Yes, it’s safe for jailbreak hopefuls to update to iOS 7.0.3

ios 7 cydia

Following its big iPad event yesterday, Apple seeded iOS 7.0.3 to the public. While there are no major new features in the update, it does include several fixes for issues like iMessage, inaccurate sensor data, and more.

Initially, we warned folks who are hoping to jailbreak down the road to stay away from the new firmware until we were sure it was safe to update. Well late last night, MuscleNerd gave jailbreakers a digital thumbs up…

From MuscleNerd’s Twitter account

And for even more clarification:

So there you have it, folks. If you’re on any version of iOS 7 right now, updating to 7.0.3 won’t ruin your chances for jailbreaking in the future. Obviously, though, if you’re currently jailbroken on iOS 6.x, you should stay away.

As far as the iOS 7 jailbreak goes, all we know right now is that the evad3rs are currently working on it. Earlier this month, planetbeing said that the team ‘may have all of the pieces in place,’ but we know little beyond that.

To me jb isn’t worth it. It’s nice for a month or two, but it starting to reboot and freeze more often.

    • Freddy Born

      Cool story, bro.

      • thetomthebomb

        Ha!

      • Rory Laird

        Lol!

    • Mohsin

Do you keep your iPhone in the fridge? My jailbroken iPhone never freezes neither it reboots itself.

      • Question

        Lol! Haha! Good one

      • http://twitter.com/Aktersnurran Jesper “Aktersnurran” Linder

Haha! Here you go, have my like!

      • Mark

Oh, I assigned mine to reboot itself every morning. hah

    • Eikast

A jailbreak itself has no affect on your phone. It’s the tweaks/apps that you install without doing research that causes problems.

      • Dao Sasone

        True.

      • Jo

yeah and all you have to do is delete the tweak!

      • ellefoxgrl

my bf has a JB iphone and it wont let him delete some of the apps. i even tried. what do you do in that scenario? i mean i know there are apps on the phone that were originally on them that we know we cant, but the ones in question were downloaded from a 3rd party and a few of them wont remove. also the apps left over crash after attempting to load. if anyone has any suggestion please contact me :). (he has an iphone 4 i think the ios is 6.x or 5.x not too sure.

      • Eric Goncher

have him download the tweak cydelete which gives you the ability to delete cydia apps

      • blastingbigairs

        THANK YOU!!!!

      • Ari Ocan

        yeah i think it,s right!

    • randall young

What in the world are you doing with your device?!?!

    • sriram varadarajulu

It all depends on how and what you install my friend.. Yes it crashes freezes and resprings but if you’ve installed properly then it would occur rarely or it won’t even occur at all

    • wonderboydave

run the tweak iCleaner. its free. and it clears up the “other” space from your iphone/ipad/touch

    • TeChNoStyLeZ

      sounds like android

      • Joseph

        Pre-Jellybean.

      • TeChNoStyLeZ

I have the galaxy s3 right now on android 4.2.2 and I’m tired of android , lag here , lag there. I’ve been using android and ios devices in the past and came to the conclusion that ios is better for everyday use so I’m going to get the 5s tomorrow

      • Joseph

I see that most people seem to confuse the Galaxy S3 with other devices or stock Android. Let me tell you this; the Galaxy S3 is Samsung’s own work, with a modified version of Android and a resource-heavy and not at all optimized TouchWiz interface. Give a stock firmware or device a try and you’ll say differently.

      • TeChNoStyLeZ

You’re right but when installing a stock android rom on a samsung device you lose the features samsung gives you. The s4 has some badass features but with stock android most of them ( if not all ) are gone so I dont really see an advantage of android over ios. A lot of peaple say android is a more open and free platform. What the hell would you do with your phone ? On an iphone you can install your apps ,have your media files etc just like android. I can do on an iphone everything I do on my s3.

      • Joseph

True enough, but that’s a completely different issue.

      • ellefoxgrl

i think what they meant is that you dont have to JB your andriod to add 3rd party apps as where in apple products you have to JB it just to add them.

      • Core

It’s because touch wiz is so good

    • DarkXess

You cant blame JB for that, it depends on the tweaks etc you had running. I have had the same problem before, removed the tweak which was causing the problem and my phone started running as normal. Like they say, JB is to free to use, no one forces you to use it, if you dont like it then simply dont use it :)

    • Ted Forbes

Between you and me, don’t know what you are talking about.

    • Dom

Sounds like you either have a really old phone or you didn’t jailbreak properly.

    • Core

Well it’s probably because your exceeding the limits of your device. Psst n00b

    • PghMike4

I found when I used the Evaders 6.0.2 jailbreak that my GPS fritzed out pretty frequently. When I restored the original OS, those problems disappeared.

The two reasons I did JB was tethering (not an issue now that I’m on T-mobile) and sbsettings (subsumed by 7.0.3’s control center).

The only other thing I’d like from vanilla iOS would be a real battery life app.

    • Big Red

It all depends on what you download.. If you go crazy downloading all hacks an tweeks then yes your phone will start to crash an reboot.. All depends on what you download. I had my jailbreak for a couple of years an I never had such problem, in the beginning yes because of me downloading everything in sight.

    • awd

That only happends if you install shitty cracked tweaks, if you buy the ones that are actually good and uptodate you will not have a problem

  • Jailbreaker

    <3

    • Jo

      <3

  • chumawumba

Now if we could actually get a jailbreak…

  • CA$H

Jailbreak will be out as soon after the iPads are out

  • El Arqui Tecto

iOS 7 is the closest thing to jailbreak

    • Matt Taylor

      Really…

I could give you over 100 reasons why that’s not true, but I really can’t be bothered to type them all! Lol :p

      • Jo

Here’s a youtube video describing 100 reasons to jailbreak!
/watch?v=fZoqW-GEdQM I don’t get the end of the video though.

      • El Arqui Tecto

And you really need that 100 reasons? Bunch of them are only waste of time and storage, just a few saves jailbreak.

      • blastingbigairs

For me I only need two reasons, free wifi tethering (TetherMe) and MovieBox. When the new JB comes out check em both out :)

      • Ted Forbes

Well just like the apps in the iTune Store most of them are a waste of pennies and storage, just a few is worth the money. But most jailbreak are free to install and free uninstall.

Trials or limited versions at most are the usually the full version in full. Purchasing the full version is the same as the trial or worst.

So the the best way to find out if an app is worth it is to jailbreak. Done.

    • DarkXess

Stupidest thing ive read all day :P

      • El Arqui Tecto

So you don’t read very often right… That’s why.

      • DarkXess

lol you would be so wrong to suggest that – I am a teacher and reading is what I do mostly for a living ;)

      • El Arqui Tecto

        Good for you…

      • smtp25

I’ve met some pretty stupid teachers (stupid as in they can’t spell or do math very well)

  • mb916

    thanks for the update.
    I can’t wait to jb my 5s

    • Johnny True

so we gotta wait ulti mini2 is out…late in november as apple says

  • John Jones

I had iPhone 4s jail broken and it froze more often followed by reboot specially while using Camera app. I don’t miss JB after iOS 7. Only things I miss Reboot/ Tethering option from SBS setting.

  • Guest

Lol still don’t see any reason to upgrade to iOS 7 since so many tweaks are being released which can make your phone look exactly like iOS 7 yet still keep the jailbreak with iOS 6. What does iOS 7 have that I need?

    • marcus1324

As Steve Jobs once said consumers don’t know what they want until we give them it (Something like that). Just wait all of the jailbreak developers will come out with some awesome stuff.

    • Andy

More and more apps are supporting iOS 7 only

      • xSeriouSx

Not a reason to downgrade to iOS 7, ’cause now I can easily get earlier versions of the app.

    • blastingbigairs

A very childish Android-like interface, a hideous color scheme, and simple changes that JB devs made years ago. Not in any rush, I can wait.

      • Umut Bilgiç

Say what? Android-like?? How dies flatting the looks of stuff and making the ui multilayered turns it into android-like?? What does ios7 has to do with android? Ireally dont get it. JB Devs madr similar tweaks, correct, hideous color scheme, that is your opinion, but dude android like, really?

      • blastingbigairs

With all the pastels and bubbly icons to me it reminds me of Android. Maybe I’m a little off base, but I just loath the look. I’ve even heard other folks say the same thing that it reminds them of Android. I’m sure I’ll get used to it once the JB comes out, and I will upgrade for sure, but for now I am staying on IOS 6.

      • Umut Bilgiç

Hmm I see what you sayin ai had some friends say the same thing and I wanted them to explain why they thought so, they did not have an answer either. It looks as if this is a thing actually i guess.

      • blastingbigairs

Yea for sure, mostly people who’ve had Android phones with TouchWiz (Galaxy S owners)I guess.

    • Umut Bilgiç

Itunes radio, photo-camera enhancenments, new safari features, iCloud keychain and ofcourse freshed up UI was my reasons in upgrading. Yeah, maybe some of the tweaks can give you the feel of ios 7, but not one can give the full-fledge experience.

  • Tobias9413

I feel the jailbreak is close. They were prob just waiting for apple to release all their products so they can have a jb for everything on day one.

  • John Sklikas

To be fair, I can’t see any BIG reasons anymore for jailbreaking apart from Anemo for quick reply and YourTube. I’m ok with Control Center, ok with AirDrop, ok with the new multitasking and from the major ones, Velox was fun, but I am not really missing it. Now, I will jailbreak, firstly because I am a developer and secondly because in the end of the day, it is the small tweaks that never become obsolete that I miss. When I removed my jailbreak I was already missing the ability to create a countdown and have it right away in my NC with CountdownCenter, as much as I missed knowing the time to my alarms with TimeForAlarm, being bake to quick reply with Anemo (though we will have something like this on iOS 8) and last but not least YourTube. Anything else was adequately replaced with iOS 7.

    • trickedx5

with my unlimited data…TETHERME to my wifi ipad air…game OVER

      • John Sklikas

Ah ok, as I said I don’t reject that jailbreaking is still amazingly useful for some people. It’s just that for me, it doesn’t really have a MAJOR point anymore, excluding the small tweaks that enhance the iPhone experience. This is the reason I will jailbreak because iOS 7 satisfied all I wanted except from Quick Reply (which will be on iOS 8 and I can bet this) and YourTube and as the guy below said, I can now do it with MxTube :D

    • Umut Bilgiç

I share yoyr feelings man. I have found this App Stire app called “MxTube” (same as we have on JB) and it is basically YourTube eith iOS 7 compability and look. You can cache videos (up to 1080p) I really like it, it might get deleted by Apple, so I think yougotta be quick :D

      • John Sklikas

Thanks a lot for letting me know, I just downloaded it :D

      • Σαλαη αββας

        It’s mctube not mxtube
Edit : I looked for it in the App Store , both apps exist but mxtube and mctube are the very same app with slightly different names

      • John Sklikas

It actually is MxTube cause I just downloaded it ;) I know McTube also exists, but MxTube is new and does this as well. After all, wasn’t it McTube that removed this feature?

      • Σαλαη αββας

Yeah but a new update got it back , I use it myself

  • randall young

I am not gonna update until the jailbreak is released. I am on ios 6.1.2 and my untethered is great! No crashes, freezes or anything. Looks like ios 7 too with extras of course!

    • Palmer Paul

What did you install to make it look like iOS 7 (a list would be helpful)?

      • randall young

        I have….
        iOS 7 Concept Bitesms
        iOS 7 Ringtones
        iOS 7 User Interface
        iOS 7 folders theme
        iOS 7 iPhone stock wallpapers
No Lock Bars(which takes the black bars off the lock screen on iOS 6)
Card Switcher ( iOS 7 multitasker)
Color Keyboard (iOS 7 concept keyboard theme)

      • randall young

I also have Springtomize for customizing homescreen apps. Position of apps, number of rows for apps, etc….

  • sriram varadarajulu

Does the folder inception glitch still work in ios 7.0.3 ??

    • Didrick Namtvedt

Yes it does. I have two of my Facebook apps (the Pages app and the normal FB app) in a “Facebook apps” folder that’s placed within the “Social” folder on all of my devices and I did that on the first public version of iOS 7 and it has remained through the later updates. Makes me think it is more of an easter egg from Apple, a hidden feature meant to be found rather than a glitch and I hope it’s a feature here to stay for further versions of IOS 7.

      • sriram varadarajulu

sweet.. finally apple gets something right

  • Lance Baker

I downgraded to 7.0.2. I hate what’s been done to the reduce motion setting and I can’t stand the delay in the slide to unlock text. I’m a bit OCD and I see at least the motion stuff being changed in the next update.

    • Tom

i agree they turned off the animation at least before u could see

  • Tikimaker

if apple just added a re-spring it sure would make it a little easier to live without a JB. I know there are so many other useful JB tools but I really miss the re-spring option to get a refresh on memory.

  • Vietnam-rogue

I just wanna be downgraded …^_^

  • Evgeny Boutvilovski

5 icons per row + custom app placement. Enough said

  • Brian Gtz

    GarageBand is free today :D

    • smoof_sm

with in app puchase for full :(

  • Ishaan Malhotra

So auxo is useless now? Please tell me it will integrated with ios 7!

  • workin

older version itunes still required for iOs 6.x ??

  • guntursmjtk

    getting bored…..

  • http://sciencedem.blogspot.com editor

Some Jailbreak requests: a digital clock, above the date in Notification Center; and a button in the app switcher to close all apps at once.

  • Tom

i had my iphone 4 jaibroken than something crashed and had to restore stuck on boot loop

    • randall young

All you had to do was shut your device off, then turn back on. At the apple logo press and hold the volume up button. This disables the Cydia functions and allows you to go into Cydia and remove the latest install.

  • Tahir Ahmetovic

Anyone have a fix for bbm crashing on ios 7.0.3 i tried clearing my chat but it still crashes when i open contacts.. HELP!!

    • randall young

Uninstall the app, then reinstall it ..Idk just a thought.

      • Tahir Ahmetovic

there was an update today it got fixed. Thanks for your input though !!

you said to stay away, who’s using jailbreak iOS 6.x. Why?
Is there will be any problem if I update my iOS 6.x phone to iOS 7.x or later?
