Tennessee man suing Apple for giving him easy access to porn

adult warning

Here’s a fun little story for your Saturday afternoon. It appears that a Tennessee lawyer is suing Apple over—get this—pornography. Chris Sevier has filed a lawsuit against the Cupertino claiming it’s at fault for selling devices that grant him unrestricted access to porn on the internet.

In his 50-page complaint, the Vanderbilt law school grad holds that if the iPad-maker is in deed “concerned with the welfare of our Nation’s children, and furthering pro-American values” it should sell all of its devices in ‘safe mode,’ with software presets to filter out pornographic content…

The Huffington Post points to the filing:

“Per the complaint, Sevier’s problem began after he tried to visit “Facebook.com,” but — accidentally, he says — typed “F**kbook.com,” an adult site that “appealed to his biological sensibilities as a male and led to an unwanted addiction with adverse consequences.”

Sevier suggests that it is Apple’s responsibility to ship its products with software restrictions that must first be disabled before users are able to access adult content. That way, users would have to take steps to un-restrict porn on their iPhone, iPad or Mac, instead of the other way around.

Believe it or not, it actually gets weirder:

“UNFAIR COMPETITION AND INTERFERENCE OF THE MARITAL CONTRACT: The Plaintiff became totally out of synch in his romantic relationship with his wife, which was a consequence of his use of his Apple product. The Plaintiff began desiring, younger more beautiful girls featured in porn videos than his wife, who was no longer 21.”

I think from now on, whenever I mention how screwed up our legal system is, I’m going to point to this case as an example. Not only is the lawsuit itself ridiculous, but the fact it’s against Apple—the company that literally said “if you want porn, get an Android”—makes it even more absurd.

It’s no surprise that one, Apple has not yet responded to the complaint, and two, Sevier’s license to practice law was placed on “disability inactive status” in December of 2011. The means he’s currently not allowed to practice law until the state of Tennessee rules that he is fit to work again.

    What a lawsuit!

  • William Melendez

Thoughts ? That guy is pathetic . SMFH

  • Khis Ariasaif

He should sue God for giving him free will. Lol

    • Dominik Odobašić

It’s just that free will isn’t god given. ;)

      • Falk M.

        Actually, free will doesn’t exist.
Before you mock me, look up determinism.
Feel free to disagree on that base.

      • John Sklikas

Oh don’t start this Psychology debate please, I’ve been doing the free will vs. determinism the whole year. Like determinists have arguments, those that support the free will have arguments too and for the sake of it I will mention 2. 1) Neuroplasticity, a person is born with a certain brain but through his life and the experiences he chooses to live, he changes his brain and changes the ways he functions socially. (This is proved to exist, if you want a study I will send you 1 study) 2) Schema Theory, a person forms new schemas daily about his everyday experience which is unique and functions accordingly. All 2 of the above end up being changes that get deterministic, but they begin from your free will. To say it shortly there is no free will without determinism but there is also no determinism without free will, otherwise all of us would be complete replicas…

      • Falk M.

Determinism doesn’t mean that people are born different.
Guess what, by deterministic concept, they have to be born different. And there are plenty of theoretically calculable factors that decide what your “starting point” is.

        Psychology debate?
It’s far more than that. Determinism is everything from physics, chemistry, neurology, etc etc…

I didn’t want to start a debate, just threw in my 2 cents and what I deem true.
That’s my opinion, but it’s the only one I have. *smirks*

  • ap3604

I’m sure Vanderbilt Law School is very proud of its graduate!

  • Victor

    I don’t want to live on this planet anymore… ( meme )

    • Ian Jackson

My thoughts exactly. This guy’s an idiot…

    • Guest

Still alive? Careful what you wish for…

      • Falk M.

        *cough*
That’s a quote from the TV show Futurama, where people live on various planets and interplanetary travel is common.

  • Jarryd Richards

This guy is in his late 30’s and expects people to believe that he had never seen porn before, and after seeing it on an Apple device, he became an addict and should receive damages. Not hard to see why he’s not allowed to practice law.

    • Guest

I haven’t and never want to…probably ’cause I’m not from an American background; arrogant Americans would do anything to justify adultery related stuff as entertainment.

      • Jarryd Richards

        Surprise, surprise, I’m not American.

      • Décio Costa Arruda

I’m European myself but I live in America and “‘them niggas are horny like a motherfucker”
But in all seriousness I seriously, specially this article, think America’s got a problem with pornography

      • Jack

Right, because porn is an American “Invention” The Roman Emperors (Who were European) were heavily invested in Orgies.

Besides that, I sincerely hope you mean’t “Nigga” as in ignorant person. Otherwise, you are not only European, you are also a Racist.

America is partially a reflection of European and Native American culture because both were significant parts of American history and society (And still are) English: Primary example for North America – British Decent.

So it doesn’t really matter where you’re from, anyone can have a porn addiction, because it’s a human problem, not just an ethnic one. People from around the world might have these addictions and others: Drugs may be more addictive in some places than even America because in other places those drugs may be Legal so it isn’t always considered an “addiction”

My advice: I’m a patriotic American, and I am not amused when I meet or read about Prejudice Foreigners or Natives.

  • felixtaf

    God Bless America!

  • felixtaf

There is no search suggestions in safari… so it was his mistake that he typed wrong. The same mistake can happen in a pc or anyother device. Also, he cant even blame Google. Coz Google wont give porn suggestions. Just want to make some quick money using loopholes in law. People are ridiculous…

    • https://twitter.com/MrElectrifyer MrElectrifyer

Exactly. Besides, how did he typo a “u” and a “k” in place of an “a” and an “e”, respectively, when those are all the way on the other side of the keyboard? He most likely was conscious of what he was typing…

  • Hermès Vainstar Chu

This ain’t got nothing to do with apple

  • marco1993

Maybe he will sue the telco for giving him the friggin data to watch porn LOL

  • Damian W

First of, the porn sites should be responsible for being more restricted, therefore the guy should sue the porn sites, not the apple. He makes ridiculous arguments.

It would be like saying for example. I saw a prostitute standing on the corner so I drove up to her to have fun with her. Now I am addicted of doing this everyday so I am gonna sue the government for making the roads we drive cars on easily accessible for prostitutes. if the government made the roads more restricted and blocked maybe we would not see so many prostitutes.

BTW, I agree the devices could or should come with preset restrictions, which could be disables later on.

    • Liam Mulcahy

      good example

  • n0ahcruz3

Damn whats happening to common sense there in the US?

  • Ricky

In ios7 beta3 actually in accesibility theres an option for this…

    • Tardroid

      O RLY?

    • dpacemaker

It’s in restrictions not accessibility. I assume you don’t actually have and use the beta like some of us.

      • Ricky

I got mixed up with the two hahaha. If i dont use it how do i know… No blog has made the review of it…

  • MDM

    Tim Cook Loves P0rn :P

    • Guest

      Like the typical American…

      • Pitchy

Pretty sure people of every country love porn. When I was in the navy, I did several south east Asia / middle east tours. Every country I visited had porn with maybe the exception of Saudi Arabia which I did not feel safe to venture out into.

    • MDM

Why So Many Thumbs Down !!!! ….

  • Ian Jackson

Oh the things people do for money…

  • dadditude

I don’t want to live on this planet anymore. The stupid hurts too much.

  • Guest

If you look on the keyboard you’ll see that the “a” and “u” are no wear near each other, so clicking it accidentally wouldn’t be easy. Same goes for the “e” and “k” key. So while trying to type “Facebook” it would be hard to accidentally type in u instead of a, and k instead of e. sorry that this isn’t too clear I’m not sure how to word these

    • Dontwannaknow

I see what u mean. So that guy is just rediculous. If he wanted to access Facebook, why didn’t he use native ios app? Facebook is easier to access. Perhaps he just did on on purpose expecting to get a few bucks from Apple.

  • Akshay Waitforit Doiphode

pro american values? lol so naught america was a lie

  • T S P K Sainath

what crap is this tell him to suicide !

  • truedat

Really?.. We should be able to freely do whatever we please on our devices. It’s not Apple’s or anyone else’s fault but his own that he’s not attracted to his wife anymore and he’s addicted to porn. It’s stupid people like that, that are going to get the Internet regulated. It’s the only completely free means of communication and it should stay that way. Viva la freedom!!

  • Taf Khan

Lets hope the judge is a middle aged female of similar age to his wife… He got no chance, when he loses he should have to pay Appkes legal bill.

  • Tamahome5555

His fault for not looking at website he’s typing. Dumbass

  • https://twitter.com/MrElectrifyer MrElectrifyer

Seriously, no more common sense down there in the U.S.? Such ignoramus arguments coming from a graduate Lawyer…however, do agree that there should be anti-porn built into Safari that is enabled by default.

  • Ernie Marin

He probably realized almost 99% of the profiles in the site are fake and got pissed off and now it’s blaming it on Apple.

  • rawnchi

    What a “handful”! ;-)

Now I understand the adage, “An Apple a day will the doctor very happy!”

  • Ernie Marin

wait, why the heck is he even using safari to go to Facebook, isn’t there a FB app already, if this case even makes it to just one judge’s desk then America’s justice system is truly dead.

  • darkdude1

So he wants to block access to pornography? And how does one actually achieve that on the Internet? Blocking/filtering just does not work, it never will do – How would you even begin to block every single pornographic instance on services which are user generated anyway? It’s impossible to filter the Internet, this guy is a moron.

  • Mick

He’s a law student that graduated and still doesn’t know how to spell the word ‘face’. Sue Vanderbilt Law School?

  • pnh

Next he will sue his wife’s parents for making her ugly.

  • Pankaj Rana

Somebody punch him, n tell him that “kill yourself” world will be a better place if u would not exist anymore!!

  • Gustaf

Then he might aswell sue all big computer and phone companys for giving him access to porn

  • Patrick

Americans, suing companies for pointless shit just to become rich, i bet he was going on it everyday until he thought he can become rich off it, what a cunt

  • chris125

Hahah oh man and this is why our society is so screwed up.

  • bigzjoseph

    that ungrateful bastard.

  • Tom Sullivan

    iMasturbate Ha!

  • iOops

    iPhones are fap-tastic.

  • Pitchy

Then he should next sue the church since they are a direct conduit to god and god designed that vessel of evil known as the vagina and the desire for sex. If god didn’t want us to watch porn, he would make it a disgusting act that when climax is reached it’s painful and horrible experience that you would only do when necessary to procreate.

  • Jack

This man, is just another case of a person who doesn’t like to take responsibility for their irresponsible actions. He’s like a child with an imaginary friend: If he breaks something, he would just as soon blame the “Friend” of his before actually admitting to the act itself.

The Sad thing is, this case reminds me way too much of that one McDonald’s case where a lady sued because she was “Too overweight to sit in one of the booth seats”

Seriously, people will blame any company/person/thing before taking responsibility sometimes… Some are worst than children OR cartoon characters.

  • Sukhjeet

how can I sue Apple or phone network

  • King Vivic

If you approach this issue in a short minded manner, you will never understand what this man is trying to bring to attention.

Why is porn open source? why can anyone at anytime type in something: wether by mistake or intention, and have access to a whole mirage of porn- The man is trying to focus on the moral aspect of how we handle society.

People of all ages use devices that have access to the internet. There is too much open room for mistakes and misuse of the internet NOT to have a regulatory system – COMMON SENSE would quickly help you realize that conclusion.

It would be a huge mistake not to consider the effects an open source porn system has on civilization as a whole. Could anyone argue that the world will be a worse place if Microsoft and Apple implemented software presets?

It’s impossible to say it could!
