Plants vss Zombies 2 (teaser 001)

EA Mobile and PopCap Games unleashed the long-anticipated Plants vs. Zombies 2 last Thursday and already the free-to-play game has amassed a respectable sixteen million downloads on the App Store, making it the most successful mobile game launch in EA’s history.

Matter of fact, the game has achieved one of the biggest opening weekends on the App Store ever for a mobile game title, EA boasted. If you’re a fan of the franchise, you’ll be delighted to learn that the first major content update is coming soon…

EA’s press release shares a few interesting stats regarding the game.

For example, Plants vs. Zombies 2 in just five days emerged as the top iPhone and iPad game on the App Store in 137 countries worldwide.

Players have generated over eleven billion suns and more than two billion zombie waves.

“We are grateful and delighted with the incredible reception Plants vs. Zombies 2 has received from consumers around the globe,” said Tony Leamer, Franchise Business Director for Plants vs. Zombies.

“We certainly had high hopes for the game, but to see fans playing the game so quickly and in such huge numbers is truly amazing.”

Thus far, there have been more than four billion plants planted and people have spent over 25 million hours playing the game.

Jostiq reported earlier today that a major ‘Far Future’ content update is coming soon, though no other details on the update’s launch were provided at post time.

The universal Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time app is available free from the App Store. The game will become available for other platforms “later this year and beyond,” EA said.

    • RarestName

      cool story bro

    • felixtaf

So? Whats great in that? you hacked it… Bypassed genuine play modes… And got some goodies… Is that a big deal? And next time you ‘hake” something, don’t brag about it…

      • seyss

        envy……..

      • felixtaf

I wonder what is here to envy about? Do explain please…

      • seyss

he’s getting everything the game has to offer for free while you are giving real money to EA, a company hated by most players

      • felixtaf

How did you get into a conclusion that am giving real money to EA? I have never paid a dollar to any IAP. Still playing Temple run 2 without IAP’s. I have paid real money to EA for games like FIFA and NFS… So I have no reason to envy about some IAP…

  • Singed

Great article, but I don’t like the title – makes you think that the update will be in the far future, several months later, while it actually will be coming out soon.

  • Jack Wong

    16M because of a free app -.-;

  • felixtaf

Nice game… Although am worried about the IAP, it never forces you to buy something.. U need to play good and win, in order to unlock the level..

  • James Brown

Do anybody know when is it coming to mac is it going to be like old 1?

  • John714

everything cost real money, this game was made to nickel and dime every player.
what a rip off. I’d rather pay once without all the BS

  • MHCsk

At first I was worried, that it will be full of in-app-purchases (well, actually it is), but I strated playing and the gameplay is great and it seems like it can be completed without buying anything. You don’t get as much plants though. I hate to say this, but I actually like it. (Needless to say the first game was much better)

  • Neil Sardesai

The update will probably cost 5-10$. Greedy-as-ever EA…

  • Fahad AlMaamari

the game is awesome, but I hate the IAP for everything in the game. I don’t mine buying the gold coins by the money in App store but why I can’t spend the coins in upgrading/unlocking the plants !

  • Huntz

Pissed I can’t play it on my 3GS due to no front-facing camera…

  • Great game to spend some time on 🙂
