Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook believes that “over the arc of time” China is a huge opportunity for his pathbreaking company. But time looks to be on the side of rival Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, which has been around far longer and penetrated much deeper into the world’s most populous country.

Some great insights in this article where the authors break down how Samsung is outdoing Apple in China. In shorts, it all comes down to the different strategy Samsung adopted in China: multiple devices with low to high prices, creating “perceived innovation”, a large retail presence, and maintaining good relationships with carriers.

    Not even close

  • bw00ds

Oh, geez, guys: The verb in the headline is “IS,” not “can” as in your wishful thinking. @@

Bring out an iPhone for $100 and they might just have a chance

    • erod434

Apple wouldn’t even imagine releasing a device that costs less than 400 lol.

      • n0ahcruz3

They’ve released the ipad mini which cost $329. But still expensive compared to other tablets in this size category. Eg nexus 7, kindle fire. If you’re specifically talking about phones then i completely agree with you lol.

      • Saeed Ghattas

Yeah it’s more expensive than other tablets at that size, But it’s not an iPad!!!!

  • n0ahcruz3

Lol you cant beat samsung with their spam products. Galaxy X Y Z with a different price range and sizes. What does apple offer? Plastic iphone which will probably priced higher than any entry level device offered by any manufacturer today.

  • jocastro

haha i say wouldn’t doubt it

  • n0ahcruz3

“Perceived innovation”? Really? Basically, What samsung is doing is attacking the market. Giving consumers products that fits within their budget, which is brilliant.

    • If you had read the full article I linked to, you would have understood what I meant by “perceived innovation”

      • n0ahcruz3

Lol Fair enough, guys at BGR really influenced me haha

  • Cesar D

How i don’t care about that? I prefer iPhone

  • Taf Khan

Quality comes at a price. Apple upto now has only tried to attract the premium market. Allot of what Samsung is selling is cheap tat. Personally I think Apple should continue as they are. Mid to high end phones only. You don’t see Ferrari trying to out do the presence of Ford.

    • Kurt

But Samsung is doing very well being Ferrari and Ford. Why Not Apple?

      • Taf Khan

No prestige appeal when you are at both ends of the market. Why do you think Apple products hold value better than Samsung? Not everyone owns a Ferrari, and i reckon Ferrari would like to keep it that way.. .

    • n0ahcruz3

Based on your analogy, im gonna say samsung is like toyota with their mid teir device(toyota brand) high end(Lexus) entry level(toyota,Scion) & As for apple i would compare it to BMW.(mid to high end). Question which of the two automaker is the number 1 in the world when it comes to global shipments and sales?

      • Taf Khan

Does the total number of shipments really matter? Not so sure it does. Shipments in the mid to high end range, sure. That’s where apple rock.

    • FFF84

and do you know that know Ferrari is the Luxury car from Fiat.
so Ferrari is trying to out do the presence of Ford.
and apple can do the same.
