Scanner Pro Readdle

Apple has named Readdle’s popular ‘Scanner Pro’ its App of the Week for this week. This means that through next Thursday, you’ll be able to pick up the application for both your iPhone and iPad, for free—a sizable savings of $7.

For those unfamiliar with the app, Scanner Pro essentially turns your iOS device into a portable scanner. It can scan documents, receipts, notes, photos, and more, and then upload them to Dropbox, Evernote, and other web services…

From the App Store description:

Scanner Pro transforms your iPhone and iPad into portable scanners. It allows you to scan receipts, whiteboards, paper notes, or any multipage document. Scanned documents can be emailed and printed, uploaded to Dropbox, Google Drive and Evernote, or simply saved on the iPhone/iPad. The application incorporates special algorithms that remove shadows, make scans sharper, correct perspective and make them as readable as possible.

And here are some of the app’s top features:

Scan documents – Scanner Pro scans any type of document, ranging from a receipt to multipage documents. All scans are saved as a PDF.

Process images smartly – automatic edge detection and advanced image processing help you to get great scans blazingly fast. You can also adjust the crop area manually, by tapping on the screen.

Real-time border detection – while making a scan, borders are detected visually and in real time. Thus you can choose the best position to get a perfect scan and skip manual borders adjustments.

Scan documents into a PDF file – all scanned document are produced as industry-standard PDF files. You can add new scans, delete or rearrange pages within a PDF file.

In addition to uploading scanned files to the web, you can also quickly email or print them with a single tap. Scanner Pro also supports iCloud syncing, meaning a document scanned with your iPhone can be accessed using the iPad app.

Scanner Pro is widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best document-scanning app for iOS. First introduced in 2009, it’s collected a number of awards and it’s currently rated a 4.5 out of 5 in the App Store on nearly 8000 ratings.

I’d recommend grabbing the app even if you don’t plan on using it right away. Scanner Pro is available in the App Store, for a limited time, for free.

Anyone got an opinion on how it compares to Tinyscan Pro? Which one is better?

    • Denys Zhadanov

This one is better. Like 1000x better.

    • felixtaf

I dono which one is better. Since its free now, why not download and give it a try. Only you can tell which one suits your needs!

I really like TinyScan. They are almost identical. Most of the feature set is the same between Scanner Pro and TinyScan. The only difference I could find was with SP, in photo setting, you can adjust for brightness and contrast. In TS you can’t. So if scanning photos is important, SP has the slight edge. I also found that the photo quality was slightly better in SP. Also, SP was better in determining the borders with autodetect than TS. With TS, you have to be careful that there are no other straight-line borders in your viewfinder frame or TS may use that as a border instead of your document’s. SP was smart enough to determine that the other borders in the picture were not part of the intended document and did not attach to those borders. I think for that reason alone is why I’ll be switching to SP. I hope this helps.

Do you know why they are identical? Guess?
Because it seems that someone is copying our work. That’s why!

      • gittlopctbi

        Which developer are you?

      • Denys Zhadanov

        Scanner Pro of course.

      • gittlopctbi

        See my edit.

      • Denys Zhadanov

We are working on OCR. Thanks for spreading the word! I’ll appreciate if you leave a review on the App Store 🙂

      • gittlopctbi

Cool! I will leave a review–very nice product. And thanks for making it free. Since we go back to school on Monday, many teachers have the chance to grab it before Thursday.

      • DrX

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply like this! I appreciate it.

Nice app… Planned to buy it via appsanta promotion. But missed it. Anyway, got it for free now… Worth the 7$ though…

  • Neil Sardesai

Is this better than Genius Scan?

    • Denys Zhadanov

      I am biased, but yes.

  • ConduciveMammal

Slightly off-topic but does anyone know of a decent OCR app?

    • CamScanner+ has OCR built in. I’m not sure if this one does.

  • James

Sweet! This is an app I’ve been wanting to buy but just havent.

  • So basically it’s a glorified camera app?

    • Denys Zhadanov

      Have you actually tried it?

  • Aleksandar Kojić

    thanks for info!
