now, but would still love a tweak for the signal bars that you can change the theme, zeppelin style.

  • Floyd Ritterson

My battery percent number won’t go away I’ve tried everything

    • Barry

      Try Cloaky.

      • Floyd827

        That worked thanks

      • jhale

        what ur zeppelin name?

      • jhale

    • Joey Nelson

Love that font, as well as the zeppelin logo. What are the names if you don’t mind my asking?

The setting is not something you need a tweak to change if you are on an iPhone. It’s buried under Settings > General > Usage > Battery Percentage. This apparently isn’t the case on an iPod Touch.

  • It’s Andreas who made the theme “Circul8” for iOS6 if some guys remember!

  • Eric S.

Anybody know what the theme is for “Battery Dots” or where to find it? It’s pictures in the Alkaline screenshots.

  • Matthew

how would go about making my own symbol for alkaline?

  • Neo

Can anyone help me, how come some of the Alkaline Themes doesn’t work on my iphone 6 plus, but work on my 5s.

  • Kharb Uja

    How to download alkaline!??
