iOS 7 teaser (iPhone 5c ad 007)

Earlier today, Apple announced that it would be updating 20 of its apps for iOS and Mac. We’ve already covered a number of these updates, including those for the iWork and iLife suites, and now it’s time for some iOS-specific apps.

Trailers, Podcasts, and Find My iPhone have each been updated for iOS 7. They have all been redesigned to match the new iOS with flatter UI elements and thinner fonts, and we have screenshots and download links after the fold…

Podcasts

The Podcasts update is easily the largest of the 3, bringing the app to version 2. The update not only introduces a stunning, all-new design for iOS 7, but it adds a number of other improvements as well like a redesigned Top Charts section.

Designed for iOS 7
• Podcasts has a beautiful new look and feel that fits right in with iOS 7
• The Podcasts Store is now located in the Featured tab, making it easier than ever to discover great podcasts
• The new Search tab makes finding podcasts in the Podcasts Store fast and simple
• Top Charts now shows podcasts and episodes in a simple list, so it’s even easier to see what’s popular
• You can now view your stations as a list of episodes, or group them by podcast

Stay up to date
• Podcasts now automatically update with new episodes — even while the app is not open
• Choose how often the Podcasts app checks for updates to get the latest episodes as soon as they become available
• iCloud now keeps your subscriptions, stations, and play position in sync with iTunes and Apple TV

This version of Podcasts also includes improvements to responsiveness and playback performance.

    What about iBooks?

    • queen_ir3ne

Definitely the icon, and maybe update the shelves, but I love the book-like form of the pages. I hope that doesn’t change. But it was definitely omitted form the Mac iBooks.

  • chumawumba

Why does the trailers icon still have gloss?

  • I’m still waiting for Find My Friends. The ugliest of the old guard style of iOS 6.

    • chumawumba

I’m surprised they haven’t dropped it.

Is anyone have problems with their imessage app on mac? Since july i’ve never been able to activate it or make it work. Even after updating to mavericks. It just spins for ever after entering the password.

Was wondering if any one else encountered this problem and found a fix?

  • RyanFoley

So left for them is iBooks, Remote (yes people do use it), and Find My Friends. Am I missing any?

    • marcus1324

iAd Gallery which nobody uses and hasn’t even been updated for iPhone 5

iTunes U and keynote remote too

      • John Sklikas

Keynote Remote doesn’t even support the iPhone 5 screen! I find this unacceptable, but I can’t do anything about it…

    • John Sklikas

And iTunes Connect (if you’re a developer you must know what it is)

  • queen_ir3ne

In addition to iBooks, Find My Friends, Remote, iTunes U, (and the gloss removed from iTunes Movie Trailers) Apple needs to make the Apple Store app universal for crying out loud!

I’m really starting to hate what Apple is doing with iOS7 & this whole “lets flatten everything trend”. From purely a design point of view, they are over simplifying the creation process, & in turn, a lot of these new icons just look so damn tacky & unprofessional.

I haven’t updated to iOS7, & dare say I won’t unless a stable jailbreak is ever released. I don’t think I could stand unlocking my phone to that monstrosity of a design that Apple have chosen to use.

    • John Sklikas

It is named minimalism. This didin’t began by Apple, it is a worldwide trend for anything right now like homes, furniture and devices. In fact all of Apple’s devices are minimalistic. Has a stock iPhone a skeumorphic leather case around it by stock that makes it look like a wallet? No! In fact if you read Steve Jobs bio, he said that skeumorphism is used to make something new familiar. But the iPhone doesn’t need this, it is already fairly familiar to everyone, it doesn’t scare anyone (and trust me computers used to, that’s why a famous Mac had a handle). So all I can say is that it was about time that this contradiction between device design and apps was solved and this happened thanks to Ive as he knows how to make software design consistent with his hardware design! Enjoy the progress 😉

I think it looks and works spot on..!

They still haven’t updated the Podcasts icon. It just doesn’t look right. Never has.
