Take a look inside as we show you how to jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 with evasi0n 1.4. This tutorial is for the Mac, but the same principal applies across all computing platforms.

How to jailbreak iOS 6.1.2

Notes: As always, before we get started, there are a few things to keep in mind here. First, read our jailbreak preparation post. It covers a few vital ideas that should make your life easier when it comes to managing and maintaining your jailbreak.

Be sure that your device’s passcode lock is disabled. The passcode lock can interfere with the jailbreak process. Also, make sure that when you upgraded to iOS 6.1.2, it was done, not via an OTA update, but via an iTunes update. While it’s possible that it will work, OTA updates have caused known problems in the past with regard to jailbreaks, it’s best to just play it safe. Okay, let’s get started!

Step 1: Head over to our download page, and download evasi0n 1.4. The downloads are available for Mac, Windows, or Linux.

Step 2: Save the evasi0n app to your desktop, and run it.

Step 3: Connect your iOS device to evasi0n, and ensure that evasi0n detects your device. Evasi0n should work with any iOS 6 firmware from iOS 6.0 to iOS 6.1.2. In this case, you will be using iOS 6.1.2.

Step 4: Click the jailbreak button, and the jailbreak process will begin. Be patient, as this takes a while. You will notice your device reboot several times throughout the entire process. The main thing is just to be patient.

Step 5: Eventually, evasi0n will ask you to unlock your device, and tap the Jailbreak icon on your Home screen once. Follow these instructions, ensuring that you tap the icon only one time, and then leave the device alone and let it continue.

Step 6: The evasi0n app will complete its course, and you will be able to click the Exit button. The iOS device, however, still needs to finish up a few additional steps, so again, be patient and don’t touch your device.

Step 7: Eventually, the jailbreak will finish, and you can unlock your iOS device, and open the Cydia app on your Home screen. Cydia will need to initialize, which takes about 1 to 2 minutes. After the initialization is complete, the device will respring again.

Step 8: Reopen Cydia, select Hacker, and begin enjoying your newly jailbroken iOS device running iOS 6.1.2.

Remember, this is an untethered jailbreak, so you can feel free to reboot your device at will. Also, remember to take the necesarry steps to protect your jailbreak. you can do so by reading our post that describes how to protect device.

Be sure to let me know what you think in the comment section below if you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding this latest update to evasi0n.

      Haha ikr.

  • Is there a way to save my cydia apps so I don’t have to reinstall everything all over again when I update?

    • Yes, you can use PkgBackup or OpenBackup, but it’s recommended to install the tweaks one by one, it will assure that no more than necessary is installed in your device.

      • PkgBackup crashes and OpenBackup doesn’t work very well (Restoring is like shit)… So another one?

      • Milad Khahil

pkgbackup just been updated and work very good, i just used it

      • Jeff please make a video to address this. What do you do when you have to wipe your iDevice? What back up options do you use?

      • DomPerignon1

Don’t you know how to read? Use PkgBackup,or OpenBackup or Xbackup. There isn’t one that is better than the other; all of these apps have flaws but at the same time all of them do a good job backing up your Cydia apps/ tweaks. I personally prefer PkgBackup.

      • I myself use aptbackup and never have any issues.

    • Adrian12369

If you don’t use one of the backup options you could use AppInfo to email yourself a list of all your sources and packages.

    • iLoveJB

      I use xbackup

    • I had no problems restoring with OpenBackup. xBackup is better if you own it but if not, OB is free!

    • Xbackup, definitely.

  • You guys are so fast with the videos, do you even sleep? πŸ™‚

  • Did we miss an update for 6.1.1 on all the products except the iPhone 4S?

    • ElementalBliss

The 6.1.1 was 4S only to address some connectivity issues.

      • I was like noooo………… when I saw 6.1.2 available for update and thought I missed saving 6.1.1 blobs. Thanks πŸ˜€

      • ElementalBliss

        Any time!

  • How to do this if my phone relies on sam activation tickets?

  • ElementalBliss

If I’m not encountering any issues with Exchange (ie, I don’t use it), should I upgrade and rejailbreak? iPhone 5 here; battery lasts pretty good while.

    • There’s no need to. Just download 6.1.2 and use redsn0w to save your 6.1.2 SHSH blobs and upload them to Cydia.

      • ElementalBliss

        Thanks you.

      • If you need help on how to save 6.1.2 shsh blobs, let me know. πŸ˜€

      • marc

i dont get that …how do you save shsh blobs that you haven’t installed into your device … i had the same question as (elementalBliss) im on 6.1 iph5 an dont know if i should update or not …would it improve my battery life if i did.

      • Step 1: Download the firmware you want to save SHSH blobs for and put it on desktop.

Step 2: Download the latest version of Redsn0w.

Step 3: Plug in your device.

Step 4: Run Redsn0w and click Extras.

Step 5: Click SHSH blobs button.

        Step 6: Click New button.

Step 7: Locate your firmware you downloaded in step 1 on desktop.

        Step 8: Click Open.

Step 9: Upload to Cydia when prompted to do so.

This is how I managed to save 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1 and 6.1.2 for my iPhone 5 while I was on previous versions of each firmware.

      • marc

You learn somthing new every day … I didn’t know you could do that … If i followed these steps could i just save shsh blob to my computer (( Thank you for your reply )).

      • Redsn0w does save a copy to your computer.

For PC it’s located at: C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingredsn0wshsh

and for Mac, I cant check that at the moment, my MBPro is bootcamped to win7. ):

      • Just followed your steps and uploaded SHSH blob to Cydia. Thanks!

      • Or you could just use TinyUmbrella, with the 1-click “Save SHSH” button, regardless of whether or not you have downloaded a firmware

      • Tiny Umbrella doesn’t save 6.1.2 SHSH blobs for me.

      • ElementalBliss

I’m not going to until the next OS adds features; @disqus_Xf0g6ntcY4:disqus – if you’re jailbroken, just open Cydia – it already has my 6.1 and 6.1.2 blobs saved (I did nothing different).

      • Odd… I thought Cydia only saved the SHSH blobs for the current version of iOS you’re running.

      • marc

        So did i.

      • Nope… It saves all available versions. All of my devices are still on 6.1, but Cydia reports it has blobs for 6.1.2 for all of them

      • marac_

try to save your blobs with iFaith

      • Hi, you seem to know alot about the SHSH’s! So, question for you if you don’t mind πŸ™‚ Cydia has got my blobs for 6.1 and 6.1.2, im running 6.1, there’s no point me upgrading is there? I don’t use exchange… And because cydia has my blobs, could i still downgrade once apple stops signing? Does cydia allow that? Or should i still use redsn0w? Thanks πŸ™‚

      • There’s not point of you upgrading if you don’t use exchange. If Cydia has your SHSH blobs for 6.1 and 6.1.2 you’re fine. If and when a downgrade method is released, you’ll be able to downgrade in the future using your saved SHSH blobs.

      • marc

your right it does have shsh blob 6.1 + 6.1.2 But for now i think ill do the same as you (( Thank you for you reply )).

      • Can I ask you how you save 6.1.2 SHSH blobs using redsn0w?

  • waleed LA

How is the Battery usage in 6.1.2? 6.1.1 used to eat more of my battery so i switched back to 6.1.

    • If I may ask, how did you downgrade 6.1.1 to 6.1, since 6.1.1 is iPhone 4S only?

      • waleed LA

6.1 window was still open when i tried to downgrade… lucky me

      • I’ve had no issues with iOS 6.1.1. My battery consumption has been only affected by what tweaks I have installed.

      • But it shouldn’t matter… As far as I know, there’s no exploit capable of downgrading an iOS 6 based A5.. Mind enlightening me as to how you did it?

      • waleed LA

you cant now as the signing window is closed now…i downgraded to 6.1 right after the same day 6.1.1 was released for 4s

      • Oh, I understand now.. You downgraded while Apple was signing both firmwares, so iTunes let you do it.. I see

      • Eddie471

Try with tinyumbrella and firmware….its only possible if u have shsh blobs for it….

  • Awkwardox

How is the battery life for those who have already updated?

  • Mazan

How nice is it that Apple hasn’t had time to patch Evasi0n JB? Perhaps it is no easy task for the IOS experts at Apple.

  • anyone tryed to unlock with ultrasn0w this build? …are 1.59.00 baseband bug still here?

  • Hi can I update iPad 2 OTA to 6.1.2 from 6.1?
I didn’t jailbreak it before but I do have iOS 6.1 blobs saved!

    • pleasedodisturb

      Don’t update OTA. Use iTunes.

  • I was experiencing the power drain (as someone who has been jailbreaking for years, I know the difference between JB drainage and iOS drainage). The phone’s battery life does seem to be lasting longer. In addition, the JB and tweaks seem to run smoother. I’m very glad I updated and re-jailbroke.

  • ios 6.1.2 the best battey life.. my iphone 4s is battery save..
good job and great to evasi0n ツ

  • So… Does it fix the battery problem all together or only if u use exchange?

  • Gwanted

If not, there is nothing you can do.) so i think to my self who cares about SHSH, i only want my phone bugs fix’s so i try to restore it then i get a error saying 3194 can not restore PLZ HELP ME JEFF

  • I cannot update from my phone πŸ™

    • pleasedodisturb

You should never update OTA. Use iTunes.

  • ExRoot

I hate my phone. I have days invested in this thing. My jailbreak is absolute crap. Something is corrupt in my software and I can’t get rid of it. Restoring is a disaster!
Can’t get full restores for some reason but have many hidden apps so I have to install previous apps individually. Even without the JB the backup in the cloud s currupt. I have attempted to restore over 15 times. When it’s finally done the phone with 6.1.1 and Evasi0n 1.3 is a mess. Even with no tweaks. Constant crashing. Camera opens when it wants to. I just went to download an app from apples App Store and it will not appear. Says it’s there according to App Store but not on my phone. It got so ad that I spent 2 1/2 hours on the pone with apple after I totally restored it and had to walk through while apple tech was viewing my desktop. Of course I didn’t tell him the software may be currupt de to a previous JB.

I hate my phone now. Never know what it’s going to do. My only option is to send all my files data etc to clouds etc and totally start over with a fresh phone. I have learned that backing up in Apples iCloud is not sufficient. If there is any currupt files or issues it cements it to the backup and there s nothing you can do. I have to back-up the files in the apps individually. It will be a lot of work but that’s my only option. My iCloud back-up is no good.

What a mess! Excuse my typo’s but I can’t seem to go back and correct

    • marac_

one of the launch deamons, .plist files in your backup (and your phone restored from that backup) is corrupted. thats why mobile substrate has a safe mode, so you can delete it through cydia from your device. if you have springtomize2 or ifile you could delete it manually. ssh also helps. the best thing for you to do is to “set as new phone” after restoring (and re-jailbreak). that helped me when i was stuck on boot logo after instaling silly tweak on 5.0.1

  • i have a problem with weather app, nobody have aswell? i cant open widget or program for forecast. it happened today after jailbroke ios 6.1.2 on iphone 5. a week ago after jailbreaking ios 6.1 it didnt happen..

Is there any cydia patch for tethered devices on 6.1.2? Evasion patch in Cydia only shows support up to 6.1

    • Annoying, I know… Just re-jailbreak with Evasi0n 1.4

  • romrach

Hi, I am using Mac OS 10.8.2 and I have jailbroken my Iphone with evasion 1.1 and now I can not restore and upgrade for 6.1.2. It says “this device is not eligible with requested build”. Can anybody help? Thx.

    • If you already downloaded the firmware from somewhere like iDB, and you’re just pointing iTunes to it, you probably just downloaded the wrong one

      • romrach

I downloaded it directly through the ITunes is that wrong? Should I download it from IDB? Thx.

      • That’s weird that iTunes didn’t do it right.. Just download it from iDB, save it to somewhere you’ll remember, and I think it’s Control+Restore on OS X in iTunes, then select the file.. By the way, if it downloads as a .zip file, change the extension to .ipsw

      • romrach

will try and let you know. thx.

      • No problem

      • romrach

I did not worked it says failure 21 I am stuck in recovery can not get out if it

i have an ipod touch 4th gen on ios 5.1.1 then i want to get the evasion jailbreak. do i immediately update my 5.1.1 to 6.1.2? and then jailbreak using evasion?

    • zZwag

Yeah you can do that, but if you already jail broke your ipod, you’ll lose all tweaks and apps from cydia. Make sure to back them up!

  • Charlene Harrison

hello guys.. I have an iphone 4 IOS 6.1.1 it was just jailbreak it a month ago. The problem is i don’t see the carrier on the settings. I tried to insert my sim card but it says ” no service “. My co worker did the jailbreak but i haven’t notice the settings for the carrier i thought everything went well. He advise me to update my phone to i-tunes and use this evasi0n 1.4 to jailbreak. I don’t have much important documents on my phone to save. Question: is should i still have to update to IOS 6.1.2 to restore my phone back to normal, my concern is i want to see the “carrier” settings on my phone so that i can see if my sim card still work on this device. Then i will proceed to jailbreak then if there’s a chance i will proceed to unlock if ever this one available download for IOS 6.1.1 I hope someone can help me.. thanks very much..

    • 1: How’d you get 6.1.1 (an iPhone 4S-only firmware) on an iPhone 4? 2: Just back up and restore in iTunes, and you should be ok
