Final Fantasy VI (teaser 001)

Back in October, Square Enix director Takashi Tokita announced that his team was working on a mobile version of its popular Final Fantasy VI title. The game, he said, will be landing on iOS and Android platforms “this winter.”

Unfortunately, that’s about all we know right now, and the winter timeframe means we may not see anything until mid-March. But luckily, Square Enix decided to throw FF fans a bone this week and has posted some screenshots…

Square Enix posted these two gameplay images to its website this week (via PocketGamer):

fantasy 6 2

Not much can be gleaned from these screenshots, but they are the first we’ve seen of the game. Square Enix says that this won’t be a direct port of the 1994 console game, but rather a remake with enhanced visuals and controls.

As usual, we’ll let you know as soon as we have more details about the release of Final Fantasy VI. In the meantime, feel free to check out these recent FF releases: Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years for iOS.

I’m excited about this one! Hopefully they change to many things in it. My fave of the series by far!

You mean “don’t change” I presume?

      • Tony

Sorry, yep that’s what I was thinking. 🙂

  • This was by far my favourite SNES instalment of Final Fantasy, though is it just me who prefers the visuals of the original game? The graphics may be sharper on this remastered version, but they lack the pixel-ridden charm of the original and look more like Flash games. Maybe it just needs to grow on me? They do look sharp and nice though, maybe it is because I grew up playing SNES?

I agree with you whole-heartedly. I love the original version.

Keep in mind this comment is coming from someone who beat ff4 and 6 earlier this fall on my iphone “emulator”, obviously. that being said, im excited for the graphics change, gives me a reason to play the game again. Going alone with that thought. If you love the original graphics (like i do) why not just play one of the any number of other versions of any of the ff’s that still have the original graphics mainly emulators and hand held console versions, many are free (if you can afford a iphone/android you can afford a handheld lol). Im sure square is aware of these options and is setting them selves apart with these changes. I for one am grateful and will buy it on release.
