incipio atlas id

Popular accessory-maker Incipio announced a new version of its Atlas iPhone case yesterday, called the Atlas ID. As the name suggests, the case is Touch ID-friendly and it provides the same protection from water and other elements as the previous Atlas model.

This is fairly significant, as there aren’t many waterproof cases available for the iPhone 5s that work with the handset’s built-in fingerprint reader. Most element-proof offerings cover the Home button completely, rendering the Touch ID feature effectively unusable…

From Incipio’s press release (via 9to5Mac):

“Incipio®, designer and manufacturer of award-winning mobile device accessories, announces the launch of the ATLAS™ ID Waterproof Case for iPhone 5/5s. The ATLAS ID™ Case features intelligent Touch ID interface, compatible with the iPhone 5s’ Touch ID sensor and includes a device limited warranty and simple-to-use registration App. The ATLAS ID™ embodies the most important and essential elements of device protection; resistance to water, dust, drops, and defense against unforgiving circumstances.”

The new Atlas ID case for the iPhone 5/5s features 5 layers of protection including a water-resistant structure, intelligent Touch ID interface layer, a co-molded rugged exterior, a protective inner core and a scratch-resistant tempered glass for screen protection.

Incipio says the case is waterproof up to 2 meters for 30 mins, and meets US Military Standard 810G for drop protection, water and dust ingress, and has an IP68 ingress protection rating against water and dust. And all ports and buttons are completely accessible.

The Atlas ID waterproof Case for the iPhone 5/5s comes in 4 different color combinations, including: Black/Dark Gray, Light Gray/Dark Gray, White/Gray and Pink/Gray. And if you’re interested, you can find the case on Incipio’s web store for $89.99.

Cool that they figured out a way to keep Touch ID functional while being waterproof… But too bad that damned “Try Again” will keep coming up because your hands are wet!

lifeproof already beat them to a waterproof 5s case.

    • Steven Cannan

Its not about who does it first its about who does it better.

      • Tobias9413

Lifeproof still does it better. And it’s cheaper. I trust lifeproof more than otter box and this.

      • Steven Cannan

Otterbox granted does have problems :/ Have you testesed this case?

      • Tobias9413

I have not yet. I may get one though if there’s a Black Friday deal. I’ve had lifeproof for all my iPhones since the 4 and I’ve always liked them though I do like to change up my cases everyone in a while.

      • Nate McKelvie

You know Otterbox owns life proof right?

      • Tobias9413

Yup! However, life proof still has their own case design and were independent before otter box bought them. But yes I am aware of that.

      • Nate McKelvie

Yeah they did have a better independent design, but after otter bought them, they incorporated the life proof design into the new preserver case.

      • Zachary Arain

        I agree

  • marcus1324

I ordered my LifeProof case over 2 weeks ago and it still hasn’t shown up 🙁

So this or the new life proof case for the 5s?
