Folks who enjoy customizing their iOS devices, but hate overweight theming apps like WinterBoard, might want to check out Athena. The new jailbreak tweak, developed by SuperDev, allows you to completely change the look of your Home screen icons.

Want dark icons? No problem. Want pink icons? No problem. Athena has a wide array of settings that enable you to change nearly everything about the color attributes of your app icons, providing you with seemingly endless customization options…

The tweak itself is very straightforward. Once installed, you can find its list of options in your Settings app. And as you can imagine, there’s a lot of them. In the main menu, you’ll see toggles for DoNotDisturb, Color Scheme, Intensity, Blend Mode and Alpha.

Each item can be toggled on/off, and set on a per app basis or for all apps. Changing the color scheme will change the icon’s color, changing the intensity will change how much that color shows, Blend Mode will change its lighting, and Alpha, its opacity.

I have to say, I’m really impressed by this tweak. There are a ton of options to play with here, and everything I’ve tested has worked without issue. And best of all, it doesn’t have that ‘bloated’ WinterBoard feeling—sometimes I forget that it’s installed.

If you’re interested in checking out Athena for yourself, you can find it in Cydia, in the BigBoss repo, for $0.99.

So, what do you think of Athena?

  • Looks cool!

  • Judging from your screenshot I can’t see why I’d want to make my icons look completely transparent but maybe there’s someone out there that does…

  • Samsung Sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Completely irrelevant to this article but now that you mention it, yes I’m pretty sure Samsung does suck…

    • Apple sucks.

      • Good bye Squidward

      • dpacemaker

I like how your icon is of sad faced Squidward, of course he is always sad and gloomy about the world. Maybe if he had an iPhone he would be different.

      • jilex

what if he already has an iPhone?

  • Better than Springtomize 2?

  • Be sure to adjust the intensity or it’ll have no effect

  • i wish there was a guide bec. I’ve got no idea WTH I’m doing. And their built in respring takes too loooooooong

  • AppleBits

Has potential…but after messing with it the last hour, it really needs to have some method of instantly seeing the change effect instead of respringing every time a change is done. Preview??
Also….I started out just tweaking Cydia icon. Then moved to Default. Well, default doesn’t touch the apps you changed individually. While I understand why…there very much needs to be some sort of reset or an option within each setting to clear each individual app.
If I set the luminosity or saturation whatever at say .50, then decide I don’t want it on that app at all, I have no way to remove it. Least I can go is .10.
    Has fun potential tho.

  • Aicon did this, faster too. Not sure if its ios 6 compatible though sadly.

  • Florian Lerch

Can’t Springtomize 2 do the same?

  • Dylfo

I tried this tweak and I wanted to do one thing, make my icons 1/2 transparent and I spent almost 20 minutes trying to figure it out.. This tweak is too confusing. Is there any other way to get a half transparent look for my icons?
