I don’t really make phone calls anymore these days. But when I do, they almost always originate from the Messages app. You know the drill—you tap the Status bar to scroll to the top of the conversation, and hit the ‘Call’ button.

While most folks, including myself, don’t find this two-step process at all troublesome, the jailbreak community seems to always be asking the question “how can I do this quicker?” And the answer to that question today, is RaiseToCall…

RaiseToCall is a new jailbreak tweak by developer Kaushal Trivedi that allows you to instantly make calls from inside the Messages app. As the name suggests, all you have to do is raise your phone to call the contact you are messaging.

The tweak itself is nearly invisible—there’s no Springboard icon or settings. Once it’s installed, simply open up your Messages app to an active conversation thread, and hold your phone up to your ear. It will then dial the contact’s number.

After putting it through the paces, I can say the package works as advertised. And I really liked the fact that it supports BiteSMS, and that the tweak deactivates when you’re handset is in landscape mode to avoid making accidental phone calls.

Is RaiseToCall for everyone? No. I think it’s a handy little no-nonsense tweak that some folks might really appreciate. Unfortunately, I also think Trivedi priced it kind of high at $1.99. But if you want to check it out, it’s in Cydia’s BigBoss repo.

What do you think about RaiseToCall?

  • you don’t need to double tap the status bar to scroll to the top of the conversation, just one tap will do

it is best ..thank youKaushal Trived for this tweak u have to make more tweaks like this and all feature of S4 have to come in cydia for iphone

  • Dennis Henriquez

    Samsung S3 feature copied! =P

    • Fraz

Do you really want to go into what Samsung copied from the iPhone?

    • max

You guys are priceless. If android or Samsung has these features on their os or devices for free, its called gimmicky but, if and when its on ios either through apple or cydia it’s…u get my point.
And might I add that we also pay for some of these gimmicky features.

    • Yea this is done by a 3rd party developer. If you didnt know.

  • Overpriced. Should actually be free, doesn’t require much code. At least for the normal Messages App.

It should start calling a few seconds after holding to ear, but it does so even after covering the sensor for 2 secs – hence making unwanted calls. The author said it was fixed, but it wasn’t. It was a nice tweak, but I uninstalled it 🙁

  • Well most of the jailbreak community uses bitesms and on the quick reply there is a call button. Which is just as fast as just raising it to your ear.

  • Will this affect the battery?

Haha $1,99! What we DO need is more Whatsapp tweaks. Isn’t it a good idea for a new post? Especially with stuff that works, because most of them that I’ve tried don’t.

  • Removed!,
After a couple times making unwanted phone calls bc the message app was open, the phone was on the table and I passed my hand over the sensor.

The tweak should be disable when detect the phone is horizontal….my opinion..

I think it is a great concept but with bad finish. Accidental calls are bound to happen because of this tweak. Sometimes when I text I place my phone upside down on a table or bed for few seconds and phone dials the number. On top of this put your hand on top of the screen or place the phone in your pocket and same story again

  • A good fix would be to never allow calls if the phones gyroscope returns any data that says if the phone is facing down, or any direction but up right as if a person was standing and holding it to their ear. May make it a bit confusing at first, but the only way I’d do it.

    • Just saw another comment. If the phone is in a horizontal or flat to ground position would be very good to add as well!

  • Not nearly as accurate as Siri’s “Raise To Speak” feature. Very disappointed. Too many unwanted outgoing calls—without even a notice! RaiseToCall definitely needs to be updated without a doubt. At least include a vibration feature to alert the user whenever an outgoing call is being made!
