Apps of the Week: Asphalt 8, Think Dirty, Tetra, and more

iPhone 5 appsThis weekend, my mom is coming to visit. She and I both share a love for the iPad. I love telling her about great new games and apps I’ve discovered and she gives me hand knitted iPad covers that she makes.

This weekend, I’ve got quite a few interesting apps for both the iPad and iPhone to tell her about. Whether you are racing to win, trying to figure out what your shampoo is made of, or getting ready for the longest music festival in history, we’ve got a list of apps that you’ll want to tell your mom about, too…

Dispatch

Dispatch

If you are a fan of the “inbox zero” method of productivity for your email, you’ll love how easy it is to empty out the unimportant messages with this gesture-based email client. You can swipe to trash, tap to archive, and communicate with other apps on your iPhone. Move important information into a cloud storage app, send links to an offline reading app, create reminders and tasks, and more right from within your email. Dispatch communicates with 18 different apps, and more are being added all of the time. You’ll be at inbox zero in no time. This app is available for $4.99.

Knightmare Tower

Knightmare Tower

Chop your way to the top with this fun and entertaining vertical endless runner, or maybe I should say jumper. Players take flight atop a rocket and use the inertia of chopping monsters in half to rise even higher. Generate a dash bonus by hacking baddies to bits multiple times in a row. Upgrade your weapons and armor. Drink potions that increase your speed and power. As you bounce from monster to monster, slashing them in two, you’ll be shooting higher and higher into the princess’ rooms. Rescue princesses to unlock new items. Save them all and meet their kidnapper for the ultimate boss fight. This game is available for $2.99.

iTunes Festival London 2013

Itunes Fest

It’s that time of the year again. If you didn’t already know about the iTunes Festival, every September, Apple thanks the world by presenting 30 days of music from some of the top musicians and bands. This year, you’ll see performances from the likes of Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, and Elton John and you can watch them right on your iPhone or iPad. Currently, the app features news and updates for the festival, which start Sept. 1, plus you can read up on all of the artists that will perform. After the festival starts, you’ll have access to live shows, pictures, and more. This app is available for free.

 Asphalt 8: Airborne

Asphalt 8

Gameloft’s newest launch is the eighth in the Asphalt series. This time, you’ll get all the action and awesomeness that the Asphalt series is known for, plus a whole lot more graphics upgrades. You’ll be punching the gas and getting airborne across nine different beautifully rendered locations. This game is available for $0.99.

Tetra

Tetra

This simple little multiplayer game is like tic-tac-toe for the new millennia. Actually, it is more like tic-tac-toe on steroids. Not only can you win a game by matching four shapes in a row, you can also win by matching four colors, or four sizes, or four shades (solid or lines). You may think it is simple to play, but you’ll be surprised at how much strategizing you’ll need to put into it. For $1.99, you can unlock eight different themes and the ability to play more than two games at once. This game is available for free.

FastFeed for Tumblr

Fastfeed for Tumblr Main

If you are a regular user and poster to the social network micro-blog site Tumblr, you’ve probably noticed what a pain it is to browse the website and discover new content. This app creates a new tab every time you tap a link to view another Tumblr post. This makes it much more convenient than visiting a site, tapping the “back” button on your browser, tapping a link, then tapping the back button again. You can also create and publish posts to your Tumblr blog right from within the app. Share your thoughts, post a picture, and repost someone else’s Tumblr with just a few taps. This app is available for free.

Think Dirty

Think Dirty

Do you ever wonder what is in the body spray you use? Do you think about the chemicals in your aftershave? Think Dirty can help you with that. This app presents easy-to-understand information on products you use and what the ingredients mean. Plus, you can find cleaner alternatives that might make you feel better about your purchase. No more washing toxic waste into the ocean. Now, you can be sure you are only washing all-natural waste down the drain. This app is available for free.
