‘Cybernetic’ brings new options to banner notifications

By , Jun 9, 2013

Cybernetic featured

Cybernetic is a recently released jailbreak tweak that allows you to alter the way banner notifications work. For instance, if you tap on a banner, you can make the banner dismiss instead of opening the app associated with the notification.

If you’re looking to change some of the options when it comes to banner notifications, then look no further than Cybernetic. Check inside for our hands-on video walkthrough.

If you’d like to swipe down — called pan in Cybernetic’s settings — in order to open the associated app, then you can do so by enabling the ‘Pan to launch App’ setting in the tweak’s preferences. Cybernetic also allows you to enable a ‘No more banners’ option to completely get rid of all notification banners.

Cybernetic preferences

Cybernetic works pretty much exactly as advertised, and can be had free of charge via Cydia’s ModMyi repo. If you decide to take this tweak for a test spin, then by all means do so, and don’t forget to share your experience in the comment section below.

    I probably won’t get it

    • Noeliel

Some like it – and some don’t :D
It depends on how you use your iPhone.

      • Tyler

… The sky is also blue.

      • Noeliel

        You’re right.
It’s just like there are some (like me) that just do not like the way Banner behavior is implemented in iOS – most likely those who enjoy pocket gaming or use their phone a lot in many different situations – so I just wanted to create something that makes it easier and more personal (next update, as it comes with much more features / options) to deal with Notifications.

Oh you’re the dev, my bad. I thought you were just some random person being snippy or somethin ha. I did come really close to getting this for what it’s worth. I’ll check back for the updates :)

      • Noeliel

Guess I wouldn’t be the first one :D
        Anyways, cool =)
To be honest, I was surprised when I saw the community’s reaction after having released the beta / first version of Cybernetic…
Didn’t expect such an echo, since this is my first tweak I made public, so I’m most likely unknown ;D

      • tim

keep up the good work pal. im looking forward to see what else you can come up with!

      • Noeliel

        Thanks man! =)
Version 1.1 was just released ~30 minutes ago. So for everyone who’s interested: Go check it out! ;D

      • Noeliel

Coming soon: Version 1.2 featuring a slightly reordered preference pane as well as a third Gesture (Double Tap Banner) =)

  • weztimonial

Using it. But needs some getting used to.

    • Jeff

      It’s….different.

      • weztimonial

        yeap it is.

      • Noeliel

        Meant to be :D
Update coming soon, including many new features, bugfixes and improved functionality ;)
The full version will be around 0.99$ as I spent lots of hours and put much effort into this, but it’s definitely worth a try =)
I got lots of feedback after releasing this first version, and looking at the 1.1 that’s going to be available soon, i really think that those who like the first version will fall in love with the next update ;D
        Interested?
Just to list two new features:
        - Activator-like Gesture -> Action assignments
        - Reading out your Notifications
        Stay tuned! ~Noeliel

      • weztimonial

        Can’t wait!

      • Noeliel

        ;)

  • Gus Me

I’ve been using it for a full day now and it’s a great tweak. It will take another day to get used to doing the “opposite” but I like it.

    • Jeff

Do you think you’ll stick to using it?

      • weztimonial

        Yes.

      • Noeliel

        Nice to hear that =)

      • Gus Me

3 days later, but yes still using it, and already used to it for the most part. I think I’ve used the old method maybe once in the last 2 days. It also makes hitting the notification by mistake, nearly impossible.

  • Malan Raja

Using it. Will stick to it. Cheers for this!

  • Ricky

Just pull down a bit and it will dismiss

  • jlb1705

Solid tweak – almost exactly what I’ve been looking for. I just wanted an easier way to dismiss banners. I never want to open the app right away for the things I get notifications for, so I set it to “tap to dismiss”, disable all other options in the tweak, and I’m all set. The only thing I’d want to see added would be options to mark things as read when I dismiss them, like emails, sms or just getting a sports score to not show up in my NC if I dismissed it as a banner.

  • mkOS

It’s a great idea. The only thing I would add is the option to assign an Activator function to Dismiss and other to Open.

  • Sandeep Roy

Simple & elegant. Will stay with it.

  • kraigeriginal

And just like that it’s no longer free :(

    • Noeliel

And also it’s no longer beta – and it isn’t buggy anymore :D
The new features and improved functionality are definitely worth 0.99$

      ~Noeliel

  • Gus Me

It’s been updated and so has the price on it…
If the developer is still around, what are the differences between the original release and the update?

    • Noeliel

The free version was just beta / preview with bugs and all that good stuff.
The paid version has many new features, bugfixes and improved functionality.

      • Gus Me

I “broke down” and purchased it. Hoping you have more up your sleeve, nice tweak, thanks!

      • Noeliel

        Thanks for your support =)
My work on version 1.2 has already been finished several days ago, the only reason why I didn’t release it already is because I’m waiting for a preview that a more or less famous YouTuber is working on :D But seems like I’ll have to publish soon anyways ;D
Version 1.2 features a third Gesture (double tap Banner) as well as a slightly restructured preference panel =)
