We’re big fans of iPhoneography here at iDB—you’ve probably noticed our weekly segment on the subject. We love learning different tricks and techniques to help us take better-looking photos with our iPhones, and then sharing them with others.

So with that in mind, we thought we’d pass along the news that the MPA has begun accepting submissions for its 3rd annual Mobile Photography Awards. The contest is the largest of its kind, open to everyone, and features $15,000 in cash and prizes…

From the press release:

“It is with great anticipation and excitement that we announce the opening of the submission period for the 3rd annual Mobile Photography Awards. The MPA is an international open call for photographs and images created on mobile devices (phone and tablet).  The Mobile Photography Awards are open for entry to photographers and artists worldwide.

Over the course of three years, the Mobile Photography Awards has become the world’s largest annual event & competition of it’s kind. The MPA offers artists opportunities for exhibits, open gallery calls, fine art sales, and annual cash and prizes of more than $15,000. Entry fees remain the same as last year: $20 for 3 images, $30 for 5 images, $50 for 9 images and $100 for 20 images. The MPA/DIPTIC Photo Essay is a separate $25 entry with its own $500 prize and gallery exhibit.”

There are 20 photo categories, and every image entered may be placed in up to 3 of them. All 20 category winners will receive MPA prize packs, and will be included on the exclusive MPA Exhibit Tour, which offers further opportunities for fine art sales.

Grand prize winners will receive $3000, and 2nd place winners $500. Submissions will be accepted through December 3rd, and can be taken with any mobile device (although most entries come from iOS). If you’re interested, click here for more details.

So it’s not free to enter… Not a bad business idea then. I would imagine they will make lots of money.
