Safari Push Notification iDownloadBlog

With the release of OS X Mavericks, Apple has introduced a way for readers to be alerted via push notification every time a new article is published on one of their favorite sites. Today, I am happy to announce that iDownloadBlog is able to deliver these push notifications to your Mac.

Showing as a banner in the upper-right corner of your Mac, these push notifications will allow you to instantly know when a new article is published on iDB, even if Safari isn’t currently running.

Here is how you can subscribe:

Step 1: Make sure your Mac is running OS X Mavericks (version 10.9) and Safari 7.

Step 2: From Safari, go to You should see a popup window offering you to subscribe to the site. Click Allow.

Allow safari push notification

Once you’ve subscribed, you will get a push notification banner every time a new article is published on the site. If you do nothing, the banner will go away automatically. If you want to find out more, simply click on the banner and it will take you to the article on

How to unsubscribe:

If you decide you do not want to receive notifications anymore, you can always go to Safari > Preferences > Notifications > Deny. If later on you change your mind, you can always come back to this menu and click “Allow” again.

Other ways to keep in touch with iDB:

Of course, there are many other ways you can keep in touch with iDB, and this is a good occasion to sum it all up again for you:

As always, thank you very much for your support.

    One word.

    • Raashid

      4 in 2 words.

      RSS Reader…

  • Question

Is this possible with the iOS 7 safari? Really cool feature

    • No

    • Piyush

You can use IFTTT and Pushover.

    • Raashid

Uhm, this is an OS-Integrated RSS reader, just get an RSS reading app that alerts with push notifications. I use LockInfo on my freed 4S and when there’s a new IDB article, I get a notification on my LockScreen.

  • jocastro

you guys need to make a app for the billionth time!!!!!!!!!!

    • Damian W

so many shitty sites have apps, and such an awesome and respected site as IDB does not. It is hard to believe. We are waiting.

      • 1d3rboy

They have gone over why they don’t in one of their first podcasts. I don’t remember the reason, but it made sense when I heard it lol.

    • marcus1324

Why would we need an entire app just for a website?

    • Jonathan

      Bookmark to home page.

      • Adel Ali

True, but not the same thing

    • AndroidDogHeatandSteelersFan

      And a mini forum!

    • Carlos Gomes

An app to read articles? That makes no sense to me.

    • lemonhead

if not at least make a optimized mobile site !
      it has so many bugs:
for example changes from mobile to desktop layout or the desqus layout has some problems again or youtube videos are not optimized for mobile, while the last one is out of your guys hands but still it could just not be there if not able to be played….

  • Bob

Does anyone know how to get reminder notifications on the same day. It notifies me on the day before when I open my mac lid, but not on the actual day.

  • Decio Arruda

Awesome! This will prevent my constant 15 min check on the website. Much faster but, won’t this make it so that the website gets less money out of ads?

    • Jonathan

I thought I was the only 15 minute checker. *virtual high five*

      • Question

i use this site everyday i come here every second of my life my day my year while in the bathroom while in the shower while eating while walking while hunting elephants.

    • I do not believe this will impact ad revenue, but thanks for worrying about 🙂

  • Decio Arruda

BTW I would totally buy some Macbook iDownloadBlog stickers

  • Jordan

    Really like that safari icon.
Can somebody please tell me where to find it.

    • Yash Gorana

that black border is annoying, it’s because of the .png format i guess 😐

Also iDB is not whitelisting my comment with the original link 😐

      • Jordan

        Thanks Yash!
I’ll just edit it a bit to get rid of the black border.

      • noaaahh

The Dribbble link has multiple sizes (1024px) with .icns and .png’s

  • Justin

How did you guys do it without breaking the bank? I have been looking into it for my own testing, and it seems like it costs a fortune!

    • We had to sell Jeff’s house for this, but isn’t it worth it?

      • Question

      • Justin

Lol! Thank you, though. It will be nice to get iDB on my desktop!

      • Matthew

      • Ah, poor Jeff 🙁

  • Windy Joseph

so is this more like a RSS feed?

    • Raashid

It pretty much is a proprietary OS-integrated RSS feed reader, with a bit of sugar coating…innovative.

      • Julian Gigola

but it’s push! Don’t forget that.

      • Raashid

Push? So what? Not gonna save me that much battery life on my PC…with my RSS reader refreshing every 30 mins, I still manage to get 4 hours on my PC (Surface Pro 1).

      • blastingbigairs

        PC??? Fart sound!!!!

Just playin with ya bro 🙂

      • Carlos Gomes

Calling a tablet a PC. Enough said.

      • Raashid

Appears the iDB dictators refused my clean post…bunch of biased fanboys. Here it is again:

Desktop, Laptop, Tablet AND SmartPhone are ALL form factors of a PC (Personal Computer). Their functionality is mostly defined by their OS (Operating System). Being a tablet doesn’t imply you should be limited to bastardized apps (like on iOS/Android/Windows RT). Same applies to SmartPhones, in fact, whenever the technology gets there, expect to see more SmartPhone-to-Tablet-to-Laptop docks like these.

  • maverickmax

    finally 🙂

  • Ricky

i was just about to comment that i didnt get the pop up and suddenly it appears

  • Khan

very nice feature…. perhaps a video tutorial???

  • Justin H

  • ✪ aidan harris ✪

I’ve been doing this a long, long, long, long time

  • nitwitvd

    PLEASE, make an iOS app!!!

  • SkyFall

I really want to see an iDB app someday, even if I know that such a thing might never happen. So to relief that need I made a concept of how iDB app would look like ( my opinion ).

  • Now finally a viable reason for upgrading to Mavericks
