Make calls instantly from the Messages app with RaiseToCall

I don’t really make phone calls anymore these days. But when I do, they almost always originate from the Messages app. You know the drill—you tap the Status bar to scroll to the top of the conversation, and hit the ‘Call’ button.

While most folks, including myself, don’t find this two-step process at all troublesome, the jailbreak community seems to always be asking the question “how can I do this quicker?” And the answer to that question today, is RaiseToCall…

RaiseToCall is a new jailbreak tweak by developer Kaushal Trivedi that allows you to instantly make calls from inside the Messages app. As the name suggests, all you have to do is raise your phone to call the contact you are messaging.

The tweak itself is nearly invisible—there’s no Springboard icon or settings. Once it’s installed, simply open up your Messages app to an active conversation thread, and hold your phone up to your ear. It will then dial the contact’s number.

After putting it through the paces, I can say the package works as advertised. And I really liked the fact that it supports BiteSMS, and that the tweak deactivates when you’re handset is in landscape mode to avoid making accidental phone calls.

Is RaiseToCall for everyone? No. I think it’s a handy little no-nonsense tweak that some folks might really appreciate. Unfortunately, I also think Trivedi priced it kind of high at $1.99. But if you want to check it out, it’s in Cydia’s BigBoss repo.
